Here are 10 new World of Hyatt hotels you’ll want to visit in 2023

We have been working with Hyatt to bring you details of 10 new World of Hyatt hotels opening in 2023 which would resonate with a UK audience. They chose well, and I think that most of you will find at least a couple of these properties tempting.

Morocco

Park Hyatt Marrakech

Over ten years in the making, 2023 is looking like the year that the Park Hyatt Marrakech will finally open. Part of the Al Maaden development outside of the Medina, the Park Hyatt will offer a resort-style retreat 10-15 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the city. True to its name, the resort will be surrounded by landscaping and what appears to be a large lake with a dramatic setting against the Atlas mountains. There’ll be 181 rooms, built in clusters around common courtyards, as well as 45 private villas with private pools. Opens early 2023. The hotel website is here.

Portugal

Andaz Lisbon

Hyatt’s first hotel in Lisbon opened just this year, but it will soon be joined by Andaz Lisbon when it opens in late 2023 or early 2024. Hyatt is taking over five adjacet buildings including the former offices of the Banco Portugues de Investimento. In total, the hotel will offer 169 guest rooms including a variety of suites. The Andaz Lisbon will be right in the centre of Lisbon, on the pedestrianised Rua Augusta leading to the large historic Praca de Commercio. Whilst the hotel doesn’t appear to offer a pool, it will have a rooftop restaurant and bar. As a big fan of the Andaz brand (I’ve reviewed the Andaz London and Andaz Amsterdam) I have high hopes for this new opening.

South Africa

Park Hyatt Johannesburg

Formerly The Winston Hotel, the Park Hyatt Johannesburg will open in 2023 following an extensive refurbishment. Comparing old photos of The Winston with the render above it looks like a lot of money is being spent.

This is not the first time a Park Hyatt has opened in Johnnaesburg – the previous incarnation was open until 2007, when it was rebranded as a Regency, presumably because it did not maintain the high standards of Hyatt’s most luxurious brand. With just 30 rooms, the Park Hyatt Johannesburg is likely to be one of the smallest Park Hyatts in the network and will offer an exclusive, boutique atmosphere. The hotel is in the Rosebank area of Johannesburg with convenient access to the Gautrain, a high-speed commuter train direct to the airport, and Rosebank Mall. Opens early 2023.

UK

Park Hyatt London River Thames

Is 2023 the year that London finally gets a Park Hyatt? We certainly hope so. Located in Nine Elms / Vauxhall, this isn’t a neighbourhood that will be familiar for most tourists, although the new US Embassy and redevelopment of Battersea Power Station is certainly changing that. The Park Hyatt London River Thames will take up the lower 18 floors of a 42-storey tower currently under construction. An unconventional location and new build development suggest its success will all come down to the quality of the fit and finish, although I’m confident that Hyatt will be able to pull it off, given my experience at other Park Hyatt hotels. Schloss Roxburghe, Destination by Hyatt

Meanwhile, Hyatt’s first Scottish hotel is already open although the bulk of the new rooms will only appear in 2023. Schloss Roxburghe is a one hour drive from both Edinburgh and Newcastle and was formerly owned by the Duke of Roxburghe. The hotel has been undergoing significant expansion over the past year, with the addition of an entirely new wing called the Estate House plus 50-odd individual cottages, which will open in phases over the next two years. It certainly looks intriguing, with two restaurants, three bars, two lounges and a 600sqm spa facility featuring two saunas and an outdoor infinity pool rounding out this stately home. Open now. United States

Thompson South Beach 

Joining the ranks of luxury hotels in Miami Beach, the opening of the Thompson South Beach will mark the return of the brand to the area. As one of the few new-build properties to open in South Beach it should offer an uncompromising interpretation of the Thompson brand, which is meant to be sophisticated, cultured and design-oriented. Spread over eight storeys, the hotel will have around 150 guest rooms and features the unique facade you can see above. A rooftop pool, restaurant and bar rounds out the offering. It is just across from Miami Beach Convention Centre and CityScape Park. Opening 2023.

Finland

Grand Hansa Hotel Helsinki, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

When it opens next summer, the Grand Hansa Hotel Helsinki will be the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Finland. Hyatt is taking over the magnificent 1910-era New Student House building just across from Helsinki’s Central Station. The Grand Hansa will be a home-coming of sorts, as from 1924 until 1968 the building was home to the Hotel Hansa. It will become the first Unbound Collection hotel in the Nordics and offer 219 rooms and five suites. Opens Summer 2023.

France

FirstName Bordeaux, JdV by Hyatt

I don’t know who picked the name, but a quick look at the hotel website suggests that FirstName Bordeaux is firmly trying to curate an image of Gen Z coolness and claiming to be the “FEEL GOOD hotel brand”. I’m intrigued, to say the least – my gut feeling is that this will land somewhere between a Moxy and a W Hotel. In other words, it will offer good design at good prices. The hotel is located in the centre of the city and features 147 rooms. We will have to wait and see if it is on the money or trying too hard. Opening January 2023. The hotel website is here.

Canada

Andaz Toronto

Toronto is home to a flurry of new openings in the coming years, including an Andaz. Part of ‘The One’ tower, which is set to be the second-tallest residential tower in Toronto when it opens, Andaz will occupy the first sixteen floors of the building and offer 160 guest rooms. The Andaz Toronto is located on the intersection of Yonge and Bloor Streets in Toronto’s upmarket Yorkville neighbourhood. If the renders are anything to go by, this will be a seriously classy hotel with some excellent restaurants and bars to go with it. Opening 2023.

Switzerland

Rhodania Hotel, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

Although it doesn’t quite beat the Park Hyatt Johannesburg in this list as the highest new hotel above sea level, the Rhodania Hotel in Crans Montana should certainly outdo it when it comes to spectacular views. This new build property is located right on the third tee of the famous Severiano Ballesteros golf course (if that means anything to you!) in this year-round destination. With just 41 rooms the Rhodania should offer a boutique experience, carefully balancing its modern credentials with cosy, heritage design. Opening 2023.
