Interesting Groupon hotel deal in Newcastle

It’s been a while since we ran a Groupon hotel package, but reader Daniel flagged up an interesting deal he saw in Newcastle.

As per this page of Groupon, the Hotel Indigo in Newcastle – it isn’t named but it is clearly the Indigo – is offering:

  • rooms for two, with breakfast and 1pm check out, from £69
  • King room with balcony for two, with breakfast and 1pm check out, from £89
  • Superior Room with corner balcony for two, with breakfast and 1p check out, from £109

It is definitely the Hotel Indigo. The PR photo used by Groupon is the same one we used in our article here on a 2021 Travelzoo deal.

Not all dates are available, but they are clearly shown on Groupon and you need to lock in your date at the time of booking. You can book for up to 31st December 2022.

You won’t earn any IHG One Rewards points and you won’t get any elite benefits, but the cash saving – which should be at least £50 – makes up for it.

You can see more on Groupon here.

If you have a rail card you can get a cheaper rate with better cancellation terms and any deposit is refundable.

  • MilesOnPoint says:

NB. Whilst still a good deal, the Indigo Newcastle Groupon offer is “from £69/89+” pricing, so will fluctuate depending on required dates.

Weekend in September is £89/night Standard Room and £109 for King Room, solid value nevertheless

Are IHG hotels generally honouring the free breakfast for diamond elites? There seems to be reports on the HfP that hotels are refusing, but not sure if this is isolated anomalies. Thanks.

    • Rob says:

Good question. They should do. I have to admit that I used the lounge in IC Paris yesterday and was not told that I could use the restaurant, although in reality I doubt it would have been an issue.

    • Steven H says:

Hotel Indigo Newcastle is honouring the breakfast but you do need to select it as your benefit when you check in. I stayed there last weekend and have stayed several times since it opened, its been a roller-coaster of ups and downs with my stays but they are on an up currently and my last 2 stays have been absolutely great, front desk staff are great.

Also, another IHG flash sale I got emailed about yesterday. Book until 24th june for stays until 26th August… 20% off on the cash element when booking using cash + points

  • BA-Flyer says:

Have IHG confirmed that the free breakfast applies to reward stays? I saw some reports that it was only for paid stays.

    • Rob says:

      Rules contain no restrictions.

      • aseftel says:

To be precise, “The choice of amenity is only offered on Qualified Stays”. Assuming that this is the same as a “Qualifying Stay”, it needs to be a Quallifying Rate:

“Qualifying Rates include Reward Night/Free Night* and most business and leisure rates, such as Advance Saver rates, Best Flexible rates, Global sales negotiated rates (including but not limited to Corporate Gold rates), national/regional/local government rates, and specified leisure rates as confirmed by IHG’s reservation systems. In Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan), Qualifying Rates include all locally negotiated rates. Note: In Greater China, Qualifying Rates also include all corporate negotiated rates settled with hotels via regular payment. In all other parts of the world, locally negotiated rates are classed as Qualifying Rates if the rate is discounted less than 30%”

The terms were updated on 8th of June to make it clear that reward nights are a qualifying rate.

  • Matt says:

IHG’s Summer promotion offer runs until 31 August, not 30 September as you wrote in this article.

    • Rob says:

Fixed, apologies. The only way you can write HfP efficiently is to rely on your memory for 90% of the facts you list, which to be fair does work 95% of the time.
