Double tier points from the BA Holidays promotion are (finally) starting to post

One of the most attractive promotions currently running is the ‘double tier points’ offer from BA Holidays.

If you book a ‘flight and hotel’ or ‘flight and car’ package for 5+ nights via BA Holidays, for trips where the outbound flight takes place by 31st October 2022, you will receive double tier points on your flights.

This could be hugely attractive. For example, until 31st December 2022, you only need 450 Executive Club tier points for Silver status, which gets you lounge access. Even if you didn’t requalify, you’d get a soft landing for the next year, giving a year of Bronze and its seat selection benefit.

Double tier points from BA Holidays starting to post

You could get a Silver card from scratch in one trip. For example, booking Manchester to Corfu in Club Europe, you would get (40 + 80 + 80 + 40) x 2 = 480 tier points. You get a holiday and up to 25 months of BA lounge access and free seat selection, depending on the timing of your British Airways year end.

Your soft landing to Bronze would give a further 12 months of ‘free seat selection within seven days of departure’, meaning up to 37 months of benefits.

There is one snag. Whilst this offer has now been running for almost 18 months, British Airways has been unable to find a way of punctually posting the double tier points. A few people have reported receiving them, often after making a complaint, but they appear to be in the minority.

(To be honest, I think BA Holidays made a mistake by not making this an ‘opt in’ offer. This has substantially increased the administration required, and the majority of the people who are now receiving bonus tier points won’t even know they were ever due them.)

Over the last couple of weeks, however, I have received multiple emails from people who have finally received their points. Here is one I got over the weekend:

“Have just received 280 BA Tier points today that emanated from a CW flight booking LHR-JFK-BOS-LHR outbound 17 Dec 2021 inbound 4 Jan 2022!!! Unbelievable!”

So, there is progress of sorts here.

How many tier points would you need for BA status?

This offer is still running for another two months. If you wanted to push for status it seems that the odds of actually getting your double tier points to turn up have improved.

Remember that, until 31st December:

  • Bronze status in BA Executive Club requires 225 tier points (was 300)
  • Silver status in BA Executive Club requires 450 tier points (was 600)
  • Gold status in BA Executive Club requires 1,125 tier points (was 1,500)

That said, the posting is still random:

  • some people are getting them backdated to the date of their original flights, which is what the rules say will happen
  • some people are getting them posted with the current date, which has messed up their plans to earn status (although some other readers have found this convenient!)

If BA Holidays has now found a way of posting the double tier points, it should be less of an issue. Hopefully they will post promptly after your flight.

Full details of the ‘double tier points’ offer can be found on BA Holidays here. Remember that you need to book by 22nd October and take your outbound flight by 31st October.

PS. If you are still missing bonus tier points from this offer, you will find various emails you can use to complain in this dedicated thread in our forum. Sometimes they get a result, sometimes they don’t …..

  • Graham says:

I did a book and upgrade with Avios holiday. Booked Dubai WT+ upgraded to CW. I got the full Avios and TP for CW (TP has just been doubled) but …. BA never deducted the Avios for upgrade! Based on the prices at the time this equates to about £660 for CW return. I don’t think I ever got the bonus Avios for the holiday but it seems churlish to complain about that.

    • Londonsteve says:

Now that they know that someone called Graham went to Dubai on a BA Holiday flying in CW, you can fairly sure they’ll come along and withdraw the Avios you should have paid to cover the upgrade cost…. 😉

      • Gordon says:

How do you know that was the name he used in the booking.
Graham might be smarter than you think 😉

        • Londonsteve says:

LOL. Now all Gordons are in the firing line for being investigated too 😀

  • The Original Nick says:

My friend needs 210 tier points to hit Silver and he has no problem spending to get it before the cut off of the end of December for the 25% threshold. Can anyone advise on some routes please?

  • Michael C says:

    a) If my year ends 8 Sep., would I have to FINISH a 5-day BAH by then for it to count as my reduced 300 tier points, or could I leave on 8 Sep.?
    b) If at some point I did a 5-day Sofia with a nested return, would it be too unsubtle/be flagged if I did that return on BA?!!

    • Rob says:

You need to finish it, as the BASE tier points will obviously post on the day you fly. In theory the double points are backdated to the same day, but whether this happens or not ….

      Sofia – should be fine

    • Londonsteve says:

I’m a tad wary of not checking into the booked accommodation, as you’re obviously not going to if you’re nesting a flight in there. You might want to e-mail the hotel to explain that your plans have changed and won’t be checking into the hotel after all, but you want them to get paid for the booking so here’s the relevant booking voucher as a PDF scan.

      • Michael C says:

Sorry I didn’t explain properly, @Londonsteve : possible idea is to indeed check in (near the airport), then go back to the airport either the same evening (low-cost) or next day.
I would however be keen on a hotel where I could just put a “do not disturb” up and pay in advance so no check-out!

        • Londonsteve says:

The Ibis next to the airport is probably suitable for something like that. Re Sofia you might find that two straight returns in CE staying for a night each time is the same price as your proposed BAH and nested flight on BA option. Either way it’s 4 flights, you earn the same amount of tier points (minus the minimal 20 you’ll lose for the nested flight) and all of them are in CE. Flying ET on a Neo for 3hrs back from Sofia is not a pleasant experience unless you’ve got status to get over wing exit seats.

  • Gormlesstraveller says:

The biggest advantage of Silver for me is Theoretical Seating.

The lounges are good as well of course but only when it’s not too busy.

  • 1ATL says:

Booked a BAH back in November 2021 for travel in March 2022 which didn’t comply with the double avios promo. (Booked flights and 5nts hotel, although the total duration was for longer and we did our own thing for the others outside of BAH). We also upgraded using Avios WT+ to CW both outward and return flights. The Avios and tier points awarded post trip were the CW amounts. The bonus Avios for booking a BAH were awarded too. Took a gamble and emailed a month or so after getting back for the Double Tier Points offer and heard nothing back and forgot all about it until the OH remarked they’d been upgraded to Silver. Low and behold a few hours later got the email apologising for the long delay and that both our Exec Club accounts had been awarded with the addition tier points (based on the CW amount and not the WTP that we’d paid for). Thank you very much summer intern.

  • Mark says:

Bought a euro traveller and hotel package and then UUA to club for a holiday to Corfu earlier in the summer. Extra TP’s for if i had purchased a club cash fare were posted recently so wife and I both unexpectedly BA Bronze now!

  • Kieran says:

Adding another data point, I had a BA holiday last December, completely didn’t know about the offer until suddenly I got an email that I was on the bronze tier. I assumed it was a classic BA IT mistake and it’d be withdrawn in short order. Luckily my membership year just clicked over so worked out for the best.

  • Richard G says:

Still nothing here. Travelled two months ago.
