British Airways is launching six new routes from London City Airport for Summer 2022.

These will be operated, as usual, by the BA CityFlyer subsidiary using the fleet of Embraer E190 aircraft.

Avios seats should be bookable now and should be freely available given that the routes were only added today.

BA CityFlyer six new routes

Where will BA fly from London City Airport in Summer 2022?

Here are the six routes announced today:

  • Luxembourg, up to 18 flights per week – full season (27th March to 28th October)
  • Barcelona, up to six flights per week – 20th June to 4th September
  • Guernsey, two flights per week – 20th June to 2nd September, Mon and Fri
  • Jersey, two flights per week – 20th June to 2nd September, Mon and Fri
  • Milan Malpensa, daily – full season (2nd April to 28th October)
  • Thessaloniki, one flight per week – 18th June to 4th September, Sat out and Sun back

Milan Malpensa appears to be in addition to flights to Linate, which are still bookable on ba.com.

Jersey and Guernsey are not technically ‘new’ routes but were not previously expected to operate this Summer.

  • Dublin
  • Düsseldorf
  • Edinburgh
  • Faro
  • Florence
  • Frankfurt
  • Geneva
  • Glasgow
  • Ibiza
  • Malaga
  • Menorca

Is it worth booking Club Europe on CityFlyer flights?

If you are thinking about booking a Club Europe redemption for Avios on these routes, remember that the Embraer E190 aircraft are 2 x 2 seating throughout (pictured above). There is no ’empty middle seat’ benefit. There is also no lounge at London City Airport. Economy seats also retain free catering, with no ‘buy on board’, so you will be fed regardless.

Unless you need the extra luggage allowance, the only benefit of Club Europe on the outbound flight is the superior meal served on board. You would receive lounge access on your return if one is available, plus priority security etc.

These services are available for booking now at ba.com.

I wish they’d bring back MAN! Especially as rail travel to London is so obscenely expensive at the moment. There was actually an article in the local press recently highlighting that it’s cheaper to fly to many European countries from the North West than to get to London on the train.

    • QwertyKnowsBest says:

Me too. Was a great, albeit not frequent, alternative to Ryan/Easy etc and a step up service wise.

    • TimM says:

Ditto, the shameful withdrawal of BA from Manchester with the entire season of bookings to all destinations cancelled at zero notice, with no alternative, added to the whole farce of British Airways being British.

    • Richie says:

      It’s back on Saturday.

    • Hugh Jardon says:

Ahhh Manchester, that of the dreamy spires and smokestacks, Salford United and the noisy neighbours Citeh, Coronation street, Shaun Ryder and Bez, the ship canal and the stone roses, Mad for it.

      • NorthernLass says:

Hugh – I have missed you, hiding behind other handles (or indeed, handlebars) all this time!
Indeed, the idea would be to LEAVE Manchester on one of these flights.
You can ski though (well, indoors), Andrew H, though I imagine it’s a pretty depressing experience.

      • NorthernLass says:

It wasn’t even that great, even in the Madchester days, to be honest, Leeds was a much better night out.

    • Alex Sm says:

Do you mean Isle of Man? That would be nice

  • SamG says:

Did Barcelona years ago so this is a resumption. Back then the aircraft and crew stopped in Barcelona over the weekend so a very nice trip out for them. Fantastic service up front on the way back , one of my best BA flights

  • Robert Brooks says:

Luxembourg is pretty handy, often found Luxair to be too pricey to count, and saves the extra faff of getting to LHR.

  • The real Swiss Tony says:

I see SOU-EDI is also showing as a route on Sundays (reverse on a Friday) Is that new?

  • Richard M says:

Looks like Linate may be closed over the summer, hence the addition of Malpensa. EZY are not selling to LIN and have introduced a daily Gatwick – Bergamo flight instead

    • Matthias says:

LIN is open over the summer (they only refurbed the runway 2 years ago) so it’s odd that the LCY rotation goes to MXP, which is much further out.

  • Richie says:

LCY-SKG appears to be a Saturday night stopper.

    • Matty says:

Yes, I noticed there was no return flight on the Saturday from Thessaloniki and no outbound from LCY on the Sunday.

      • Ian says:

Not sure if it’s still the case but lcy used to close around 1300 Saturday and reopen 1300 Sunday – could be the reason for no return.

  • Michael C says:

    IOM not back yet again…

  • Mirp says:

Does anyone all the routes BA flies to from LCY in the summer? Is there a chart somewhere?
