Use ‘Part Pay With Avios’ for additional savings

There are improved ‘Part Pay With Avios’ offers running throughout the sale period.

Our most recent review of ‘Part Pay With Avios’ is here and explains when ‘Part Pay With Avios’ makes sense.

The exact discount you will see varies by route, but it is always worth looking at the numbers. You can often get 1p per Avios for using a small quantity to pay for part of your booking.

‘Book with Confidence’ is still running

Remember that, under the British Airways ‘Book With Confidence’ guarantee, you can cancel your flight at any time, for any reason, for a British Airways ‘Future Travel Voucher’

This applies to bookings for travel by 30th April 2022.  The voucher must be used for a flight which is taken by 30th April 2023.

If your flight is cancelled by British Airways for any reason, you will receive a full cash refund. Based on my own experience from a cancellation last month, you will have your money within a couple of days of requesting it – there appear to be no delays in processing refunds at present.

British Airways Holidays has discounted holidays and city breaks

British Airways Holidays has also got in on the act with a selection of ‘flight and hotel’ and ‘flight and car’ packages.

The key thing to know about British Airways Holidays is that booking a flight and hotel, or flight and car hire, together can offer better value than booking each element separately.

These are the ‘lead in’ deals in the current sale.  There are lots of other options available which you can see if you look here.

British Airways flash sale

Other little known benefits of booking with British Airways Holidays ….

Just pay a deposit now

As usual with British Airways Holidays you don’t have to pay in full when booking. You can secure the deal with a small deposit and then pay the balance three weeks before departure. This is a substantial extra benefit compared to just booking flights.

As we covered last week, British Airways Holidays has recently reduced the minimum deposit required. You can pay as little as £60 per person.

You get a degree of cancellation flexibility

If you only pay the deposit now, you can walk away from your booking at any point up to three weeks before departure, which is when the final payment is due. You will lose your deposit but that is an excellent outcome compared to having to walk away from pre-paid non-refundable flights.

That said, as long as the ‘Book With Confidence’ guarantee is still in place, you would also have the option of making the final payment and then cancelling the entire holiday for a British Airways voucher valid until April 2023.

Bonus Avios

You earn a bonus 1 Avios per £1 you spend when booking with British Airways Holidays. You can find out more on ba.com here.

This bonus is on top of the Avios and tier points you will earn from the flights which are the same as you would get for booking a ‘flight only’, and from your credit card.

Remember that British Airways Holidays spending earns you double Avios (3 per £1) if you charge it to a British Airways Premium Plus American Express card.

A non-benefit – no OnBusiness points

The only downside of using British Airways Holidays is that the flights do not earn On Business points in BA’s small business loyalty scheme.

How to pay for your British Airways sale booking

To maximise your miles when paying, your best bet is the British Airways American Express Premium Plus card which earns double Avios (3 per £1) when you book at ba.com or via BA Holidays

You do not get double Avios if you book with the free British Airways American Express card

Another option is American Express Preferred Rewards Gold which offers double points – 2 per £1 – when you book flight tickets directly with an airline.

Conclusion

The British Airways Spring sale home page is here where you can find out more and get your head around what is available.

Remember that you need to book by midnight tomorrow, 22nd April.

  • Marko says:

I still got 2k sitting in FTVs and am looking for a way to extract this as cash. I was thinking to book flights that are likely to be cancelled, but it is difficult to find the right ones, especially now that the schedule is already reduced to a minimum.

    • Amy carpenter says:

Won’t hey just issue you another voucher?

      • Tim says:

Not if BA cancel; I was looking to do a similar thing but was delighted when BA moved my domestic leg of a US trip on to another flight (one hour difference but a different flight number) triggering a refund.

    • Graham D says:

Some of the early morning arrivals into LGW for the summer have recently been shifted to LHR and are still bookable – but won’t happen due to night flight restrictions at LHR – i.e. there are no scheduled arrivals between 11:05pm and 4:45am…so this flight won’t/can’t happen and will be binned at some point and you can claim a refund.

e.g. LCA to LHR arriving at 02:45 on 14 August is pricing up at €542 o/w in Business or €736 fully flex Business.

      • David Cliff says:

I have seen this too. Why on earth have BA not noticed this ??? Sometimes BA are so bad its just LOL funny !!! Malaga flights are hilarious right now, for later on this year ! Ridiculous LHR timings 🤣

  • Amy carpenter says:

In this article it posts a link to another article saying it states, ‘Good tier point run opportunities’. Following that link and there’s no such thing. Just return club world fares.

    • L Allen says:

Those routes are usually good for TP runs (I followed that link too) but I’m wondering with all the testing requirements just how feasible it is to do a TP run that’s a same day return or back to back. I think that aspect of TP runs is now just not going to work for a good while yet and you’ve got to consider at least a weekend away, which eats into the value (and point) of TP run.

    • Rhys says:

Not sure what happened there but looks like it’s going to the right article now!

  • Linda says:

I have had my cash and Avios returned after a cancelled flight at end of March but have not had the Companion voucher returned.
Does any one know how long this will take. I have re booked for next year same time but as I did not read Rob’s advice on a FTV they could not use the voucher for the new booking, so took a new one.

My old one has been extended twice now expiring in December so do not know if I would actually use it but it would be nice to have it back in case we do.

    • Anna says:

It should have come back at the same time as the avios so you probably need to chase it up.

  • ChrisC says:

BA hols does offer a good deal and the staff are great but they need to improve showing in their pricing if a resort fee is payable locally as at the moment it’s hidden and not very overt.

Priced up a trip for what I thought was a good price only then to see I’d have to pay $40 night for the resort / urban destination / because we can fee adding $ 240 / £ 170 to the cost

Surely these fees should be included in the displayed price even if later in the booking it’s divided down as “pay BA this and pay the hotel that for a total of ..”

    • Anna says:

It should indeed by included in the price, but I’ve never heard of a resort fee being charged on a package holiday!

  • Ryan Gill says:

Would a 10% flight voucher from having had a 1st class BA meal delivered work on either a holiday or “avios part pay”?

    • ChrisC says:

      No on. It’s.

That voucher is valid on flight only bookings.

    • Rich says:

Assuming from your comment you have one of these vouchers; are they valid on First bookings?

      • ChrisC says:

They are valid for any BA flight booking.

I don’t have one of these vouchers but that’s what both Robs article about the offer and comments on it and since have stated.

  • Richard says:

Has anyone else had difficulty booking a flight on the BA website? All i had yesterday was ” sorry, something went wrong” all day!

    • flyforfun says:

Have you tried a different browser? I had that booking with Travelodge on Edge yesterday but when to Firefox and it was fine.

  • mr_jetlag says:

You don’t have to make the final payment, you can also convert the deposit into a voucher as long as it’s more than three weeks before travel. Have done this with a Croatia package last year.

  • Philip says:

Tempted for a booking to the states but when will we be let back in?

    • ChrisC says:

Don’t forget if BA cancel you can have a refund and if you cancel you can get a voucher

Surely worth it especially with the reduced deposits these days?
