About citizenM hotels

citizenM continues to grow at great pace, now with a portfolio of 30 open hotels and another seven due to open this year. Recent openings include Miami Worldcenter (with Miami South Beach opening very soon), Paris Opera and Chicago Downtown.

citizenM Victoria

We’ve reviewed three of the four London-based citizenMs: citizenM Shoreditch last October, along with citizenM Victoria back in July and the Tower of London property in 2021.

The hotels are all owned and operated by citizenM meaning that, unlike franchised hotels, they have tight control over the hotel standards. We’ve found them to be incredibly consistent; you know exactly what you’ll get when you check into the room, from the square footage to the positioning of the furniture.

What is mycitizenM+?

citizenM has a free loyalty programme, mycitizenM, but you don’t earn points. Instead members get access to a range of offers including a best price guarantee and refer-a-friend benefits.

However, citizenM now has a subscription element to the programme called mycitizenM+. Subscribers get a number of additional guaranteed benefits including:

  • an extra 10% off, always
  • guaranteed room (48 hours notice required)
  • free late check out & a premium view
  • ‘first in queue’ chat service
  • early access to offers and promotions

The mycitizenM+ subscription costs £9 per month or £90 per year. However, citizenM is offering a 3-month free trial of the service when you use this link to sign up.

Welcome to the citizenM Spring Sale

The Spring Sale is offering an attractive up to 25% saving at all citizenM hotels. However, the number of rooms available at a discount is limited, making the early access offer all the more attractive.

I had a quick look at the difference in price and it is significant. For example, a night at the New York Times Square citizenM in April is currently listed at $429 but the early access mycitizenM+ rate is $321.

How to unlock the offer

Head to the citizenM site using this link and click the ‘free trial’ link in the Spring Sale copy at the top.

Follow all the prompts to enrol and you should immediately be able to make a booking at the discounted rate. If you make the booking via the citizenM app, you’ll get a free welcome drink when you check in.

There are some terms and conditions you should be aware of:

  • mycitizenM+ members can book between noon (CET) 24 February 2023 and midnight (CET) 12 March 2023, stay between 24 February and 31 August 2023
  • mycitizenM & public rates can booked between noon (CET) 27 February and midnight (CET) 12 March 2023, stay between 27 February and 31 August 2023
  • Certain dates are not included. These may vary per hotel.
  • Cancellation terms vary per hotel and rate you choose during booking
  • The number of rooms on sale is limted. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
  • The rate you book is specific for that hotel and stay date. If you change or cancel your booking, the original rate might not be available anymore.
  • Breakfast is not included (but you can add it anytime for a small extra fee)
  • Our beds are huge, but we only allow two people per room
  • This offer can’t be combined with any other promotions and doesn’t apply to current reservations
  • mycitizenM members may book up to 10 rooms in the spring sale. If you need more than 10 rooms, different rates and conditions will apply. mycitizenM+ members can book up to 2 rooms with mycitizenM+ spring sale rate.

“Our beds are huge, but we only allow two people per room”

Are their beds huge? This is the chain that has tiny rooms and the bed is under the window but what are the actual size of the beds? Double, king…? I’ve been in some hotels with truly massive beds before but I don’t think this is one

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

I’ve only stayed in the one at Schiphol and the bed is a King,

  • ZW says:

$400/$300 a night is a low cost hotel?

    • Rob says:

I see you’ve not been to London recently.

      • ZW says:

Is it going to be the new norm?

        • Rob says:

Sat 24 June (to pick a day at random) – HI Express Southwark £276, HI Express Victoria £310, HI Express Park Royal (!) £277 …. so, yes, is the answer.

          • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Wow, prices for June are absolutely crazy. Probably cheaper nearer the time when they discover that they can’t fill all the rooms

          • Rob says:

            Let’s see … Wimbledon, Henley, university graduations … I think they’ll sell.

          • Chabuddy Geezy says:

HIE Park Royal is next to North Acton tube station so 20 mins from Bond Street. The hotels that are kind of close to Wembley Stadium/Arena have very high rates on event days.

          • Erico1875 says:

            Only if we allow it.
These prices are like Argentina inflation, over 100%
They are artificially high and will continue to be charged if we allow it.
Anyone prepared to pay nearly £300 for a crappy HIX deserves to be gouged.

          • lumma says:

So not a day picked at random them, a day you know there’s massive demand to make this chain not look like the rip-off that it is?

          • Rob says:

It’s a general Summer weekend in London – always some big event on. Wimbledon is tiny compared to, say, the FA Cup Final or BST.

  • tw33ty says:

Consider this, the number of available rooms in the city has and still is going down, due to government and councils housing asylum seekers, homeless etc.

It’s creating artificial demand and pushing up prices, it’s the same in Hamburg atm, but on a bigger scale with the extra Ukrainians being housed in hotels.

I was £200 a night for crowne plaza Ealing the other week even thought it’s a dump now, but it was still less than hie and hi at Acton.

Also I know a couple of hotels that are deliberately pushing up their prices to avoid as many people coming as they are so short staffed, trying to get housekeeping staff and restaurant staff is neigh on impossible for some.
