Qatar Airways is running a generous ‘cash and Avios’ offer to promote the launch of its new Avios partnership. Click here for details.

If you book a Qatar Airways flight for cash – but use as few as 1,250 Avios to partially reduce the cost – you will receive a bonus of 5,000 or 10,000 Avios after your trip.

This is on top of the standard Avios you will receive for your flight, since this is a cash ticket.

How does the ‘cash and Avios’ offer work?

It is outlined on this page of the Qatar Airways website.

You need to book your Qatar Airways cash ticket by 31st March and fly by 31st October. You need to use some Avios – there is no minimum amount, beyond the 1,250 Avios minimum required to use ‘cash and Avios’ – to bring down the cash element of the flight.

After you’ve flown, on top of the base Avios for your flight, you’ll receive:

  • 5,000 Avios for an Economy flight
  • 10,000 Avios for a Business or First Class flight

ALL passengers in the booking receive the bonus as long as each has their own Qatar Privilege Club account. The terms and conditions confirm this.

You need to have a Qatar Privilege Club account to take part

You need to use Avios from a Qatar Privilege Club account to reduce the cost of your flight, which means moving your Avios across from British Airways Executive Club.

This is a two step process:

  • open a free Qatar Privilege Club account
  • link your British Airways Executive Club account to your Qatar Privilege Club account, to allow you to move Avios back and forth (which is free and instant)

The Avios transfer rate between British Airways and Qatar Airways is 1:1.

We published a step by step guide today on how to link your British Airways and Qatar Airways accounts, and how to get 2,500 Avios bonus for signing up – click here.

How do I make a ‘cash and Avios’ booking?

You need to use a special promotional page in order to earn the bonus Avios.

Click here. You need to use promo code HFPQR although it should be automatically filled in.

How much will I save?

‘Cash and Avios’ works in a similar way to the British Airways version. You can pay up to roughly 50% of the total cost of your flight with Avios on a sliding scale.

Whilst this isn’t made clear until you get to the payment page, you can use as few as 1,250 Avios.

The more Avios you use, the better the rate. The best I could find when I did a dummy economy booking was 0.73p per Avios.

This is fair value for readers based outside the UK, although UK readers should note that this is weaker than the 0.8p per Avios you receive with a transfer to Nectar.

Whilst the current promotion is running, however, it definitely makes sense to use some Avios towards your booking to trigger the 5,000 or 10,000 Avios per person bonus.

You need to credit your flight to Qatar Privilege Club

You will need to credit your flight to your new Qatar Privilege Club account in order to receive the 5,000 or 10,000 bonus Avios.

Once the Avios have arrived, of course, you can move the Avios across to your British Airways Executive Club account if you prefer to keep them there.

The only issue is that you won’t earn British Airways tier points – you will earn status credits in Qatar Privilege Club instead. This is a trade off you need to make to receive the bonus Avios.

Conclusion

If you’d been planning to book a Qatar Airways cash ticket, this is a good time to jump in.

Not only can you save money by using Avios to part-pay for your ticket, but you’ll also receive a bonus of 5,000 to 10,000 Avios on top after you fly.

This offer runs until 31st March. You can book here.

Presumably this has to be a ticket for a genuine Qatar Airways flight?

  • Simon L says:

Any idea how much I would get off a lon-bkk return on Qr in business with 100k pints

  • Jeff77 says:

£80 of free money to spend in Sainos!

  • meta says:

It would be helpful to note that this offer is only valid for flights until 31 October and it seems there is a maximum stay. I just priced for Tokyo as need to go for two months in the autumn and it says offer not valid.

    • Rob says:

Erm …. it says that it expires on 31st October 🙂

Didn’t know there was a maximum stay rule.

      • meta says:

My bad, somehow missed that part in the article.

I can confirm that it also works out at 0.73p in business.

I’m looking at booking flights (NZ to UK) on Qatar and would love to take advantage of this offer… however the same flights seem to be several hundred pounds more expensive booking through Qatar than through BA (so can’t get the above offer but as they would have a BA codeshare number also not eligible for the bonus miles offer that was running when I signed up to Privilege club). I’ve been checking over the past week or two and this difference appears to be steady and across a number of dates. A bit frustrating that they are selling them quite a bit cheaper through a partner airline!

    • Emily says:

Forgot to add – would this offer stack with the bonus Avios offer for signing up for a new account and flying before end of September?

    • lumma says:

Assuming it’s a return and you can manage 4 flights on BA metal, you’d be better off booking via BA and getting BA Silver status rather than £80-£100 worth of avios, especially if the cash price is lower via BA?

  • Marc says:

Would this also work in conjunction with the 5k Privilege Club signup offer or are Cash + Avios bookings excluded?

  • Dawn says:

Do Qatar ask to see the credit card that you paid with when you check in for your flight at the airport? I’m going to be paying for my S African friends to fly Joburg to Istanbul and I’d like to use my AMEX card which I’ve done in the past. Or is it better from them to use one of their cards due to getting the travel protection?

  • Jeremy Gautrey-Jones says:

Have tried linking Qatar and BA accounts but it wont take double barreled surnames, i.e. – between names. Can anyone help?

    • Rob says:

The article says clearly don’t waste your time if you have a double barrelled surname 🙂
