Hilton has announced plans to open a resort in Crete in Spring 2021.

The Royal Senses Resort will open as part of Hilton’s upscale Curio Collection. Curio is Hilton’s equivalent of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, allowing upmarket independent hotels to market themselves via Hilton in return for respecting Hilton Honors benefits.

Hilton Curio Royal Senses Crete

The resort will be situated in northern Crete, close to Medlidoni Cave and Knossos Palace. It appears to be adjacent to the existing Royal Blue hotel, owned by the same family.

It promises 179 rooms with sea views, a private beach and marina, a spa, indoor and outdoor pools, a water park and tennis courts. It is a new build property and the existing independent website shows that many of the rooms come with private pools.

Bookings are currently being taken from the end of April via the current website, but it is not currently bookable via Hilton. This is the hilton.com website for Royal Senses.

Marriott has had substantial success with the two ‘Domes’ resorts in Crete, part of the Autograph Collection, so it will be interesting to see how Royal Senses competes.

Clicking on the links to the Qatar sale, the website indicates 30% as opposed to 50%.

    As at 5am.

  • AndyW says:

The beauty of Domes for me has always been the all suite nature, essentially the separate bedroom, as the lowest room type meaning you can book it on points. I have loads of Hilton so was hoping this might be something similar but seems not

  • MattB says:

Thanks guys, looking forward to the delivery!

  • Phillip says:

There are some very interesting propositions with good value when booking QR awards via Privilege club. The only frustrating thing is that they won’t show flight availability if you don’t have the mileage in the account which makes the process a bit more laborious – call, check, transfer, book!

    • meta says:

Anyone knows if the award availability on Qatar is the same as with oneworld partners?

    • Lady London says:

itamatrix would let you see them before you call

      • Phillip says:

Unfortunately I wouldn’t trust it. Unless I have confirmation from QR, I wouldn’t just rely on ITA or availability from other airlines and transfer miles from, say, Amex, only to find out that there’s a problem afterwards and be stuck with the miles!

        • Lady London says:

you’re only searching in ita to find the award seats. You cant book there -so there is no exposure whatsoever. You book with QR when you’ve found what you want.

There are a few other award searchers around, I think awardnexus is still there, for one that goes across alliances. The traditional ones dont suffer from the mysterious things that went wrong with data feed from the airlines that appear to have affected a couple of the more volume ones like seatspy.

Need a minimum 1000 Qmiles in the account to be able to purchase. Also, with the reduced miles required for a redemption – it makes it approx £1k plus taxes for rtn LON-DOH in business which is not bad!

    • Rob says:

Odd – that’s not in the T&Cs for buying miles. New accounts get a 2000 miles joining bonus anyway!

      • Matthew says:

        On the buy miles page…

        Terms & Conditions
        Price includes all applicable fees.
Purchased or transferred Qmiles are not refundable and will be posted within 72 hours.
Qmiles purchased or transferred do not count towards qualification for any increased or improved status in the Privilege Club programme.
All standard Privilege Club programme terms and conditions apply.
Qatar Airways reserves the right to change the pricing and terms of the Buy, Gift and Transfer option at any time.
Members can buy, gift or transfer up to 250,000 Qmiles per calendar year.
To buy or gift, prices start from US$35 and go as low as US$30 for every block of 1,000 Qmiles.
To transfer, prices start from US$15 and go as low as US$13 for every block of 1,000 Qmiles
The price depends on the number of Qmiles bought or purchased in a transaction.
Members must have earned a minimum of 1,000 Qmiles since enrolment to purchase additional Qmiles.
Members must have a minimum balance of 1,000 Qmiles to gift Qmiles.

Oh dear. This means it will become impossible to access the only possibly decent lounge in Gatwick Nth now as Qatar has contracted that lounge so they were turning away people despite the lounge being in empty even pre-Covid. Grrrr

    • Phillip says:

Maybe QR don’t expect much use with the new fares that exclude lounge access!

      • Lady London says:

Glad to see another offering by Hilton at a nice destination

  • dac says:

30% on Qmiles not 50% (banner 50%, text 30%, bit amateurish) and appears you need to have an account for a while before ordering (I set up an account today and couldn’t make a purchase)
