Here are 10 new Marriott Bonvoy hotels you’ll want to visit in 2023

We have been working with Marriott to bring you details of 10 new Marriott Bonvoy hotels opening in 2023 which would resonate with a UK audience.

Italy

The Rome EDITION

Many of you will know I am a big fan of EDITION Hotels after staying at The Barcelona EDITION (review here) and The Tampa EDITION (review here). The brand is now opening its first Italian property in Rome with just 93 rooms and suites, and joins the W Rome which opened earlier this year. As you would expect, The Rome EDITION is “a few steps” from the Via Veneto and fully walkable from the main sights. It is a development of a historic building designed by Cesare Pascoletti and Marcello Piacentini, one of the key proponents of fascist architecture in Rome and will feature a rooftop pool. Kenya

JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge

Marriott is opening its first safari lodge on the bank of the River Talek in the Masai Mara reserve. By all accounts the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge will offer a boutique camping experience reminiscent of Al Maha (review here) in Dubai, with just 20 luxury tents. All tents feature private terraces with riverside views and the lodge will also feature a restaurant, lounge, pool, spa and firepit area. It will be the only luxury lodge in the Mara National Reserve. Opening in early 2023.

Hungary

W Budapest

W Hotels has been growing significantly in Europe and Budapest is its latest home. The W Budapest is taking over the former Drechsler Palace, previously home to the Institute of Ballet on Andrassy Avenue, the city’s premier shopping district. 151 guest rooms and suites will be available including one Extreme WOW suite, and the hotel will also feature W staples such as the W Lounge, a Great Room, Away Spa, FIT fitnes centre and WET pool. The W brand has been doing a bit of growing up in recent years and the new concept looks seriously stylish. Opening 2023.

Hotel Dorothea, Autograph Collection

Budapest is getting a second new opening in the form of the Hotel Dorothea, an Autograph Collection hotel. This hotel brings together three historic buildings with a choice of 229 heritage and contemporary guest rooms. At the heart of the hotel is a communal garden and bar and restaurant serving Hungarian cuisine with a modern twist. In addition, Hotel Dorothea will feature an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym.

Norway

Moxy Tromso

Marriott’s Norwegian expansion continues with the opening of the Moxy Tromso, scheduled for May 2023. Located above the Arctic Circle, it will be Marriott Bonvoy’s most northerly hotel and the perfect place to experience the aurora borealis and the summer midnight sun. There will be 200 guest rooms in Moxy’s traditional cosy style plus an eleventh floor sky bar with views across the archipelago. If the Moxy Bergen (review here) is anything to go by then it will be a good value option in an otherwise expensive country! The hotel website is here.

Denmark

Fairfield Copenhagen

Despite having over 1,000 locations worldwide, this will be the first Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Europe and the Middle East, so we’re keen to see what the brand has to offer. According to Marriott, “Fairfield celebrates the beauty of simplicity with an effortless hotel experience focused on bringing value, productivity, and a great night’s sleep” – in other words, this is a value brand that offers fewer amenities in return for a better rate. In this case, the Fairfield Copenhagen is half of a dual-brand property, with 234 guest rooms plus 81 rooms for Marriott’s long-stay Residence Inn brand. It’s located in North Harbor, within five minutes of public transport, local facilities and the waterfront.

The Seychelles

laïla, a Tribute Portfolio Resort

If you want to stay in a Marriott Bonvoy hotel in the Seychelles, your only option right now is the £6,500+ per night, helicopter-access-only North Island resort, one of the most luxurious properties in Marriott’s portfolio. Fortunately, Marriott is adding a second option in the form of laïla, a Tribute Portfolio resort on the main island of Mahé. It’s located on the edges of the south-eastern town of Anse Royale and features 76 guest rooms plus eight suites with plunge pools with views across the ocean or the near by mountains. With three restaurants, three bars, a spa, gym, pool and kids club, laïla looks like it could be a good family option. Opening February 2023. The hotel website is here.

United Kingdom

The St Regis London

The St Regis London will be the result of a £90 million redevelopment of the Westbury Mayfair Hotel. The Westbury Mayfair Hotel is a former Luxury Collection hotel and has been part of the Marriott Bonvoy family for some time. The hotel is located on the corner of Bond Street and Conduit Street. Louis Vuitton, Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, and Hermes are literally within spitting distance – as is virtually every other luxury brand. The Royal Academy is just round the corner. The renovation involves adding an eighth floor as well as rear extension, plus renovations to the facade and main entrance drop off area. The plan is to open with 196 rooms and suites. Designs are by Richmond International, which also worked on The Langham, Four Seasons Trinity Square and Fairmont Royal Pavilion (review here). There is no website yet and no opening date beyond ‘2023’.

W Edinburgh

A long time coming, the W Edinburgh is set to finally open its doors in late 2023. Designed by the same architects behind the W London, the W Edinburgh is sure to become an iconic part of the Edinburgh skyline given the building’s unique shape! The 12 storey building will feature 234 rooms and suites whilst the rooftop will host a SUSHISAMBA with 360-degree views across the city. Opening late 2023.

And, in the USA, one that just opened ….

Moxy Lower East Side, New York

Technically not a new opening for 2023, the Moxy Lower East Side opened its doors just a few weeks ago. This is the fourth Moxy hotel in New York developed in partnership with developer Lightstone, which also operates the Moxy Chelsea (review here) that impressed me this summer. There are 303 rooms in Moxy’s signature style here, some with what look like enticing views. Like the Moxy Chelsea, this one features a 16th floor rooftop bar in addition to a raft of other eating and drinking venues and is located on the border between Soho and the Lower East Side.
