Get £80 cashback on Qatar Airways flights with American Express

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

The latest travel company to offer a cashback offer on American Express cards is Qatar Airways. The offer is £80 back on £800+ spend.

We have had numerous comments from people who have this offer so it seems to be fairly widespread.  You need to look on the ‘offers’ tab on the online statement page for every Amex card you have.

The offer is open to the first 8,000 people who ‘save’ the offer to their card. You must book by 27th March 2020 which gives you plenty of time to wait for a good promotion to come around.

The key restriction is that it is only valid on flights departing from the UK (Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Cardiff).  It is NOT valid on ex-EU bookings.

Don’t forget there are also strong Amex cashback offers running for Malaysia Airlines (details here) and Hilton (details here).

You need to book directly via the Qatar Airways website to trigger the cashback.

    OT. Revolut top up.

Shortly after Revolut recoded the mcc resulting in tip up charges being incurred they updated their FAQs to say that top ups MAY incite a cash transaction fee.

Has anyone got a screenshot of the original where they state that top ups are treated as purchases?

    • idrive says:

yes, I am sure many have screenshots of that. But some credit cards issuers refunded the fees as a goodwill gestures (at least VM did).

    • Grant says:

I have a screenshot of the original

Revolut didn’t shy away from the fact that they changed the FAQ when challenged though.

If you submit a formal complaint to Revolut you *may* find that they refund the cash advance fees – they did in my case.

  • AJ says:

OT – can one still pay brighton using curve linked VA/IHG cards without incurring cash-advance fees? A little out the loop here and just seen the new MCC updates with revolut

  • Aston100 says:

    OT: South Africa.
I understand British Airways has some kind of domestic presence.
Can you use Avios? Can you earn Avios & TPs?
Some flights say BA but operated by Kulula – are these in-scope?
Any links or guides to Avios in South Africa would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    • Harry T says:

You can use Avios on Comair.

    • Graham says:

With Comair you can both earn and burn Avios.

Kulula (owned by Comair) is a no frills spin off of Comair.

When I booked Comair flights, I did it through the BA website as I’m fairly sure that Kulala flights don’t show on there.

Worth bearing in mind if you need a hotel and/or car that you can book as a package on BA.com (but you don’t earn Avios on the overall spend – so flights only).

Flew Comair twice in South Africa recently. Superior to BA European short haul. Snack and drinks included, great crews – even got an upgrade at the gate and their business class seat is very comfortable and has significantly more legroom that BA in Europe. Almost like going back in time to BA of 20 years ago!

      • Graham says:

Forgot to add – you could earn Avios flying Kulala but this stopped quite recently.

    • Colin MacKinnon says:

      Just back from SA:

Used avios to book Comair (BA painted and BA uniformed but operated by Comair) from JNB to Vic Falls.

Paid cash for Port Elizabeth to JNB – 141 avios and 5 tier points in economy.

  • Matty says:

OT: I’ve booked a ticket with Aer Lingus, travelling economy, between LGW-DUB return. If I enter my BA Gold card number into the booking, which lounges can I use at Gatwick and Dublin? I think it is the south terminal at Gatwick.

  • Bob says:

OT: Any idea when next VS Miles Booster promo may run (3x/4x)?

Flying end of this month so would like to boost in next promo,

Also outside of promos, all flights can be boosted upto 6 months after departure date isn’t it?

    Thanks

  • BJ says:

OT: Anybody know if all hotel bookings made at ba.com are charged by BA and therefore qualifying for the amex BA offer?

  • Harry T says:

    OT:
Need to spend £6 at BA to trigger the spend £300, get 3000 Avios offer. Any ideas? Thought I could book an RFS to somewhere domestic and then cancel for 50p after the points transfer to BAEC.

    • BJ says:

No, if you do that the 3000 avios will come back off. Book one of their experiences, anything cheap. If your other spend was for flights then you could have added a FlyingStart donation to take you over £300.

      • Harry T says:

        @BJ
Thanks, I’ll cancel the flights (within 24 hours) and rebook with a donation to charity.

        • BJ says:

Don’t forget to check that the price hasn’t changed much before cancelling if these are revenue tickets.

          • Harry T says:

Same price and BA got me to add the exact amount needed to push me to £300! Very thoughtful of them ;). Thanks for the tip.

    • Lady London says:

Seat reservation on domestic? Prepay overweight luggage fee? Slightly increase the fare class of any paid fare? (You can’t do that online so you should not be charged phone fee, just the difference for a higher fare class which can be very small), book a domestic flight in Aus or US using avios and pay just the taxes, buy a BA gift voucher I have a vague idea they sell them. Pity it’s only £6… Not even sure a charity donation / carbon offset / avios purchase would actually be billed as British Airways…??

      • BJ says:

Charity donation is definitely billed to BA. Although not the best way of giving, I add a small donation to every reservation as I like Flying Start. If you cancel a reservation then they deduct the donation from the refund so that the charity doesn’t lose out.

  • Robert says:

The bigger question is, where’s the 787 going?
