Hilton Honors has just launched its new Spring promotion, Points Unlimitedwhich is now open for registration – click here.

To give Hilton credit, it is very straightforward with minimal small print:

  • you will earn 2,500 bonus Hilton Honors points for every stay between 1st January and 1st May
  • that’s it!

There is no cap to what you can earn and there are no minimum stay requirements.  The bonus should trigger on reward stays given how similar promotions have worked in the past.

What is your return here?

Given that I value a Hilton Honors point at around 0.33p, you are getting a good return on your spending here.

For someone who only does one night stays, you would be earning 2,500 bonus points per nightI would value that at £8.33 which is a decent result especially as it doesn’t include your base points or any status bonus.

Of course, if your only Hilton stays during the four months are five nights long, you are not doing too well.  Your bonus will average 500 points per night (2,500/5) which I’d value at £1.66 per night.

There is no small print

There is no small print except that you need to register in advance via the Hilton website:

  • there is no minimum stay requirement
  • existing bookings still count
  • all Hilton Family properties (Hilton, Hampton, Curio, Waldorf Astoria, Conrad etc) are taking part

Conclusion

2,500 bonus points per stay is a decent offer, especially for someone who tends to do short stays.

If your hotel stays are generally just for one or two nights then you should seriously consider moving them to Hilton this Spring.

Make sure you register here if you have any Hilton stays coming up over the next four months.

Even if you don’t have any stays planned, it is still worth registering just in case – a lot can happen between now and 1st May.

Let’s see what IHG and Marriott launch to compete with this ….

Better than nothing; would have preferred double or triple points, though!

  • Mark says:

logging into my Hilton account now resembles getting the firing codes for a nuclear weapon! Username and password, followed by that stupid captcha thing, and now they also send me a verification code via email that expires after 10 mins!

    • Memesweeper says:

Crazy isn’t it? and then the login times out after a short time. Hotels.com leaves me logged in indefinitely by contrast.

    • RonnieB says:

There’s no 2 stage security on my account, but it’s pretty common practice. Unless you’ve been living in a cave.

    • John T says:

I agree. It’s a hotel loyalty programme, not the Bank of England!

    • Rhys says:

Don’t forget the annoying cookies selection…

    • jlo says:

As someone who was a victim of a fraudulent reward booking on my IHG account, I now expect any programmes with quasi monetary value to have adequate log in procedures in place, including 2 factor authentication. (Luckily I spotted it within a day or two, the reward booking was cancelled and my email and password were changed.)

It is an inconvenience until all your points disappear, and you wonder why they didn’t make it more inconvenient to spend points.

      • Lady London says:

But 2 factor authentication is not secure and more of an annoyance.

It’s like “so did I steal the person’s phone as well?” Errr..Yes

        • jlo says:

          Hello Lady London,
Yes, at least they need to have my phone, rather than a random hack of account from overseas.
The 2nd of the 2 factor authentication is supposed to be the “something you have” or “something you are” (the first being “something you know”, and I want the person stealing my points to be annoyed.

          • John says:

I’m more likely to lose my phone than to have my passwords stolen.

2FA to email is OK. Although you’d argue that my email could be hacked.

  • Harrier25 says:

Thanks Rob. I fought my way passed Fort Knox and registration is now complete! 😀

  • WaynedP says:

Yup, targeted. I got a “You’re not eligible” error message when trying to access, thanks.

Interesting I haven’t been targeted as Marriott Gold with 25 actual nights stayed this year and another 12 nights already booked for 2022.

  • WaynedP says:

    Yes, thanks Rob.

Have registered and considering swapping my Marriott Bonvoy booking for 3 nights in JNB at start and one night at end of my Feb trip to SA.

I have zero HH points but am gold via Amex Plat so understand that I’m eligible for free breakfast at the nice looking Hilton Sandton and almost certainly an upgrade if I book std king room ?

Will be watching with interest to see what Marriott Bonvoy retaliates with, as I have loads of time to cancel and rebook if I need to register for a MB offer that doesn’t recognise existing bookings.

The tips I’ve learnt from HfP 😆

    • DarrenS says:

I am Diamond now, but almost always got upgraded when I was gold. Rarely do I book anything other than a standard room.

  • Alan says:

Refreshing to have a promo that works from the first stay – Marriott could learn from Hilton! Sadly can’t see much by way of stays actually happening over most of this offer period, but fingers crossed for the latter bit of it…

  • Oz_Traveller says:

One word… DISAPPOINTED… This is a real shame following the 2021 points bonanza!
I have an 8 night stay in Dubai planned for April and was expecting a big points reward… the work trips might now be at the Holiday Inn. Bugger!!!!

    • Lady London says:

Still a good chance other offers come that will stack. Obvs more likely if business goes badly…which I do not wish for them.

Hilton has kept my loyalty throughout the pandemic by being pretty decent with customers. However if they introduce that pathetic $10 or $15 credit for Gold and Diamond instead of free breakfast as they’ve just done in the States for all of 2022 as well, then I certainly won’t look at Hilton first anymore for my future bookings.

      • Dominic says:

Interestingly, I received an email on this earlier today. Just changes to the US values – suspect it will eventually make its way to Europe.

        Some benefits, though:
        — Continued flexibility with your Hilton Honors benefits. Your current status will be extended through March 31, 2023, Points expiration is being extended through the end of 2022, and tier qualification requirements will continue to be lower than 2019.
        — Early confirmation on your room upgrades. Now you’ll receive early confirmation on your room upgrades three days before your stay if a complimentary room upgrade has been awarded. Plus, you can choose your room upgrade on the Hilton Honors app.

Knew about the first one, but the second point is pretty useful!

    • Harrier25 says:

      Holiday Inn in Dubai….nice. 😒

      • Russ says:

I think Holiday Inn’s get a bad wrap. The UK one’s are admittedly a bit ropey but go into Asia and they’re perfectly acceptable.

  • Algor says:

Without bonus it’s the weakest version to date.
