British Airways has just announced the first set of Winter routes that it will be flying from London Gatwick under the new BA Euroflyer banner.

Tickets to nine destinations were released at ba.com yesterday. If you want Avios seats then I recommend you book NOW.

Don’t rush to book cash tickets, as you may find that discounted prices don’t appear for a couple of days.

As a reminder, British Airways has decided to launch a new standalone airline to operate its short haul flights from London Gatwick. At BA Euroflyer, as it will be called, the flight crew and cabin crew will be on different contracts with poorer pay and conditions than their Heathrow counterparts.

To the customer, BA Euroflyer will look and feel exactly like a standard British Airways flight. There will be no difference in terms of baggage rules, seat selection, lounge access, food and drink etc.

Club Europe will be offered on the new Gatwick services.

I am assuming that the airline will be moving back to its home in the South Terminal although this has not been confirmed. ba.com does show Gatwick South as the operating terminal during the booking process.

Where can I fly on BA from Gatwick next Winter?

In the airline world, ‘Winter’ runs from the end of October to the end of March and the new routes are scheduled to run for the full season.

British Airways will be serving the following short haul routes from London Gatwick next Winter:

Gatwick Airport South Terminal
  • Alicante – six per week
  • Bordeaux – nine per week
  • Faro – 10 per week
  • Gran Canaria – three per week
  • Lanzarote – six per week
  • Malta – four per week
  • Palma – three per week
  • Seville – five per week
  • Turin – 10 per week

There will be additional services on 30th October to the key Summer timetable destinations. This is to allow people to fly out on 23rd October for half term and come home on the 30th.

I am assuming that more routes will be added as time goes on. There is nothing here to cover the ski season, for example.

I strongly recommend that you book immediately if you want to secure Avios seats on the most popular routes for peak dates. You can book on ba.com here.

I thought there were some ski possibilities from Turin, although the transfers may be longish from the airport.

    • Ivs says:

Exactly, there some great resorts ~1h30 drive, cheap car rentals… my personal favourite

      • Dave says:

Val d’Aosta is approximately 1.5 hours. I know because im going there for 2 months in a couple of weeks

  • ChrisC says:

    No Amsterdam or Berlin?

    These are year round destinations.

    • Rob says:

Best guess is that people don’t book Berlin 9 months in advance but may want to lock in a holiday flight to fit around an accommodation booking.

This schedule is so thin that it would hardly be worth opening the lounges so I expect it to grow.

  • Zark says:

Strange that Tenerife is not one of the initial destinations as there are only flights on Friday and Saturday through the winter months currently bookable and out of Heathrow.
In normal times BA used to fly more or less every day and some days with multiple flights.

  • RosieB says:

I also note the routes from Heathrow have disappeared leaving Gatwick as the only option. Not ideal for many.

  • John says:

Presumably they’ll give some FOs at LHR an opportunity to upgrade, and then newbies in the right seat. I’m going to wait and see how it goes and stick to the more established carriers for now

  • Mark says:

    Thanks Rob

Just managed to get Avios from LGW to ACE for the 1st-7th Jan! A nice post crazy New Year break after the madness of the firework season has finished.

  • Matarredondaaa says:

No Malaga? Pre pandemic flew 2/3 times a day and always full.

  • TimM says:

It is a very odd selection of routes. I assume all the major ones will follow later. If you have ever been to Majorca in the winter, you would not choose to go back. Nothing to Cyprus, Antalya, Malaga or Tenerife. This list looks like the ‘hardest to sell’ routes rolled out early and BA has a habit of cancelling routes not selling well.
