After interminable delays, Manchester Airport is finally opening its new Terminal 2 extension today.

Don’t get too excited. There will be a grand total of three flights today, all with Jet2. TUI and Singapore Airlines will also move across this week.

There is no word yet on whether Virgin Atlantic will be there when it restarts operations (to Barbados) next month, or whether the new Clubhouse lounge will open at that point. I doubt we will get a chance to see inside until then, and in any event the majority of the shops and restaurants will not open until later in the year.

Manchester Airport Terminal 2 opens today

The airport is promising, to quote:

  • Bright and modern check-in hall
  • Security hall with the latest technology
  • Eye-catching departure lounge with a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets
  • New arrivals experience with spacious immigration hall, providing a warm welcome to Manchester

In terms of lounges, it is looking very promising.

Here is the lounge booking page of the Manchester airport website.

The airport will be running two lounges in Terminal 2. There will be a new Escape lounge, accessible to Priority Pass etc customers, which opens today.

There will also be a super-premium 1903 Lounge, which opens on Friday. Entry costs from £32.50. I was very impressed by the original 1903 Lounge in Terminal 3 as our review shows so I have high hopes for this one. It helps that the airport also has a cheaper Escape lounge because it forces the bar to be raised for 1903.

There is also the existing Aspire lounge in Terminal 2.

Regarding the Amazon code – offer is live but amount for me was £30 spend
“You must use the code in the Amazon App before 27 July 2021. Your purchase must be of £30 or more in value, comprising items sold and shipped by Amazon. Some restrictions apply.
Your Amazon App first purchase £10 discount promo code is: APP10UK”

  • Stuart says:

Cheers – Amazon code still works as of 06:27.

Codes like this are really useful on repeat commodity purchases with a long shelf life…. £10 off my electric toothbrush replacement heads.

  • Si says:

The perfect time to add ‘The Year we Muddled Through’ and ‘The Wonderful World was Waiting’ to your Amazon baskets 🙂

  • Simon says:

Having done visits to the new terminal during its build period I would say it’s not the best designed, once through security the space is very enclosed with limited views out onto the apron (like Gatwick north). Also once down at the gates there is absolutely no retail/refreshments which could catch people out ( plan was no vending machines either). Checkin hall is very nice though!

  • Duncan Stevenson-Price says:

There can’t be many regular users of Amazon who have never used the app!

    • Rui N. says:

Why not? The only time I’ve ever used the app was to get one of these promos a couple years back. (And I buy a lot – too much! – stuff from Amazon)

    • G says:

Been using amazon for 15+ years and never once used the app – until today!
Thanks HfP for the discount code!

    • ThinkSquare says:

I bet there are loads. I am a heavy Amazon user but I never use an app if I can use a website instead (unless there’s a bonus, of course)

      • Duncan Stevenson-Price says:

Interesting. Any reason? I tend to find apps easier and more convenient to use.

        • Doug M says:

I find the experience inferior to a website. Mouse beats a touchscreen in every way. Decent screen on computer versus small phone screen. Probably an age thing, as I need reading glasses and definitely dexterity fades with age.

          • Duncan Stevenson-Price says:

Well there you go! I can definitely understand if. I’ll often use my laptop to order/book/plan something that’s more involved for much the same reason.

      • Doug M says:

        Agreed. Dislike apps.

  • MattB says:

Thanks, amazon offer worked for me

  • The Lord says:

Doesn’t seem to work on anything I put in my cart apart from groceries? Am I missing a trick here?

    • Eppleby Green says:

My wife says search goods on Prime before adding them to basket. Don’t forget the code. I got the £10 of 4 bags of top quality cat litter.

  • Gb says:

Will any Amex give you access to the 1903 lounge?

    • Yorkieflyer says:

Good luck getting into any lounge unless paying upfront at Manchester
