Today is the launch of ‘Week of Wonders‘, a week of special deals for members of Marriott Bonvoy.

It is designed to reignite your desire to travel even if that may end up being just a staycation in the short term. There are some good offers and points bonuses coming up.

We will be covering the best opportunities today, Friday and Saturday, but if you really can’t wait, take a look at the ‘Week of Wonders’ homepage here.

Week of Wonders

First up, because it is time sensitive, is a big discount of Marriott Bonvoy redemptions this month.

Save on Marriott Bonvoy redemptions during October

To kick off ‘Week of Wonders’, there is a simple but effective offer.

Redemptions at 4,000 Marriott Bonvoy hotels will be priced at off-peak rates if you stay by 31st October.

You need to book between today and 14th October. If you have an existing Marriott Bonvoy redemption booked for this month, you may want to cancel and rebook – but check that availability is still there.

You could make a decent saving here. This is the Marriott Bonvoy redemption chart:

At the top end, you could find a Category 8 hotel reduced from 85,000 or even 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to just 70,000 points per night.

Category 1 hotels could be as low as 5,000 points per night.

This offer does not apply to every Marriott Bonvoy hotel, unfortunately. There are over 7,000 in the portfolio of which around 4,000 are taking part in this offer. At the time of writing I don’t know if there will be a list of participating hotels or if it will be trial and error on the website to find them.

Marriott has provided us with the 20 examples of properties which will be included and which they felt would be interesting to HfP readers for a quick break over the next 3-4 weeks:

Don’t forget that Marriott Bonvoy also has ‘fifth night free’

This offer will combine with the standard Marriott Bonvoy offer of ‘fifth night free’ on redemption stays. This will pull down your average cost per night even further.

You may be able to combine with the current Amex cashback offers

If you are targeted, American Express cardholders can opt in to two generous Marriott Bonvoy cashback offers, valid across selected hotels in Europe.

There is an offer for £50 cashback on a £200 cumulative spend across Marriott Bonvoy hotels. These are mainly mid-range properties, although the list also includes the University Arms in Cambridge (reviewed here) and the Sheraton Grand on Park Lane in London (reviewed here).

You will also receive £100 cashback when you spend £400 in selected upscale Marriott Bonvoy hotels across the UK and continental Europe. UK hotels include Turnberry and The Langley. It runs to 31st December 2021.

For clarity, these are two separate Amex offers. You may be targeted for one, both or neither – check your American Express statement page for each Amex card you hold.

Whilst a redemption stay is, of course, free, any spending you do in the hotel and pay for as part of your bill at check-out will qualify towards the cashback.

You can find out more about this discounted redemption offer on the ‘redemption’ section of the Marriott website here.
