Qatar Airways is running a generous ‘cash and Avios’ offer to promote the launch of its new Avios partnership. Click here for details.

If you book a Qatar Airways flight for cash – but use as few as 1,250 Avios to partially reduce the cost – you will receive a bonus of 5,000 or 10,000 Avios after your trip.

This is on top of the standard Avios you will receive for your flight, since this is a cash ticket.

How does the ‘cash and Avios’ offer work?

It is outlined on this page of the Qatar Airways website.

You need to book your Qatar Airways cash ticket by 31st March and fly by 31st October. You need to use some Avios – there is no minimum amount, beyond the 1,250 Avios minimum required to use ‘cash and Avios’ – to bring down the cash element of the flight.

After you’ve flown, on top of the base Avios for your flight, you’ll receive:

  • 5,000 Avios for an Economy flight
  • 10,000 Avios for a Business or First Class flight

ALL passengers in the booking receive the bonus as long as each has their own Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. The terms and conditions confirm this.

You need to have a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account to take part

You need to use Avios from a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account to reduce the cost of your flight, which means moving your Avios across from British Airways Executive Club.

This is a two step process:

  • open a free Qatar Airways Privilege Club account
  • link your British Airways Executive Club account to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account, to allow you to move Avios back and forth (which is free and instant)

The Avios transfer rate between British Airways and Qatar Airways is 1:1.

We published a step by step guide today on how to link your British Airways and Qatar Airways accounts, and how to get 2,500 Avios bonus for signing up – click here.

How do I make a ‘cash and Avios’ booking?

You need to use a special promotional page in order to earn the bonus Avios.

Click here. You need to use promo code HFPQR although it should be automatically filled in.

How much will I save?

‘Cash and Avios’ works in a similar way to the British Airways version. You can pay up to roughly 50% of the total cost of your flight with Avios on a sliding scale.

Whilst this isn’t made clear until you get to the payment page, you can use as few as 1,250 Avios.

The more Avios you use, the better the rate. The best I could find when I did a dummy economy booking was 0.73p per Avios.

This is fair value for readers based outside the UK, although UK readers should note that this is weaker than the 0.8p per Avios you receive with a transfer to Nectar.

Whilst the current promotion is running, however, it definitely makes sense to use some Avios towards your booking to trigger the 5,000 or 10,000 Avios per person bonus.

You need to credit your flight to Qatar Airways Privilege Club

You will need to credit your flight to your new Qatar Airways Privilege Club account in order to receive the 5,000 or 10,000 bonus Avios.

Once the Avios have arrived, of course, you can move the Avios across to your British Airways Executive Club account if you prefer to keep them there.

The only issue is that you won’t earn British Airways tier points – you will earn status credits in Qatar Airways Privilege Club instead. This is a trade off you need to make to receive the bonus Avios.

Conclusion

If you’d been planning to book a Qatar Airways cash ticket, this is a good time to jump in.

Not only can you save money by using Avios to part-pay for your ticket, but you’ll also receive a bonus of 5,000 to 10,000 Avios on top after you fly.

This offer runs until 31st March. You can book here.

Are you sure we can’t swap the FF number for the BA one on let’s say Finnair website and earn Tier points like with other partner airlines?

    • Rob says:

      You can swap it, yes.

What I don’t see is how you’d get the 5,000 Avios bonus if the Avios from your flight were not credited to Qatar Privilege Club.

I’m not saying it WON’T happen – it could be a separate process to how they send out the miles from the flight itself – but I’d say it is unlikely.

I tried to find a handy short (cheap) QR flight for the 10k miles but even DOH-DXB was over a grand. In August!

  • Anji says:

Just tried to book a flight and got a pop up message saying this code (HFPQR) no longer valid

    • Rob says:

Odd. Try QRAVIOS instead. This only works on ‘cash and Avios’ bookings.

  • Matt says:

Any Qatar Fifth Freedom flights this could be triggered with?

I am a BA Gold. Planning to fly LHR-Nairobi in Sept. Will it make sense to book directly with Qatar Airways in economy and get 5000avios by using my Qatar status (the lowest tier)? Will I still be allowed into Qatar lounges if I specify my Privilege Club number (not BA)? I assume BA gives bonus tier-related avios when flying with Qatar (if I book with Qatar and specify BAEC number? Would it be greater than 5000? Thank you!

At what exact point in the payment process does the Avios sliding scale appear? Is it before or after entering credit card details? I’m doing a dummy booking to see what’s what. I’ve gone as far as the payment page, but am nervous to enter my cc details and then press the button in case I’m debited. I’d have thought I’d have seen the sliding scale by now…

  • Bob says:

I have been trying to book for cash + avios. Tried clicking through HFP link, also tried the QA own site for cash & avios. Entered the QRAVIOS code when searching. Still struggling to see the sliding scale? Only seeing the payment page with card payment option. Anyone else similar issue? The account has 2500 avios, so not sure why is the sliding scale option not appearing?

    • Graviation says:

There seems to be an Avios balance discrepancy between the main/home page and the separate bespoke promotional page. The main page correctly displays your Avios balance when you click/expand your profile details box, whereas the profile box on the promotional page displays your Avios balance as ‘0’. I suspect this may be the reason we can’t get this offer to work, because it thinks we have no Avios to use. So I suspect it’s a technical glitch, but the upshot is we can’t get this offer to work, which is frustrating.

How on earth do I successfully contact QATAR airways by telephone? Virtually all the telephone numbers appear to be u/s. I tried the UK number this morning, the only one that actually rings, and had an unhelpful and offhand person who then “transferred” my call, without explaining what she was doing, and the line went dead after a recorded message….
In the past they have been very helpful on the phone.
