All British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers extended by six months

Finally ….

With absolutely zero fanfare – in fact, with no notification of any sort – all British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers have been extended by six months.

Here is a screenshot from my account to prove it:

241 extension

Note that my vouchers were issued in October / November 2019 and so should have expired in October / November 2021.  This is off a British Airways Premium Plus American Express so the voucher has a 2-year validity.

Instead, they now expire in April / May 2022.

For clarity, neither of these vouchers has ever been used to book a flight.  They are not vouchers which have been returned to my account following an enforced flight cancellation.

Looking at reader feedback, it seems that all vouchers have been extended.  Even ones which only triggered in the last 48 hours are showing a 30-month validity on Premium Plus cards.  What we won’t know for a few days is whether vouchers triggered AFTER today come through with 24 months or 30 months.

Hopefully you will see the same when you go into your British Airways Executive Club account.

    Yay!

  • Ian says:

Just looked and the validity of mine has not been extended, possibly because I’ve only just got it and it’s valid until 2022.

    • meta says:

Look closely. It’s only for six months. I got one in late February and it was extended by 6 months to late August 2022.

      • Ian says:

Thanks, I’ve looked again and it’s still stubbornly showing Feb 2022. Maybe it’s because there was a bit of confusion when I first got the voucher: I upgraded my Amex card from free to Premium and it immediately triggered the voucher (I can just about spend £10k a year but never £20k). However, BA mistakenly gave me a 1 year voucher and it took a call to Amex to liaise to extend it with BA, who perhaps take the view that having “extended” it once they’re not going to do so again.

  • The Original David says:

Any news on whether Lloyds upgrade vouchers will get the same treatment? In another triumph of customer service idiocy, the new Avios website no longer displays the vouchers so we must all pester the poor phone agents instead…

    • Chris L says:

Also, I have some flights booked for August with a Lloyds voucher. I believe that if I can the flights then I forfeit the voucher

  • TGLoyalty says:

Some common sense prevails wonder how many calls they had about that

  • Harry T says:

Yeah, mine has been extended from October 2021 until April 2022.

  • Anna says:

My refunded voucher has the extension until Feb 2022, now to see if the older voucher still waiting to be refunded gets it as well.

  • Peter Taysum says:

Mine issued Dec 2019 has been extended by six months. I’m BA Gold (don’t know if that makes a difference).

  • AJA says:

I hope that will apply to vouchers that are refunded if you cancel a flight. I am still waiting off cancelling my trip to Israel in July in the increasingly vain hope that I will still get to travel.

    • TokyoFan says:

Both my vouchers (the one that had been used to book a Seoul trip in May, recently cancelled, and my latest earnt) have been extended.

      • AJA says:

That’s good to hear! Thanks 🙂

      • Johnllew says:

any idea how the cancellation took to be processed. I cancelled on-line last week as per the advice on here using google chrome but am still waiting for the refund of the cash and points. Dont want to waste their time calling but still would like the refund quickly.

        • TokyoFan says:

Hi – canx in-line 15/03 (Sunday) payment processed ok the 16/03 (Monday), refund appeared in amex acct latest Weds
