Earn a crazy 50 Nectar points (31 Avios) per £1 at eBay – the best Black Friday deal so far

Nectar and eBay have released details of a very generous Black Friday offer.

For one hour – between noon and 1pm on Friday – you will receive a crazy 50 Nectar points per £1 you spend.

This offer only seems to be available via the Nectar app under ‘Partner Offers’, although not for everyone. It does seem quite widely available, however, based on a quick survey I did of readers yesterday. It is not mentioned on the eBay home page.

If you don’t see it in the app, try registering via this page of the Nectar website.

The base earning rate at eBay is 1 Nectar point (0.625 Avios) per £1 spent. With this offer, you would receive 50 Nectar points worth 31.25 Avios per £1 spent.

Importantly, as with all recent Nectar / eBay offers, there is a cap of 300 base Nectar points per transaction. This means that you will only earn the bonus on the first £300 you spend. Your Nectar earning is capped at (£300 x 50) 15,000 points which would convert into 9,375 Avios.

What is the small print?

Before you can earn Nectar points from eBay, you need to link your Nectar and eBay accounts via the link on this page.

You need to be targetted for this offer via the Nectar app and you must register for the offer by clicking through to eBay using the link in the app. No registration = no bonus.

If you value an Avios at 1p, you are getting a 31% rebate on your spending.

There is a £10 minimum spend required.

50 Nectar points per £1 at eBay

You can only earn the bonus on one ITEM. It isn’t clear what happens if you put multiple items in your basket.

Only ‘Buy It Now’ items will qualify.

The standard eBay rules on excluded categories will apply. Full details of excluded categories are here but in summary, you won’t earn on:

  • Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles (parts and accessories are NOT excluded)
  • Holidays & Travel
  • Property
  • Gift Vouchers & Coupons
  • Baby Feeding: Formula

‘Gift vouchers’ is a key one to note.

This is, clearly, an exceptionally generous deal if there is something suitable – and, let’s be honest, eBay sells most things – on your shopping list.

The ‘sweet spot’ would be an item worth around £300 (a games console?) which is rarely discounted elsewhere.

However, this offer is still worth jumping on even if you only want a £10 book or similar. (I have started buying new books on eBay as it is generally cheaper than Amazon these days. There are multiple booksellers on the site with high volumes of positive feedback.)

The eBay home page is here. You can find out more about the Nectar partnership, and link your card, on this special eBay page.

guess we will see how robust the ebay web site is

  • Phil says:

I’ve got that offer plus a 5x bonus points offer. I wonder if they can be combined.

    • Charlie says:

Or would applying both offers stuff up the power hour offer, I don’t trust their IT!

    • Track says:

This second offer (below) has identical T&Cs, so I too wonder if it is safer to Unsave it, if having 50x offer.

      5x points
Boost your Black Friday. Pick up 5x bonus points on the next item you spend £10 or more on eBay.

      • Phil says:

I’ve only saved the 50x one to be on the safe side.

        • Pablo says:

If you are eligible for multiple Nectar related promotions that have been communicated to you by eBay, then you will automatically be awarded the most valuable promotion that you have activated, as determined by eBay.

  • Charlie says:

DK Children’s books (e.g. The human body, science, etc) in a Museum bookshop were cheaper than Amazon by several pounds. I tend to find Amazon expensive now except for their own items.

  • PL says:

There was a recent nectar offer of 1000 points or something for a £5 spend. I bought some soap for £6 but the points never materialised. Like the BA e store it all seems a bit hit and miss

    • Joe says:

I got that twice in quick succession – the first 1000 have appeared but not the second as yet. Is there a way you can claim missing points?

  • Andrew says:

People wondering if they can double up their multiple Ebay offers on Nectar- found this in the Ts and Cs

“ If you are eligible for multiple Nectar related promotions that have been communicated to you by eBay, then you will automatically be awarded the most valuable promotion that you have activated, as determined by eBay.”

  • Andrew says:

Worth noting that when spending nectar points you still earn nectar points on the transaction ie it’s treated as if you spent cash.

    • Alex W says:

Good info, thanks! So, equivalent to 25% back or 33% off i.e. 0.67p per Nectar.

With the demise of Christmas double-up it’s probably the best nectar redemption available at the moment – assuming you don’t want 100 cappuccinos.

    • Andy says:

Yeh, this is the thing I find most bonkers…

      • John says:

Why? For every £2.50 that you pay a seller on ebay, they take their cut of 32p and use 1p to buy 2.5 nectar points.

It doesn’t really matter whether the £2.50 came from your bank card or from 500 nectar points. Even if nectar doesn’t pay ebay £2.50, they surely pay more than £2.20 (and ebay also has to pay credit card fees etc)

Yes ebay will now be losing money when they have a £1 seller fee offer as that includes the credit card fees.

  • Metty says:

Just make sure that once you have saved the offer that you go through to ebay and activate it. Other offers work once you’ve simply saved it on Nectar, ebay doesn’t.

    • Whisper says:

Does the offer appear for you on ebay? When I log into ebay I see the 5x offer, but no 50x. I wonder will the 50x only appear on Friday at 12?

      • Whisper says:

I hadn’t clicked through from the app – when I did that, it said I am registered for 50x

  • Graham Walsh says:

I’ve taken a screenshot of the Your offer is saved page. Now what do I need to buy? Just typical, I purchased a new monitor on Sunday. Looking at their eBay shop it’s £50 more expensive anyway than buying it direct from their site.
