Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

1,000 Membership Rewards points for American Express Gold cardholders – if you’re quick

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

American Express has launched a new offer for the first 55,000 American Express Preferred Rewards Gold cardholders who sign up.

You can find the registration link under the ‘Offers’ tab on your Gold statement page on the Amex website or in the app:

Once registered, you will receive 1 extra Membership Rewards point on your Amex Gold spending until 6th September. Your bonus is capped at 1,000 points.

The offer will disappear once all 55,000 slots are filled, so register ASAP.

The offer takes your earnings to 2 points per £1 on that £1,000 of spending, a rate which no other card can touch. If you have a Gold card but don’t use it, dig it out.

    I have a 10% Funky Pigeon too…just to be this back to flights… (& 10% Europcar).

  • Bigmaggot says:

I have 1 Horizon offer after months of being signed up, Graze! 🙁

  • Saiz says:

Can’t see the 1,000 points offer so must be targeted.

    • Wally1976 says:

Same here, not in my account, and I received an email from Amex inviting me to use the offer!

  • Richmond_Surrey says:

Gift card purchase in Sainsbury’s then? I don’t shop there, because there’s no Sainsbury’s near me or on a way to work.

    • Alan says:

Yep that works although their selection isn’t that great.

  • @mkcol says:

I have the Pret & Sainsbury’s ones too, due to expire in 4 days.
They are 1 time use offers.

  • BAgonesBE says:

I have 0 offers. Nothing on MBNA.

  • Graham Walsh says:

I got a letter from MBNA saying they are going to close my account if I don’t use it. I have 2 cards with them, I think it’s the Horizon one that they will close. Is it worth keeping when I have IHG + Curve for FX (if I spend abroad again)? Just logged into the app and 0 offers as I’ve not spent on the card since Sept 2019!

    • Memesweeper says:

I closed my horizon and now regret it… but there’s only so many cards you should keep

    • J says:

The only guarantee with Curve is that they will keep evolving the product. Not a bad idea to have a backup.

      • Graham Walsh says:

Good point, I’ll check a few quid on an Amazon top-up to keep the card alive.

  • Harrier25 says:

Used my MBNA Sainsbury’s 10% off offer on Saturday, saved the additional 1extra MR points offer to mine and the wife’s Amex cards yesterday morning, so now time to cheer England on to the Euros Final. C’mon England!!!
