Where should you credit your stays for February 2022?

Remember that, irrespective of the offers below, there is never a single ‘best’ offer.

Some offers require multiple stays to maximise the bonus, which you might not do. Some require stays to be a minimum number of nights before a bonus is earned.

You need to factor in any elite status you have, which will earn you additional status bonuses.

More importantly, you need to be able to use the points. There is no value in earning a large bonus in a scheme where you will never go on to earn enough points to get a free night.

Hilton (Hampton, Conrad, Waldorf-Astoria etc)

Hilton has a Spring offer called ‘Points Unlimited’.  You can register here.  Our full article is here.

You will earn 2,500 bonus Hilton Honors points for every stay between now, once you have registered, and 1st May.

This promotion clearly works best for short, cheap stays.

Given that I value a Hilton Honors point at around 0.33p, a £50 one-night stay would get you an impressive bonus points which I’d value at £8.33. You would also receive your base points and any elite bonus.

£8.33 of bonus points is less impressive on a week-long stay at a Waldorf-Astoria costing £2,500, of course …..

You need to register in advance of your stay via the Hilton website here.  Existing bookings count and all Hilton Honors hotels are taking part.

The Hilton booking page is here.

IHG Rewards (Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, InterContinental, Hotel Indigo etc)

IHG Rewards is offering double base points this Spring.

Importantly, the bonus points are elite qualifying. This is very rare in a hotel promotion, with bonus points usually separated from status-earning base points.

The offer runs from 1st February to 31st March. Registration is required which you can do here. Existing bookings DO count.

The bonus kicks in from your first stay after registration, which is an improvement on recent IHG promotions which have only started from your second stay.

Basically, this is the total opposite of the Hilton Honors promotion. It pays out very well on longer, more expensive stays but won’t move the needle on a one-night Holiday Inn Express visit.

Let’s assume that an IHG Rewards point is worth 0.4p (which we usually say it is) and that you have Spire Elite status and earn a 100% elite bonus:

  • You spend £100 after deducting tax (so £112.50 total cost in the UK)
  • …. which is equivalent to $135
  • You earn 10 base points per $1 at most brands, x2 as part of this offer, plus a 100% Spire Elite bonus on top
  • You therefore receive 30 points per $1
  • You receive 4,050 points for your stay ($135 x 30)
  • At 0.4p, the points are worth £16.20
  • You receive points worth 16% of your ex-VAT spending

Current Marriott Bonvoy promotions

Marriott Bonvoy (Renaissance, The Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, Westin, W, Aloft, St Regis, Luxury Collection, Moxy etc)

Registration for the current Marriott Bonvoy promotion is now open, although the offer itself does not begin until 8th February.

Between 8th February and 4th May, you will earn 1,000 bonus points per NIGHT on every cash stay. I value a Bonvoy point at 0.5p so this is equivalent to a £5.00 bonus per night.  It is clearly a better deal on cheap one-night stays than expensive week-long holidays.

Perhaps more importantly, you will also receive double elite night credits. Each night you stay counts as two nights towards elite status.

Our full article is here. Registration closes early, on 20th April.

The home page for bookings is here.

world of hyatt narrow

Hyatt (Andaz, Alila, Thompson, Unbound Collection, Miraval etc)

Hyatt is offering a fixed bonus, like Hilton, which works better on shorter stays.

You will receive 2,022 bonus points for every two nights you stay by 20th April. Given our 1.1p valuation of Hyatt points, you’d be getting a return of £11 per night.

Importantly, the nights do not need to be consecutive or at the same hotel.

Our full article on the ‘Bonus Journeys’ promotion is here.

You can register here. Registration closes on 15th March.

And finally …..

  • Gtellez says:

As I mentioned yesterday in the forum, the Hilton promotion link doesn’t work (I have tried multiple times the last few days and different browsers). It is a shame as I have a stay in 2 days.

    • Rob says:

Weird. Will take a look later. Might be a version on the US Hilton site that does.

    • Walty says:

Also had the same issue but if you log into to your account and scroll down a bit on the account page, it shows the promo and you can register from there.

  • Thywillbedone says:

Is the consensus that the very good hotel promos of Q3/Q4 last year are unlikely to be repeated this year? Nothing particularly enticing on AMEX offers at present…

    • Rob says:

Let’s see. Until business travel picks up then certain segments of the hotel market are going to be soft.

What’s interesting though is that, even in the darkest days of covid, promos never got close to where they were 10-12 years ago in terms of generosity. Hyatt used to run, for years, something called Faster Free Nights where two (?) nights at their cheapest hotels got you a free night any Hyatt globally, and you could earn multiple. Starwood did the same based on 5 nights. IHG used to give out 10k per night when InterCon’s were capped at 30k etc.

  • captaindave says:

I have booked a night using points at the London Hilton Bankside in May, does that qualify for the 2.5K bonus, or is it just for cash stays ?

Will be arriving at Paddington for above visit, appreciate a pointer to best transport to Bankside ? I was thinking to just get an Uber…

    • John says:

      Should be for all stays

You can take the circle line to Blackfriars but if too lazy a taxi will do the job

    • Brighton Belle says:

We use Southwark tube stop for Bankside rather than Blackfriars. It’s a bit nearer and avoids the walk over Blackfriars bridge as the tube stop is on the Thames north bank but Bankside is south bank. It rather depends on the weather. The bridge route is fine if the sun is out and all is calm. But if you’re dragging bags Southwark tube has a few flights of steps on the foot route which is a pain.

      • John says:

Blackfriars is direct from Paddington and the subsurface lines are more comfortable

    • Jonty says:

If it’s a nice day, you have light luggage, and like a walk then a stroll through Hyde park, past the Diana memorial fountain, along the long water and serpentine, through green park past Buckingham palace gardens, then though st James park is very pleasant

      • captaindave says:

Thanks all for the feedback re Paddington ===> Bankside, its appreciated.

  • Paul S says:

Another the Hilton link doesn’t work comment. @Rob.. but I don’t think it is your link. Even when you go direct to the page on and try to log in, it just hangs (on iPhone/Safari and on a Mac/Chrome).

If you are a HH member, then instead, log in on the website first and then go to ‘your offers’ page. Then select the eligible offers and bingo. Note the offers page is not on the app 🙁 [classic ‘we don’t really value your loyalty’ own goal]

  • Russ says:

You’d think Marriott would be a bit more generous. Of the the three Marriott hotels I frequent socially, and I’m a heavy user, two have now temporarily shut their doors until spring and the other only has one floor heated. All our bookings (18 stays) have been cancelled. The only one open isn’t taking Amex anymore in the restaurant or behind the bar so one even has to be mindful when using any Amex offers.

If I was a hotel manager I’d be inviting Marriott over for an interview without coffee.

  • JohnTh says:

IHG “exclusive” offer just received by email. Enjoy a 10% discount on Reward Nights* when you book by 8 February and stay by 13 March 2022

    • Chas says:

There’s an alternative 20% as a “congratulations for becoming Spire” floating around too.

      • Russ says:

Also if you have the Hilton Barclaycard you can get up to 15% discount as standard on HI and HIX stays.
