British Airways extends unused eVouchers to 30th September 2025

If you have an outstanding British Airways eVouchers from the pandemic, it has been extended by a further 12 months.

Vouchers had originally been due to expire on 30th September 2023 and then extended to 30th September 2024.

This has now been extended to 30th September 2025.

All travel must be booked and completed by that date, unless your voucher specifically states otherwise.

This is a generous move by British Airways, since it is hard not to argue that people have now had sufficient time to use their vouchers.

It was a different situration last year, when IAG – the parent company of British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus – admitted that it had €600 million of unused eVouchers. The group had initially refused to commit to a further extension beyond September 2023 at the time, and some financial analysts had started to factor in a balance sheet boost for the 2023 financial year.

I was always sceptical that British Airways would pull the plug. Many people took an eVoucher during covid – when a cash refund was offered as an alternative – because they wanted to do their bit to ensure that the airline did not go bankrupt. Expiring these vouchers would not have been a good look.

The problem for 2023 travel was high fares. It was very unlikely that you could have booked the same trip in 2023 with an eVoucher based on 2019 flight prices. With prices now coming down, this should be less of an issue.

Remember that eVouchers cannot be used to pay the taxes and charges element of Avios redemptions. They can be used to pay BA Holidays balances but not online. (EDIT: a comment below suggests that this is not now possible.)
