Hilton opens a Canopy hotel in Cannes

Cannes has a few good redemption hotels. Marriott has a JW Marriott on the seafront, Hyatt has the Martinez and IHG – as well as the Carlton – is opening a cheaper Staybridge Suites in November.

Hilton had nothing at all, so the opening of a brand new Canopy hotel by the port is welcome. It is apparently on the site of the old Radisson Blu hotel.

We’ve reviewed a few Canopy hotels recently – Canopy San Francisco was reviewed last week and we’ve also reviewed Canopy Austin and Canopy London City. It’s my favourite Hilton midscale brand, I think.

Canopy Cannes hotel

To quote:

With an unbeatable address, moments away from the port, Canopy by Hilton Cannes exemplifies the city’s relaxed chic in its design. The hotel features 129 guest rooms and suites, along with a further 12 apartments, most of which offer impressive views over the old harbour, La Croisette and the Lérins Islands. In collaboration with a prestigious jury of art experts and private collectors across the world, the hotel has invited twelve talented young artists to create unique artwork for each room. Contemporary artwork is complemented by Canopy by Hilton’s sophisticated comfort, including the brand’s signature canopy bed frame, exclusive bedding created just for Canopy by Hilton and thoughtful amenities like Canopy socks and Nespresso machines.

Canopy by Hilton Cannes features an indoor-outdoor heated swimming pool overlooking the sea and a fitness centre is accessible every day. Opening soon, the hotel will offer an indulgent spa, including five cabins, a hammam, a Japanese bath and sauna, where guests can revitalise and re-energise with a selection of face and body treatments.

This is good timing for me, as I am in Cannes in a fortnight to see IHG’s new luxurious Regent hotel, formerly InterContinental The Carlton Cannes. I will pop my head into the lobby of the Canopy whilst I’m there.

Anyone with experience of the Canopy in its previous guise as a Radisson Blu who can speak for how much is new?

  • Mikel says:

We were in Cannes a couple of days ago (on a cruise ship) and noticed the Hilton.. Great location too with beautiful views of the port area. I’ve never seen so many boats / super yachts in one place. The petit train tour is located across the road from the Hilton.50 mins for €19. Looking forward to your comments re the internal aspects of the hotel Rob

  • NorthernLass says:

Is there anything else to do in Billund for those of us who are a bit old for Lego?!

    • AL says:

      Not a huge amount. There’s a sculpture park, a zoo, and… er…

    • QwertyKnowsBest says:

Not a lot around Bilund, but airport is a short bus ride from a main railway station that connects you to the rest of Debamrk, including Copenhagen.

I think the MAN-BIL flight is a contracted service for a major company moving employees between thr two. Great flight experience BTW. Small aircraft, cockpit door left open for good views if in front row and fresh bread basket passed around by a friendly crew.

      • buchanan101 says:

It may be Astra Zeneca. They used to have flights with Sun Air from GOT-Cambridge-MAN – don’t know if they still do

Yes, great flights. One time at Gothenburg the crosswind was so great that I could see down the runway out of my cabin window

        • AT says:

They still do Cambridge – Gothenburg but not Manchester anymore.

          • CamFlyer says:

Doesn’t the aircraft originate in MAN? At least until the start of summer time, I would see an all white SunAir 328JET land into CBG, then take off again shortly afterwards, 2x daily. According to FlightRadar, it was MAN-CBG-GOT (and vice Versa).

    • ADS says:

i was wondering the same … more interested in a flight on a Dornier 328 than Billund itself / Legoland !

      • NorthernLass says:

Same here – though I’ve had a google and there are a couple of interesting places within a 30 minute drive, including a castle, 17th-century port city and a fjord! I am imagining very high prices for everything, though.

    • buchanan101 says:

Who is too old for Lego?

      Legoland maybe, but…

      Gothenburg OTOH is lovely…

      • Ant says:

If you’re into Lego but feel like Legoland isn’t your thing – Lego House (also in Billund) may be a better option.

I used to get the City – Billund flight most weeks. Billund is tiny but there is cheap hire car from the airport (use something like Kayak) or as someone said get the bus (direct from the airport) to Vejle where the trains are.

    • Yvo says:

      Truly, no.

A number of us stayed at Lalandia earlier this month and whilst pretending the entrance fees for Legoland were too steep to justify all the adults going in, a couple of us walked into town to have a beer.

      It was midweek at 2pm.

There was literally nowhere open to grab one.

  • DS says:

Billund-Gothenburg – On their website it says Aug. 30

Last flight dates before the summer break:
    14 July Billund-Gothenburg
    07 July Billund-London City Airport
    03 July Billund-Manchester

Dates of first flight after the summer break:
    30 August Billund-Gothenburg
    04 September Billund-London City Airport
    04 September Billund-Manchester

    https://www.sun-air.dk/en/timetable/?from=1514

    • Rob says:

SUN-AIR’s social feeds are saying 4th September! I think it tagged on to one of the UK flight into Billund.

  • JDB says:

Hopefully they can make something of the place as it is a great location but when it was the Radisson Blu and the incarnation before that, they really struggled to sell rooms, even in high season and there were people on the street with coupons for the rooftop bar/restaurant which they never made anything of. Cannes is lovely, but is something of a zoo in July/August or any of the big trade/film events so personally would only visit in the off season. Even in mid-winter, you might not want to sit on the beach (although many do) there is a high prospect of clear blue skies, although they do lead to cold evenings. Spring flowers cover the surrounding countryside starting in February with mimosa (many local towns have mid-Feb mimosa festivals).

    • Rob says:

Is it where the Radisson was? I’ve been in that rooftop bar, in fact I wrote about it years ago on HfP as a ‘secret tip’.

      • His Holyness says:

Yes. It is the Radisson. It’s a conversion.

      • JDB says:

Yes! You made me doubt myself – the building looks at bit different and the entrance has been moved more than once, but it is the same place at 2, Boulevard Jean Hibert. There’s a big car park opposite, between the port and the row of beaches, of which Okey beach used to be the best.

  • buchanan101 says:

Took the Sun Air flights from Cambridge to Gothenburg dozens of times whilst doing some work for Astra Zeneca. At one stage the flight was bookable by everyone, but then it became AZ employees and associates only. Great flights – so quick boarding etc. Gothenburg is a great airport.

    • NorthernLass says:

I’d rather visit Gothenburg but there’s no word on whether that will be available from MAN again.

  • Danny says:

Just saw Alex Macheras on the news, thought we had all seen the last of his narcissistic smugness

  • TeesTraveller says:

Sun-Air is a great airline. Last one I did with them was Stockholm Bromma – Aarhus, unfortunately the plane went tech some time before the flight so another firm was subcontracted to fly the route on their behalf. Good fun flying in a 19 seat Fairchild Metroliner, face-to-face flight briefing by the captain and for refreshments, the coffee pot was passed down the aisle from passenger to passenger. Tier points posted promptly too!
