Whilst it isn’t fully clear what is going on, British Airways is suffering from another major IT meltdown tonight. is dead and it is impossible to make or amend bookings.

EDIT: We believe that the back office systems are back on line as at 10pm

British Airways IT meltdown

Flights have been departing late, although at this point in the evening (9pm) there are only two services left to depart – Newcastle and Abuja.

The call centre IT system is also believed to be down.

British Airways IT failure

We don’t know anything more at this point. For better or worse, with very few departures at present even a huge failure such as this one isn’t going to cost much in terms of revenue and will not cause substantial scheduling issues.

Let’s hope Alex Cruz left his hi-viz vest in head office for Sean Doyle to put on.

PS. A comment below from someone who we know works for BA states that there was another small data breach this week and that it could be linked to this. We obviously cannot verify this.

There was another (albeit small) data breach last week. No idea whether this is connected but it wouldn’t surprise me.

    • Babyg says:

maybe they didnt have enough bitcoin to pay the hackers… last time this happened (BA TITSUP) my wife was affected (well not really but she was flying at the time of the glitch), but because of that, pregnancy, pandemic and pure luck she has been silver for about 4 years (without flying enough to earn it)…

I’ve had no issues checking availability until this afternoon. Was also displaying all my bookings earlier on.

To add a data point – I checked in online (on this morning at about 11.00 and everything was very slow but working. Can’t see anything in the app at all. Flight is tomorrow at 9.05. I’m hoping that there are so few flights they can do it all with pen and paper.

IT went down this evening 1800 delayed 1 hour 30mins.

NQY-LHR delayed departure from 19:10 to approx 20:20 due to IT outage. Told they needed a team in London to manually calculate weight and balance before flight could be cleared for take off.
