News in brief:

Save 10% on Virgin Holidays this weekend

Virgin Holidays is running a special offer from today to midnight on Monday. It offers additional savings of up to 10% on sale prices.

You can book for departures until the end of 2023.

I don’t have any further information except for the small print (spot the typo):

Up to 10% saving applies on a new package holiday where the price includes flight and accommodation or flight and car, booked between 00:01 Friday 28th January and 23:59 Monday 31st January 2022 , for travel 29th January 2022 to 31 December 2023. Saving applies to the total cost of the holiday, excluding taxes, APD, surcharges, and other compulsory charges which may apply at the time of booking …. Saving cannot be used in conjunction with any other special offer, promotion, or discount including the Frequent Virgin Club and any other affinity discount.

Full details should be on the Virgin Holidays home page here.

10% off Virgin Holidays

Save 10% at Harvey Nichols

If you have an American Express Platinum card (Amex Platinum review here), you have a new benefit – £100 per year to spend at Harvey Nichols.

This is split into 2 x £50 credits, one for January to June and one for July to December.

For a few days – the details are not published – Harvey Nichols is offering 10% off (virtually) everything. You need to be a member of the new Harvey Nichols Rewards scheme to get the discount, but if you have Amex Platinum you should be joining this anyway to get additional savings.

If you are buying online, you need to use code REWARDS10 on the payment page. The deal is also available instore.

Our article on why you should join Harvey Nichols Rewards is here.

If you don’t live near a store, your best bet is probably a purchase of cosmetics or wine from the websiteThe cosmetics section is here and the ‘food and wine’ section is here.

There is also a ‘gifts’ section here which may be more relevant for a one-off purchase at around the £50 mark.

Kimpton Koh Samui

Kimpton opens its first resort in South East Asia – Kimpton Kitalay Samui

IHG’s luxury lifestyle brand, Kimpton, has opened Kimpton Kitalay Samui, its first resort in South East Asia.

Kimpton Kitalay Samui is located on Choengmon Beach in the northeast of Koh Samui, close to the airport. It is described as being in “a quiet cove along the pristine beach, far from the hustle and bustle of Chaweng.”

Kimpton Koh Samui

To quote:

“Standing upon double-tiered, stilt-suspended platforms, the resort is an enchanting fusion of contemporary design and traditional accents. Local Thai design agency, P49 Deesign integrated rustic wooden elements from repurposed driftwood, nostalgic veranda-style features and timeless accents such as local artwork by Thai artisans. Earthy palettes and wave-inspired terrace furnishings lend rustic character to the 138 design-led rooms and pool villas, complemented by interwoven Thai basketry motifs on the bathroom floors and local artwork upon the walls.”

Two photos are above, and you can find out more on the IHG website here.

I also noticed some other interesting Kimpton openings coming soon in the Caribbean.

In Koh Samui, it was initially scheduled to open last year but finally opened this year. Award bookings include breakfast.

    • Vit says:

Did not make it as we were there during countdown last year. Next time for sure!

    • Barry cutters says:

Free breakfast in all kimpron reward nights? Or just this one?

      • Aston100 says:

        Definitely not all Kimptons.
The newish one in Bangkok advertised breakfast included in all their rates (inc reward nights) but then when I went to book it, they decided it was an error and removed it!

      • Phillip says:

Just this one as far as I know.

    • Aston100 says:

Interesting. I’m seeing an average daily rate of 51k points (breakfast included as you say), versus £273pn.
I wonder what the chances are of a decent upgrade?
I’ve got an ocean view pool villa in Phuket for not much more than this (prices were rock bottom when I booked), but would consider cancelling and staying at the Kimpton.

      • Phillip says:

I booked when inventory first opened with my dates going for 28k points a night over Easter. Haven’t stayed yet so unsure of the upgrade possibilities.

  • Nige says:

I just recently got the Platinum card. Does the Harvey Nics statement credit appear in the offers tab and need saving to the card, or does it just automatically credit to the account?

  • Mike says:

Oooh I love Countdown one of my favourite TV programmes but it wouldn’t stop me travelling to koh samui- I would probably just record it

    • Lady London says:

You into Wordle then as well?

      • Dr Tom says:

Wordle is just copied from Lingo (also a daytime TV programme and which has run, off and on, since at least the 1980s).

  • Andrew. says:

Does Virgin usually stop the sale of Virgin Holidays and Virgin F&H deals 2 days before depature date.

Was having a look for a depature tomorrow and the first selectable date is Monday. Not ideal for those of us who are risk averse and want to make sure we have a clear lateral flow before paying for a holiday.

  • Maria J says:

I was just trying to sign up to Harvey Nichols’ website and it isn’t allowing me to do that. Anyone else had problems? Thank you!

  • WaynedP says:

I presume the typo in Virgin T&Cs is 2023, and should be December 2022, given you can’t actually book for travel for most of 2023 by Monday.

But scrutinising the text also made me stop and wonder how one might earn the label of “Frequent Virgin” to become a member of that particular club.

  • pbcold says:

Any suggestions for an ex EU flight to Koh Samui, pleae?

  • Nick says:

The promotional period begins from 10:00am on Thursday 27th January 2022 and ends in participating Harvey Nichols stores at close on Monday 31st January 2022 and online at 10:00 am on Tuesday 1st February 2022.
