Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Earn 50 Nectar points (31 Avios) per £1 at eBay this lunchtime

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

A quick reminder that, if you are targeted, Nectar and eBay are running their slightly crazy Black Friday offer today.

For one hour – between noon and 1pm today (Friday) – you will receive 50 Nectar points per £1 you spend.

This offer only seems to be available via the Nectar app under ‘Partner Offers’, although not for everyone. If you don’t see it in the app, try registering via this page of the Nectar website.

The base earning rate at eBay is 1 Nectar point (0.625 Avios) per £1 spent. With this offer, you would receive 50 Nectar points worth 31.25 Avios per £1 spent.

Importantly, as with all recent Nectar / eBay offers, there is a cap of 300 base Nectar points per transaction. This means that you will only earn the bonus on the first £300 you spend. Your Nectar earning is capped at (£300 x 50) 15,000 points which would convert into 9,375 Avios.

If you value an Avios at 1p, you are getting a 31% rebate on your spending.

What is the small print?

Before you can earn Nectar points from eBay, you need to link your Nectar and eBay accounts via the link on this page and register for the offer via the Nectar app.

There is a £10 minimum spend required. Only ‘Buy It Now’ items will qualify.

You can only earn the bonus on one ITEM. It isn’t clear what happens if you put multiple items in your basket.

The standard eBay rules on excluded categories will apply. Full details of excluded categories are here.

The eBay home page is here. You can find out more about the Nectar partnership, and link your card, on this special eBay page.

  • Andrew H says:

I just ordered, and paid for some items on ebay at 12:58pm. I took a screenshot, which showed the time of the order, and that I’d paid. After 1pm I refreshed that page and the time of order changed to 1:02pm. If they don’t pay out I’ll be sending them that screenshot…

    • Grant says:

You can check how many points credited for the purchase by going to the Nectar tab at the bottom of the My Ebay drop down menu.

      • Marr says:

I’m only seeing 300 bonus and zero bonus points on a £300 purchase made at 12:58. The purchase is showing as having gone through at 13:03….

        • Andrew H says:

Yes, ebay have moved my purchase time forward, beyond 1pm. This is wrong, as I pressed the pay button at 12:58 and it went through immediately to the next page. That’s when I took the screenshot. Then I refreshed and the page remained identical except for the purchase time.

          Bonus points remain zero.

For the record this was in the Collectables category, which is an eligible category to my knowledge.

Someone else has described the same issue on ebay Community.

          https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Member-To-Member-Support/Nectar-power-hour-50x-points-query/td-p/7114680

Unfortunately I can’t reply to the post.

      • Andy says:

Great tip, I’ll be screenshotting that with my 15000 points!

      • Andrew H says:

Base points showing correct. Bonus points are zero. Is evryone else seeing their 50x points straightaway?

        • Andy says:

Mine says base points 300 and bonus points 14700. It did seem surprisngly quick. Did you see the bonus points indicated on the product listing?

          • Paul says:

Mins is showing base points 60 and bonus points 0 on a £60 purchase however the offer seemed very much there within eBay login and have screen shotted the 3000 showing at checkout

          • Matt says:

Assuming the bonus points don’t show (I’m a pessimist on this, given that some bonus points are already showing for others), do we send screenshots to Nectar or ebay?

        • Andrew says:

Mine shows as 52 base and 2458 bonus, 2600 total. That’s at the bottom of the nectar screen on eBay.

        • Jpa says:

Got the same issue. The final order confirmation page shows the 8000 points. The nectar summary only shows the 5x bonus points from the other offer. Paypal email received at 12:57 for the payment.

  • Babyg says:

grr “We are sorry to let you know that kidscycleshop cancelled your order and mentioned the cancelled reason as ‘I’m out of stock or the item is damaged.” – there goes my 15000 points

  • Gavin says:

My order completed at 12:59 and is already in the post system. Only a modest 1225 points though.

  • Jpa says:

It is an ebay issue, get on chat and complain. There is clearly an issue with orders close to the deadline. They will tell it will all be fine, but if it doesn’t show in the MyEbay nectar section I can’t see it working. It needs enough people to complain then they will have to fix all the orders….
I have got an SR number, but when I told them to raise it higher up the chain they just said bye and cut me off…. I can see I am going to have to chase this again when the wrong number of points transfer!

    • Babyg says:

ive been on chat for over an hour… onto the four agent.. each one thanking me for my 15years or eBay loyalty.. my easy 15k points is now painful…

  • Briand says:

When do the points post ?

    • Rob says:

Pretty quickly in my experience, assuming your seller marks the items as despatched.

  • Will A says:

Just a heads up, there’s now a 10% discount on eBay – seemingly sitewide – max £50 and today only with code megasavings. This seems to include gift cards as iTunes gift cards are showing the 10% off discount too.

  • gordon says:

My accounts are linked and I saved the offer and purchased an item for £111 and only received 111 nectar points i made purchase at 12:45 today is there anything I can do to rectify this

    • Andrew H says:

Gordon, a lot of people have had the same problem. I have spoken to ebay on Twitter to no avail. I can see complaints on other social media sites. Interestingly this gent on social media has asked Nectar and they are sending him to ebay. ebay are sending me to Nectar. So clearly both sides don’t want to take ownership. I will keep banging the drum about this until someone pays attention.

      • gordon says:

Glad I’m not the only one, I thought I had done something wrong, Thank you for the info Andrew.

      • Matt says:

        I’m in the same boat.

EBay are responsible here. The T&Cs clearly state that the obligation is to spend before the 1pm deadline. Having concluded the transaction at 12:58, we have met our side of the bargain. If that weren’t the case, then the whole promo could be a sham, as eBay could simply delay taking payment.

T&Cs “ When you spend a specific amount on eBay.co.uk during a given time frame: You must be registered on http://www.eBay.co.uk (the “Site”) and have a Nectar card linked to your Site account. You must also spend the required amount on eBay.co.uk before the end of the Promotion Period.”

        • Andrew H says:

Agreed Matt. I will keep pushing on this matter. We could leave it for 28 days, when the points are supposed to be awarded – but as other people got points notifications and we didn’t, I think notifying ebay immediately is the way forward.

  • Yorkieflyer says:

Ryanair was late into ALC so missed it😬 but also missed the snow 😎
