British Airways has started to roll out its Summer 2023 schedule with a number of new routes announced today.

As usual, this means that Avios availability on these routes is wide open. You will find 14 Avios seats (four Business, two Premium Economy, eight Economy) bookable now on all of these flights.

When I say ‘now’, I mean as at 11.45am on Wednesday. Snooze and you WILL lose, especially for The Maldives.

How to book Avios seats to Maldives

The Maldives

British Airways is bringing back Heathrow to The Maldives as a year round service. Flights were due to end in late March at the end of the Winter flying season.

Outbound flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the return the following day.

This SeatSpy screenshot show days with 2 x Club World business class seats bookable for Avios, as of 11.15am.

Seats are wide open from the end of March until mid August, which is as far out as you can book at the moment.

Las Vegas is back!

The popular service from London Gatwick to Las Vegas is also resuming for Summer 2023, which in airline terms means from the last week of March to the last week of October.

Flights will depart three times per week, on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, returning the same day.

The outbound departs Gatwick at 11am, landing at 1.50pm. The return leaves Las Vegas at 3.40pm, landing the next day at 9.40am.

Vancouver is launching as a new London Gatwick route

This is a surprise one. British Airways is launching flights from Gatwick to Vancouver next Summer, complementing the Heathrow service.

This starts later than the other routes, from 19th May. Flights will be daily except Tuesday.

The outbound flight leaves Gatwick at noon, landing at 1.35pm. The return leaves Vancouver at 3.25pm, landing in Gatwick at 8.40am on the following day.

Buenos Aires returns as a direct service

Finally, British Airways has announced the return of direct flights to Buenos Aires from Heathrow.

This has, for a while, operated via Sao Paulo whilst loads were too low to justify separate flights to each city.

The new service will operate five days per week.

Happy booking! Remember that seats only open up 355 days in advance, so the latest you can book today will be mid August 2023.

Great to see Buenos Aires back……..BA have just cancelled my return flight from there on 30th March next year. Moved me to the 29th which fortunately doesn’t screw up my itinerary too much……..clowns.

  • Laura says:

Still have no idea why BA are flying direct to EZE and starting LGW-YVR and LAS when they’ve stopped flying to BKK and AUH.

  • BajiNahid says:

156250 Avios with a companion voucher to las vegas off peak. I dont feel that this sounds about right for 2 people does it?

    • ChrisC says:

Have you clicked on the “more pricing options” tab just below where it’s showing that price?

    • memesweeper says:

are you actually using the companion voucher?

    • Gordon says:

I booked Las this morning CW on a companion voucher off peak in both directions 125,000 Avios….

  • Simon says:

Thanks, just book club to maldives for 2 people and even used my 2-4-1 voucher !! £1694 plus 125k avoos. Bargain.

  • Alexthenotsogreat says:

I have been trying a few ex-UK options to see what yields the lowest fees (and then will decide what is a decent city break addition to the trip). Tried Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin so far with Dublin being cheapest – are there any other good options people would recommend trying?

    • Rob says:

I think it is something to do with the Aer Lingus tie-up which causes this, because BA is deliberately reduced their surcharge – it isn’t just down to APD savings.

  • Aston100 says:

Are there ever any occasions when Avios Economy seats on BA are significantly cheaper than a cash booking?

    • Genghis says:

Yes – booked KIN recently for MIL for a good cash saving, though one way in PE. CPT often good value.

    • jj says:

Pretty regularly for short haul. Long haul, largely limited to peak dates, short notice or one-way.

    • NorthernLass says:

School holidays – thought you’d know this! Especially if you use the long haul RFS option. Economy to the Caribbean can be £1000 pp even out of peak season.

    • Will says:

Try Maldives. Economy tickets were £1150 for the dates I was looking for, 32000 avios and £340 cash much better, plus flexible.

  • Fred says:

I’ll believe any ‘new’ BA flight when it actually runs
They can’t even operate to current destinations as planned.
New routes like these just show how delusional BA planning is from present day and winter reality.

  • Mark says:

Anyone know if the Gran Canaria route is gone for good? Noticed Tenerife has opened for the whole summer season but from Heathrow.
