Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

It’s April – you’re now in your British Airways tier point transitional year

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

As we have covered extensively on Head for Points, British Airways will be moving everyone onto aligned tier point collection years from 1st April 2025.

The official British Airways page announcing the changes is here.

The period from yesterday (1st April 2024) to a variable date depending on your year end is a transitional period. Any tier points you earn from yesterday will count twice – once in your current membership year and once in a (theoretical) membership year which runs from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025.

you're now in your BA tier point transitional year

Importantly, you can earn or renew your British Airways status by collecting the required number of tier points in EITHER your actual current membership year or the new (theoretical) 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025 year.

We have updated our month by month guide to show you how the new transitional period impacts you based on your British Airways Executive Club month end. This is as clear as we can make it! For more information, go back to our original article on the changes.

The first ‘Tier Point Adjustment’ is due to be made soon after 9th April 2024, to those with an 8th April year end. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to post and whether it is accurate.

Ending in April 2024

For obvious reasons, given that everyone is being aligned on 31st March going forward, these people see the least impact from the changes.

So mrs Hampshire Hogs soft landing will be about as edifying as the last efforts on the moon, arse over tit hers will end March 2025 and not October, quite un chuffed

    • Deek says:

Look at the bright side – I’d get only 2 months of soft landing instead of 12 if I did no further travel!

      • HampshireHog says:

I think it was the dark side actually if I recall correctly?

        • Deek says:

I’m trying to lift Mrs HH spirits by pointing out it’s worse over here! Agreed tho, it’s a bladdy annoying situation.

  • Andrew says:

    Thanks for the info Rob.

I flew a BA Hols journey at the end of March 2024. Half credited on 29th March, the remainder on 2nd April. The double points are yet to credit but they should appear in April. Do you think that the points credited in April but flown in March will be re credited? I hope so!

    • CheshirePete says:

I’m similar. Out March 23rd back yesterday Apr 1st. I’m assuming the doubling for both will credit after 14 days hopefully and both will roll rather than just my return. My outbound flight posted in March anyhow pre 1st April.

  • Harry Holden says:

Have BA confirmed (or decided for themselves yet) if the carry over credits will count towards ongoing awards like GUF2 vouchers?

    • Manar says:

This is what I’m most interested in. I searched/read widely and mobody seems to have an answer.

  • DA says:

    Rob,
Can you please clarify the four BA qualifying flights issue. My wife will re-qualify in Dec 2024, but 2 of her 4 BA flights were prior to April 1, 2024. Between Dec ’24 & Mar ’25 she can only fit in a couple of AA flights which will allow her to re-qualify on Apr 1, ’25. Does she need more BA flights to satisfy the “qualifying” rule, or will her 4 BA flights before Dec ’24 suffice?

    • Rob says:

If she has 4 cash sectors in the 9 Dec to 8 Dec year then she requalifies to 30 Jan 26.

      • DA says:

        Rob,
If I understand you correctly, it is NOT necessary to have any BA flights in the Tier Point Adjustment period as long as four of them were flown as cash sectors in the 12 months before that period. Am I correct?

        • Skywalker says:

          @DA – https://www.britishairways.com/content/executive-club/about-the-club/tiers-and-benefits/about-tier-points

“Eligible flights are defined as those flights marketed or operated by British Airways and those flights marketed and operated by Iberia.

‘Marketed’ means the flight will have a BA flight number (in your itinerary or on your ticket).
‘Operated’ means the aircraft that you travel on is a British Airways aircraft (including franchises and BA CityFlyer).
‘Marketed and operated by Iberia’ means the flight will have an IB flight number and the aircraft you travel on is an Iberia aircraft (including franchises).
Reward bookings and agency or industry-discounted bookings are not eligible.”

  • Encblue says:

Im presently a September TP renewal. I will trigger Gold Status before my Sept renewal date, am I reading correctly, I’d then retain Gold until Oct 25 (Or am I misreading the situation?)
