American Express has launched a new cashback deal with Hilton, covering selected European hotels.

If you are targetted, you will see the deal on the ‘Offers’ page of one or more of your Amex cards on the app or website. Don’t waste your time checking your Marriott Bonvoy Amex however ….

You will receive £50 cashback when you spend £200 on your card with Hilton by 31st May.

£50 American Express and Hilton cashback offer launched

The rules confirm that cumulative spend counts – you don’t need to do £200 in one transaction.

There are a huge number of UK hotels listed along with a large number in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Existing bookings are fine as long as they are not already pre-paid. There is no need to rebook anything.

This offer stacks with the current Hilton promotion

Don’t forget to register for Hilton’s new promotion if you are planning a stay.

Hilton’s Spring offer is called ‘Double Up & Explore’.  You can register here.  Our full article on the current Hilton promotion is here. It runs until 30th April.

It is a two part offer, which is interesting.

You will earn double base points on all stays.

You will earn an additional 1,000 bonus Hilton Honors points for every different brand you stay with. This kicks in from your first stay.

We value 1,000 Hilton Honors points at £3.33 so – when you factor in double base points, any elite status bonus and the American Express cashback – this is attractive for cheap, short midweek stays.

You need to register for the promotion in advance of your stay via the Hilton website here.  Existing bookings count and all Hilton Honors hotels are taking part. Our full review of Hilton Honors is here.

The Hilton booking page is here.

On both my wife’s and my BAPPs. Staying at the Hilton Berlin next month so if we split the bill that’s £100 off!
Quick question – in the small print is says it’s only “applies to transactions in GBP”. Does that mean I have to ask to pay in GBP and not Euros? The exchange rate will be terrible if I have to, and will eat into some of the savings.

    • Rob says:

Ignore that line. Amex does not all merchants to do DCC so it is impossible NOT to pay in Euro in Germany.

      • S says:

I’m not sure if a similar condition existed for the recent £75 back on £300 spend at IHG, but I triggered this entirely from a stay in Germany recently. The savings were greater than the £10 or so load on a £300-ish spend. I assume the same applies to this?

  • ianM says:

Annoying as others have said that it’s not on Platinum cards that we pay the most for.

  • Dominic says:

Nice surprise to find on my BAPP card given I have a Hilton booking next week!

  • NorthernLass says:

Got it on both BAPPs but not supps. I’ve been trying to decide between Hilton and IHG for our Vienna stay in July but I really liked the Hilton Vienna Plaza when I last visited so I think we’ll go for that – especially as the penthouse junior suite is coming up at £212 per night!

  • Alan says:

Nothing on my Plat. Still have the IHG offer on that and my Plat AC at least. Weird that my old Nectar Amex would get this yet my Plat gets rubbish like Krispy Kreme!

  • MikeL says:

Could be doing with some Hilton points to book a hotel in Sydney. Looked at topping up my balance but there’s no “buy points” offers at the moment. Any idea if and when the bonus will appear Rob ? Expensive otherwise.

    • Rob says:

A 100% bonus ended 2 weeks ago, so knowing Hilton I’d expect something else in the next couple of weeks!

      • Vit says:

Thanks Rob for the insight. Gearing up for our Japan trip end of the year as a position flight into BKK. Thinking of using the 5-4-4 rewards stay. Managed to use the amex travel £100 cb offer for our 3 nights in HKG on our back to the UK. 🙂

  • David S says:

On my BAPP but once again not a single hotel in Portugal. Why do some countries never participate in the offers ☹️

    • Rob says:

I’m guessing that, like Ireland, Amex doesn’t issue cards in Portugal?

      • Jose Marques says:

They do issue Amex through Banco Comercial Portugues

        • Rob says:

It’s not direct though, which probably explains why Amex hasn’t a team on the ground negotiating these deals.

          • TGLoyalty says:

Surely it’s negotiating these deals centrally with OHG Hilton Marriott not each management company / operator locally.

Must be some other reason Greece Portugal etc are always excluded

          • Rob says:

Doubt it. Ireland is another gap and Amex doesn’t operate there either.

  • flyforfun says:

Not on my BAPP card. 🙁 Nor the Ikea,Charles Tywrit or Emirates offer mentioned in today’s Moneysavingexpert newsletter. I rarely get an offer for a place I either spend money or at or likely to spend money at.

    • Rob says:

The science behind this is to use your previous spend history and geo location to suggest stuff you do want!

    • Andrew J says:

There seems little logic – I get offers from brands I spend at all the time, and offers I’ve never spent at, and then I’ll see offers mentioned here which I’ve never spent at and don’t get targeted and ones where I spend all the time and don’t get targeted.
