Amex Platinum adds a £100 Harrods credit – no minimum spend required

Some American Express Platinum cardholders woke up yesterday to a letter from the company giving them a £100 Harrods credit.

The deal runs from 2nd November to 30th November.

It’s not clear how widespread this offer is. (I am not at home at the moment to check if I received anything.)

Harrods American Express

According to a conversation that a reader had with the American Express call centre, the offer will be rolled out to all Platinum cardholders by 2nd November irrespective of whether they received the letter. Note that it does NOT currently show online.

This is not a 100% cast iron guarantee, but let’s see. Obviously anyone who opted out of receiving offers by post from Amex won’t be receiving the letter.

The deal is as good as it can get. It isn’t even a ‘spend £100, get £100 credit’ offer. It is refund of anything you spend, up to £100.

This means that you don’t need to scrabble around trying to get your purchase up to £100 if you find something on the website for £99.99! It also means that you won’t have any trouble buying items in store across different departments, paying at different tills.

For those who have the wrong idea about Harrods, it is NOT dedicated exclusively to luxury items. The book shop (now in the basement) is a standard book shop. The toy department is not especially high end. There is a pharmacist and lots of relatively standard stuff available. The higher up the building you go, the fewer tourists you see and the more it starts catering for locals.

If you don’t live near Harrods, you can order online. Do NOT order gift cards, however, as these are likely to be processed by a 3rd party supplier and will not trigger the cashback. Gift cards purchased in-store should be OK – it worked for me on their last Harrods in-store offer.

Remember that the offer does not go live until 2nd November so don’t head down there (or onto the website) this week.

You can use this offer at the new beauty place at Lakeside if that’s more convenient. Seems the outlet in Westfield isn’t included though.

    • KBuffett says:

I’ve not been at all impressed with the outlet at Westfield. I only visited twice briefly, awful.

  • Lady London says:

is it a sign of the times that no one has asked yet if the £100 Amex credit can be used at the Harrods shop in Heathrow Terminal 5?

    • KBuffett says:

It can’t. Knightsbridge or H Beauty, Intu Lakeside.

    • TGLoyalty says:

The usual yearly harrods offer can’t so imagine this will be the same.

      • Andrew says:

All airport shops around the world are run by a subsidiary company – Harrods International – so their participation in offers is different. There’s even a Harrods tea room in the airport in Doha now.

  • Justin says:

It’d be nice if this also applied to any AU’s holding a plat card! Although I’m sure that’d be too good to be true and will probably align itself with the corrected Waitrose Offer. However, it’s nice to see this offer since I was unable to obtain the £400 Marriott offer!

It’ll be nice if they also brought back the £9 per 1K MR offer too.

  • Alan says:

Really hope they’re going to roll this out to all Plat cardholders unlike the £400 off Marriott one!

  • Sam says:

Going to apply for a platinum now and try my luck here

  • Amar says:

I’ve got 2 Plat’s (not supplementary’s) both taken out around 2 weeks ago. How long do you reckon until the waitrose offer appears?

    • Stephen says:

I spoke to AMEX and said I was disappointed that the offers were not appearing automatically on my new card considering the cost. The initial agent said it was not possible to add it manually, but they passed me across to their “retentions” team who did without any hassle + credited the account with MR points

  • Sue says:

With the JL/Waitrose £100 Amex offer, would it be possible to purchase an Apple gift card from them to qualify for the offer? Sadly JL don’t stock the product I want to buy.

  • Cass says:

Just checked on this, looks like not everyone is going to get this offer, apparently only a select few, just had to register myself for post offers for future!
