(DEAL DEAD) BE QUICK: Most IHG hotels showing at half price or less for points!

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

I am typing this on Sunday afternoon – it’s not clear how long this deal will last.

EDIT: It died around 8pm on Sunday

Most IHG hotels globally, for all dates (albeit not the very short term), are currently bookable for roughly half – or less – the usual number of points.

The pricing appears to be:

  • Kimpton – 45,000 points
  • Regent / InterContinental – 35,000 points to 45,000 points
  • Hotel Indigo – 30,000 points
  • Crowne Plaza – 25,000 points
  • Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express – 20,000 points

I just booked Kimpton Paris and the new Kimpton Mallorca for 45,000 points and InterContinental London for 40,000 points.

The Kimpton Paris, for the date I wanted, was over 100,000 points per night when I looked a week or so ago, with a €660 cash rate.

It isn’t clear if not all hotels are taking part or only certain dates are included. I can’t get the InterContinental Amstel for when I need to be in Amsterdam, for example, but I know others have booked it.

You can even lock in the Maldives etc at hugely discounted rates.

This could be a mistake but it could be an unprecedented flash sale which is due to be announced tomorrow. Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are not included, which leads me to believe that this is a deliberate sale of some sort. Regardless, it is worth making some speculative bookings – remember that all reward nights can be cancelled.

Should you buy points?

Today (Sunday) is the last day to get a 100% bonus if you buy IHG points. You can buy here.

People who have done it say that they are posting immediately. I am not guaranteeing this to you but it is working for others.

With the bonus you’re paying around 0.4p per point so, for example, my Kimpton Paris stay – which is €660 for cash – would need £180-worth of purchased points.

The ‘buy points’ page is here if you choose to risk it.

    Book from next March

    • Jimmy says:

Thanks – ive booked this too – the hotel website looks good.

    • PJJ says:

Good purchase. Just looked and it is now 109,666 points per night. Damn !

  • LiamG says:

Is there a way to find out how much a room’s usual cost is to see if you’re getting it half price?

    • Rob says:

They are not actually half price, they are running off some weird scale – always a multiple of 5k.

A top city InterCon would be around 100k, we’re seeing them at 40-45k. Kimpton the same. Crowne Plaza 70k to around 25k.

  • Tracy100 says:

Brilliant. I’ve just changed a New York Holiday Inn Express booking for the Intercontinental Times Square. I’m so pleased I read HFP. As. Diamond Elite do I get free breakfast on points bookings?

  • Joe says:

And I thought the ihg eward nights that I just used in Birmingham for commonwealth games was the bargain of the century. Like someone else upgraded a NY stay next year…

  • willie says:

    It appears to be:

    Kimpton – 45,000 points
    Regent / InterContinental – 35,000 points ~ 45,000 points
    Hotel Indigo – 30,000 points
    Crowne Plaza – 25,000 points
Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express – 20,000 points

  • Paul says:

Has anyone noticed confirmation emails are not coming through like they normally would?

    • Rob says:

They are coming but they are slow. Just got my London IC through after about 90 minutes.

  • NorthernLass says:

Well that was all very exciting but now I have to contact all the hotels and ask them to transfer my carefully-negotiated upgrades to the new bookings 🤦‍♀️

    • Helpmeplease says:

How do you manage to get carefully negotiated upgrades?

      • NorthernLass says:

Book extra nights in better rooms for cash then ask them very nicely if you can stay in the better room for your whole stay. Often leads both rooms being upgraded.

        • Helpmeplease says:

And then you just cancel the cash booking and stick to the point bookings? Or keep one night as cash or something?

          • Helpmeplease says:

This sounds like such a good trick if it works!!

          • NorthernLass says:

No! You book rooms you were going to pay for anyway (the Ambassador BOGOF night is very useful here, or 3 for 2 offers), then add on 1 or 2 points nights. So I’ve got 3 nights in a suite at The Willard at Xmas for the price of 1 night in the suite plus (now) 45k points (previously 67k till this article appeared). The higher status you have, the more likely this is to work IME. So stonking value even with the cash layout.

  • Sharon says:

Thank you, just rebooked IC Dublin booking for May – was 68k, now 40k.
