(DEAL DEAD) BE QUICK: Most IHG hotels showing at half price or less for points!

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

I am typing this on Sunday afternoon – it’s not clear how long this deal will last.

EDIT: It died around 8pm on Sunday

Most IHG hotels globally, for all dates (albeit not the very short term), are currently bookable for roughly half – or less – the usual number of points.

The pricing appears to be:

  • Kimpton – 45,000 points
  • Regent / InterContinental – 35,000 points to 45,000 points
  • Hotel Indigo – 30,000 points
  • Crowne Plaza – 25,000 points
  • Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express – 20,000 points

I just booked Kimpton Paris and the new Kimpton Mallorca for 45,000 points and InterContinental London for 40,000 points.

The Kimpton Paris, for the date I wanted, was over 100,000 points per night when I looked a week or so ago, with a €660 cash rate.

It isn’t clear if not all hotels are taking part or only certain dates are included. I can’t get the InterContinental Amstel for when I need to be in Amsterdam, for example, but I know others have booked it.

You can even lock in the Maldives etc at hugely discounted rates.

This could be a mistake but it could be an unprecedented flash sale which is due to be announced tomorrow. Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are not included, which leads me to believe that this is a deliberate sale of some sort. Regardless, it is worth making some speculative bookings – remember that all reward nights can be cancelled.

Should you buy points?

Today (Sunday) is the last day to get a 100% bonus if you buy IHG points. You can buy here.

People who have done it say that they are posting immediately. I am not guaranteeing this to you but it is working for others.

With the bonus you’re paying around 0.4p per point so, for example, my Kimpton Paris stay – which is €660 for cash – would need £180-worth of purchased points.

The ‘buy points’ page is here if you choose to risk it.

Something weird going on. Great savings globally.

However, the HIE next to Boston Airport jumped from 19k to 26k overnight. Was about to book yesterday, but …

  • ChrisC says:

Thought it was a bargain when I got the IC at the O2 for 40k when I booked this morning when one of the Excel HIX was 59k (and a very poor redemption when cash was £ 96)

Checked my points bookings and saved a couple of thousand points on the odd night but 13k for one night in Manchester next April.

    • ChrisC says:

IC is now 45k and the HIX 20k

      Very weird indeed

I’m keeping the IC booking though

  • LiamG says:

Can I buy points with the 100% extra points on purchases deal and use them for this? Would be around £500 worth of points purchases for a room I’ve already booked for £820 for 5 nights…

    • Rob says:

Too risky if this is a mistake sale. May take 24 hours for the points to arrive.

    • SammyJ says:

I just did – the points have always arrived instantly for me. Just bought 300k and they’re in the account already.

      • LiamG says:

Cheers SammyJ… I took the risk based on your success and it seems to all be fine. £524 worth of points purchased for a room I had booked which would have cost £824, so you saved me £300!

      • Blenz101 says:

Is the real risk that they don’t honour the booking and return your points if it is a genuine mistake.

        • Rob says:

Unlikely, because the hotels get paid a flat fee – they don’t know how many points you used – and IHG centrally won’t want the publicity.

It’s also possible a massive sale launches tomorrow when this becomes official.

          • blenz101 says:

I agree for speculative bookings if you have the points, was more a point if you are buying the points and IHG decide not to play ball.

We have all read enough complaints about mistake fares and pricing errors being withdrawn that at least some caution should be exercised if laying out cash to buy points.

          • Rob says:

Although, ironically, given how little the hotels get paid for reward nights, IHG should still be in profit on the points you bought!

          • blenz101 says:

            can’t argue with that!

          • tom1 says:

if a sale is starting tomorrow, it would make sense that the Buy Points offer ends tonight.

          • Rob says:

            Crossed my mind ….

    • Jon says:

I purchased too with 100% bonus. Instant arrival of the points. Happy customer.

  • jek says:

How does the IHG Champs-Elysées Etoile compare to the Le Grand and the Kimpton?

    • Rob says:

Rubbish – bad location, average notel (LeG just had a monster refurbishment and Kimpton is brand new, location is amazing).

  • Sam says:

My August florida bookings have all jumped by about 20% since yesterday

  • NorthernLass says:

Awesome, thanks! Just saved 7k points on The George and 22k on The Willard!
For anyone looking at Berlin, the Regent is currently showing at 40k.

  • Philip says:

Booked 7 nights in San Francisco with points, just cancelled and rebooked gaining me 84,000 points for the privelege, nice one!

  • NorthernLass says:

IC Park Lane seems to be 40k pn at weekends through to next summer – the system has started throwing me out on my laptop but I managed to book via app. Hope we’re not breaking IHG 😂
