SCHLOSS Roxburghe, near Kelso in Scotland, is now officially part of the ‘Destination By Hyatt’ brand. This is the first ‘Destination By’ property in the UK.

What was an existing historial estate has seen the addition of a funky-looking spa (image below), 58 new rooms and suites in a new extension called The Estate House and 12 classically designed luxury cottages.

Just a few miles from the scenic market town of Kelso, and an hour from Edinburgh and Newcastle, SCHLOSS Roxburghe raises the bar on luxury for travelers seeking a tranquil, rural escape in Scotland. In keeping with the brand’s ambition to build a distinct portfolio of luxury properties that connect guests with people, cultures and places, the property capitalizes on the growing demand from travelers seeking to escape their daily routine in style. The extensive range of amenities across SCHLOSS Roxburghe’s 300 acres of scenic countryside gives guests a true sense of place.

Formerly owned by the Duke of Roxburghe, the elegant countryside retreat offers a total of 78 rooms and suites as well as 12 two-bedroom cottages, 20 guestrooms and suites within the historic manor house and 58 guestrooms within The Estate House. Looking ahead, the property is set to introduce 50 additional cottages, planned to be available to guests starting in 2023.

Featuring striking high ceilings and decorated with a combination of Scottish tartans, the 20 guestrooms and suites located inside and adjacent to the historic main house feature oak wood, natural stone, and sumptuous textiles. These beautifully furnished rooms are each unique in character and highlight the eternal beauty and history of the time-honored building.

Extravagant fittings and fixtures such as four-poster beds and private balconies can be found within The Estate House too. Offering some of the finest views of the estate, these 58 additional guestrooms are spacious and flooded with light, providing stylish, yet modern comfort in the most enchanting of settings.

Guests in all accommodation categories are able to take full advantage of the wealth of facilities across the stately grounds.

As for the spa:

The 12,000 square foot (1,100 square meter) SCHLOSS Spa is a first-class wellbeing facility which includes an outdoor heated infinity swimming pool, complete with an underwater sound system. It is accompanied by a plunge pool and hot tub, allowing guests to truly soak up the hotel’s serene atmosphere.

To further set the stage for guests to dive into the estate’s natural beauty while pampering their soul, the large, 6,400 square foot (600 square meter) relaxation area features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the landscaped grounds and rolling views toward the Scottish Borders.

For the ultimate indulgence, three treatment rooms ensure guests can take full advantage of the soothing range of natural treatments available. The luxury spa also offers a fully equipped fitness suite plus a rustic Finnish dry sauna and a glass-fronted aromatic sauna, both with pool views.

Leisure activities include the hotel’s own 18-hole championship golf course and salmon fishing, archery and clay pigeon shooting via the in-house Country Sports Centre.

This is clearly something very different for Hyatt and it will be interesting to see feedback. The hotel website is here.

So Flybe went bust, again? The writing was on the wall.

    • His Holyness says:

Oh wow yes! Kevin Hatton and David Pflieger should be banned from any kind of airline business.

    • Catalan says:

It was always going to fail, again. Bye bye Flymaybe, again!

  • Rui N. says:

Non-political articles in the Spectator? Where?

    • Thegasman says:

      The food & drink reviews…

      • Rob says:

Rory Sutherland on marketing, the business page, the sports page, the columnists at the back …. quite a bit.

        • Rui N. says:

The “sports page” is half a page every other week. The columnists at the back is the restaurant review (political) and the grammar police (political)

      • Rui N. says:

        It’s political as well…

  • Konr says:

That extension to the SCHLOSS Roxburghe just look out of place. That is judging by the photo.

    • Ade says:

It’s around the back so you can’t actually see it as you approach the hotel from the front. I didn’t think it looked that bad from the side but everything was covered in snow when I was there which always makes things look better!

  • Robert says:

Can I just check, is the last photo with an outdoor swimming pool part of the Scottish hotel, or a general image relating to the last bit about Virgin Holidays?

    • Froggee says:

      Welcome to Scotland.

    • Rob says:

It’s the Schloss! Pool is heated (can’t wait to see the leccy bill).

      • Robert says:

Thanks, will give this place a try soon. However will have to try one of Hyatts SLH options (crossbasket castle or Cromlix) due to locations for a stopover when driving back from the highlands.

Subscribed to the Spectator once for the £12 for 12 weeks plus a free bottle of Johnnie Walker Black.

It was the online only version so I managed to not open a single article and cancelled the sub as soon as the whisky turned up.

  • Sven says:

I used the Spectator deal in December/January but had to email customer services for it to activate. Got 12,500 points for a one year subscription which was actually cheaper than what was said on the landing page. Not sure if they had forgotten about it and now rectified it/closed the deal.

  • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

I’d always assumed The Spectator would land politically in exactly the right place for HNW HfP readers within M25 and with BAEC Gold. Surprised to see its politics as something to get over for the sake of Avios. I’d have assumed win-win.

    • lumma says:

1.19p per Avios. Surely you’d need to enjoy the magazine to think it’s worthwhile paying that

      • Rob says:

That’s roughly the same price as buying them for a 40-50% bonus with no magazine.

    • Ben W says:

I think your stereotype would be more accurate for *outside* the M25 than within it.

  • MCO says:

I was there last week and the hotel is nice but the cottages are unfinished and the whole place around them is a building site. They are building another 30 odd cottages so will be most likely be this way for a while.
