News in brief:

New American Express cashback deal with Boots

Whilst it won’t save you a huge amount of cash, unless you stock up on premium cosmetics, American Express is offering 7% to 10% cashback on purchases at Boots and

This should also work if you bought gift cards for other retailers from Boots, which is handy as most stores tend to have a decent range.

I had 10% cashback on a business card and 7% on a personal card but this could just have been random. Remember that you must register by going to the ‘Offers’ tab of the Amex website or app for each card you hold and clicking ‘save to card’ if the deal is there.

The offer runs to 22nd September. You can only benefit from it once per registered card and there is a £10 minimum spend.

You can see the current online Boots special deals here.

Hilton Honors buy points 100% bonus worth it

Get a 100% bonus when you buy Hilton Honors points

Hilton has brought back its offer of a 100% bonus when you purchase 15,000+ points.

The Hilton ‘buy points’ page is here

The maximum purchase is 160,000 points, which doubles up to 320,000 points with the bonus.

320,000 points is what you need to book a 5-night stay at an 80,000 points per night luxury hotel, given the ‘5 for 4’ deal given to all elite Hilton Honors members.

This is the deal I used to book 5 nights at the Waldorf Astoria Palm Jumeirah Dubai over Christmas, saving over 60% on the cash price. I wrote about how I did that in this article.

At $1,600 for 320,000 points, you are paying 0.5 cents (0.36p) per point. Our published valuation of a Hilton Honors point is 0.33p so you won’t lose out and could do a lot better at peak times.

The page to buy points is here if you are interested. The offer runs to 30th September.

Bicester Village Avios

Get double Avios at Bicester Village

Bicester Village, the discount luxury shopping outlet in Oxfordshire, is running a double Avios promotion until 12th September.

The standard Avios rate is 5 Avios per £4 spent.  During this sale period, you will receive 10 Avios per £4 spent.

You do not claim your Avios in each individual store.  You scan your receipts and send them to Bicester after your trip – but this must now be done within 24 hours of making your purchases.

You can find out more on this special BA page of the Bicester Village website.

Note that Bicester Village works with MANY other airline partners so if Avios is not your core focus you should still find a partner to suit you.

  • Tom says:

Can that Bicester Avios be combined with the various perks and 10% off with Platinum?

    • Andrew says:

Yes. Although the 10% off is on a limited number of shops and a limited range of items in those shops – it’s a very hit and miss discount card.

      • VerdantBacon says:

Does the Plat have to be used as method of payment when using the VIP pass?

        • Tariq says:

Not in my experience – I was given a fairly generic looking discount booklet when I presented my platinum card, so used another Amex card to pay.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Depends on the store some are -0% off everything.

    • Reney says:

Airtime offers 5% at BV, you will have to pay with a non amex but should combine with this offer.

      • Andrew says:

Don’t forget the reward cap of £5 on each purchase, so you may have to split transactions.

  • AndyS says:

No boots offers here. Not that I’d be likely to use it anyway; our local boots is crap!

  • Gavin says:

No boots offer on my ARCC

  • TeesTraveller says:

No Boots offer on either my Platinum or BA blue card.

Lots of offers for companies I have never heard of (The Outnet) or would never in a million years use (Brighton & Hove Albion) though.

The BA card has a £50 off an Apple iPhone when you spend £500 which I guess is pretty good if you are in the market.

    • Harry T says:

I don’t have any of the Amex offers I would actually use – no Dishoom, Lululemon or Boots. I can’t tell if this means the marketing system is working or not, but I won’t be using any of the offers on my cards presently.

  • Alex says:

No Boots offer across 2 cards 🙁

  • Andrew says:

Don’t forget the 10% return on Barclaycard at Boots which may combine with the 5% Airtime reward.

These should also stack with the 10% discount that Boots Contact Lens subscribers get off all Boots brand Products

    • His Holyness says:

Is that on all BC including Hilton? Where do we find the offer?

      • Andrew says:

Not sure, would be interesting if the Hilton Card offered the reward on IHG purchases.

You can click through from the Barclaycard site to register, the direct web address has a banned word so I can’t put it on here.

        • His Holyness says:

Got it, thank you. What gift cards are Boots selling these days?

  • Chris says:

How lenient is Bicester Village usually with the avios credit?
Went on Saturday and did not keep receipts, but they show up on my Amex App, do you think screenshots will work + longer than 24h ago?

    • Andrew says:

The staff told me it’s actually 3 months – so I would certainly send them in, worst that can happen is a no.

  • Phil says:

No Boots on my Amex Plat, Amex Plat Credit, BAPP Supp or my wife’s Amex Plat Supp or BAPP.

Guessing that this is intended to get new customers into Boots rather than Amex providing value back to customers.

    • Tracey says:

On my BAPP card even though I’ve used it many times in Boots.

Only downside is that I’ve put the card away until 1 September
