BA Holidays tightens its payment terms

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

We ran two articles yesterday on BA Holidays – this one looks at some of their sale deals and this one looks at the extension of the ‘double tier points’ offer to October 2022.

What we missed – thanks to ChrisC for pointing this out – is that BA Holidays has tightened up on its payment terms.

Until 15th December, you could pay your balance up to three weeks before departure.

BA Holidays tightens its payment terms

For all new bookings, you must pay the remaining balance:

  • four weeks before departure for European holidays
  • seven weeks before departure for all other holidays

This ties in with the new cancellation policy, which requires you to cancel more than four weeks before departure if you want to receive a ‘no questions asked’ voucher refund.

You now have the following options when booking with BA:

  • book ‘flight only’ and pay 100% upfront BUT remain eligible to cancel for a voucher up to one hour before departure
  • book ‘flight and hotel’ or ‘flight and car’, potentially save money on booking each element separately and pay just a small deposit now BUT be required to cancel at least four weeks before departure to receive a voucher for the money paid to date

You can find details of BA Holidays policies on its website here.

Hi I renewed my spire elite “properly” yesterday i.e. >55k points. Obvs has made no difference as was already spire which had been extended through end of 2022. However assumed I’d get a choice benefit for achieving properly but it’s not available on my account. Is this the same for all?

I found it took a couple of days to come through

I reached it yesterday (for the first time) and the reward was available immediately (via the website, not the app as ChrisC said)

It’s nice still to see this site hasn’t fallen foul to over doing the adverts. One particular U.K. blog you are bombarded with ads which detracts from the content. It has switched me off that site these days.

    • Rob says:

It makes no sense for us because we directly sell a lot of ads (the Bonvoy and Swapi ads today are direct buys) for a very large multiple of what Google Ads pays, and no-one is going to directly buy ads for a premium price on a cluttered site.

We’re not really too bothered about ad revenue we can’t directly sell – Google Ads are just 5% of our revenue. For other sites it can be 100%. We even dropped the ad between the article and the comments because it didn’t look attractive.
