Apologies for application issues with Barclaycard Avios Mastercard

Yesterday we ran three articles on the brand new, and very exciting, Barclaycard Avios Mastercard credit cards.

As soon as we’d published them, the Barclaycard application website collapsed. At the time of writing (10pm) it is still not fully functioning. It may or may not be working when you read this.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience. We are in close contact with Barclaycard and as soon as everything is good to go we will let you know.

Are you an existing Barclaycard holder?

In our article yesterday we said that existing Barclaycard holders would need to cancel their card and wait six months if they wanted the sign-up bonus on the new card.

It turns out that Barclaycard has a Plan B for existing cardholders which will go live in a few days. We should be able to share full details soon, but basically there will be a route which will allow you to get the Avios cards and receive a bonus. It will be a smaller bonus than the one given to new customers, but it will be better than nothing. We will run an article on this as soon as the process is live.

For everyone else …. we’ll let you know as soon as applications are open.

If you want to try again now, in case it got fixed overnight, you can apply for the free Barclaycard Avios credit card (5,000 Avios bonus) here. You can apply for the Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card (25,000 Avios bonus) here.

If you missed our content yesterday, the first of our three articles on the Barclaycard Avios Mastercards is here.

Can I link this to my husband’s Avios account, or does it need to be linked to mine?

    • Rob says:

If you apply, it has to be linked to an Avios account in your name. Of course, if you’re in a Household Account, it doesn’t make any difference as you still have access to the Avios.

  • lugo says:

I have an impeccable experian score but apparently I failed to qualify for a card because of it! I think it is because I put down self-employed.

  • RobC says:

Any further update on the timing of the exclusive offer?

  • John Y says:

My application was accepted a week and a half ago. I’ve only just received my PIN. I *still* have not received the actual card, which was apparently sent by second-class post.

Given the current state of Royal Mail, and the fact that the fees for this card are £20/month, am I the only one who thinks this is unreasonable? For that price, first-class post should be the bare minimum — and tracked delivery would not be an unreasonable expectation.

To add insult to injury, they tell me the three month period for the introductory offer started from the day they opened the account, not the day I receive and activate the card! It’s starting to look like I’ll only have two months in which to hit the target.

I don’t know if they’re legally allowed to do that, but it certainly makes me feel like I’m being ripped off here…

I received my PIN a week ago but still no card. Been on the chat with them this morning (not easy with no card number!!) and they told me there is a known technical issue with issuing the cards. I queried the impact on the bonus earning period and the agent would just say ‘don’t worry there will be communications soon’. Got to say, not convinced there was any substance to what he was saying

  • Frank says:

I just got my card and am unable to add it to Apple Pay. this feature is also missing in the Barclaycard app. has anyone else had any luck?

    • Rob says:

It’s not possible yet. They tell me it will be possible in a few weeks.

  • Julio says:

I just got the card, 10 days after the second and successful application attempt.
I don’t seem to be able to make any online payment, I can not even add the card to Paypal.
Just been on the phone with a lovely lady who kept experiencing computer errors trying to locate my acccount. In the end we gave up, I shall try tomorrow again.
She confirmed that Apple Pay isn’t ready yet, work in progress.
If feels like their IT people got told about the new card a bit too late? It’s not just the application process that has issues, issuing the card has issues, online payments have issues, Apple Pay has issues…

  • jeff says:

Has anyone tried to claim the Apple subscriptions? it fails when I try, called 3 times and every time after 30 minutes on hold they cut me off!

Now ringing again to cancel the card, awful service!

    You’ve been warned

Got my pin, got my card. Tried to use it on Amazon – no luck. Called Barclaycard, after being put on hold by the first guy for 20 minutes, I called back and am still on the phone with a lovely lady who does not know what is happening with the cards. And her IT team are quoting her 36 hours to look at any issues with my card. And I want to use it tomorrow in Abu Dhabi for a large hotel bill… not great.
