Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Interesting Avios deals if you need a hotel in Scandinavia or Finland

Back in March, Finnair adopted Avios as its reward currency. We are still waiting for the ability to transfer Avios to/from British Airways Executive Club which was promised for ‘May or June’.

We’ve been holding off doing a deep dive into the sweet spots of Finnair Plus because, frankly, there’s little value in doing so until you can move your Avios across. However, I wanted to flag two hotel deals.

Using Avios at Scandic and Sokos hotels

This article from US site Frequent Miler highlights how using Avios for redemptions at Sokos and Scandic hotels in Finland, Estonia and Scandinavia can be great value. We’re talking 2p+ per Avios on a good day.

Unlike other Finnair hotel partners, Scandic and Sokos let you check availability for Avios redemptions before you order a voucher. You have no risk of being stuck with a voucher you can’t use on your preferred date.

Remember that American Express Membership Rewards points transfer 1:1 into Finnair Plus Avios so you could move some Amex points across to take advantage. If you don’t have Amex points you’ll need to wait a few weeks for Avios transfers from BA to go live.

Great value this weekend staying in Copenhagen with the Finnair vouchers. Transferred 4000 avios from my UK biz AMEX Gold. Thanks for the heads up!
