After interminable delays, Manchester Airport is finally opening its new Terminal 2 extension today.
Don’t get too excited. There will be a grand total of three flights today, all with Jet2. TUI and Singapore Airlines will also move across this week.
There is no word yet on whether Virgin Atlantic will be there when it restarts operations (to Barbados) next month, or whether the new Clubhouse lounge will open at that point. I doubt we will get a chance to see inside until then, and in any event the majority of the shops and restaurants will not open until later in the year.
The airport is promising, to quote:
- Bright and modern check-in hall
- Security hall with the latest technology
- Eye-catching departure lounge with a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets
- New arrivals experience with spacious immigration hall, providing a warm welcome to Manchester
In terms of lounges, it is looking very promising.
Here is the lounge booking page of the Manchester airport website.
The airport will be running two lounges in Terminal 2. There will be a new Escape lounge, accessible to Priority Pass etc customers, which opens today.
There will also be a super-premium 1903 Lounge, which opens on Friday. Entry costs from £32.50. I was very impressed by the original 1903 Lounge in Terminal 3 as our review shows so I have high hopes for this one. It helps that the airport also has a cheaper Escape lounge because it forces the bar to be raised for 1903.
There is also the existing Aspire lounge in Terminal 2.
