If you want a weekend break with a difference, there is something waiting for you in Tenby in Pembrokeshire.

Apple Camping has a unique USP – each of its glamping units is, to put it mildly, unique. One is called ‘The UFO Experience’ ….

The company has now added an ex-Etihad A320 aircraft to its roster, image above. To quote:

Spend the night in an Etihad A320 - in Tenby

This aviation marvel has been thoughtfully converted into a self-contained sanctuary that retains its majestic air travel charm while introducing comforts and luxuries for a stay that’s anything but ordinary.

As you step inside, you’re greeted by an open-plan living space, ingeniously crafted within the original fuselage. Here, two single beds and a convertible sofa bed promise restful slumbers, complemented by the cozy ambiance of a space that’s been both newly carpeted and thoroughly insulated—ensuring warmth and comfort no matter the season. The interior boasts a fully-equipped kitchen, ingeniously integrated amidst authentic aircraft features, including operational cabin doors, Etihad and Air France branded storage, and aisle dolly trolleys, blending culinary convenience with a dash of novelty.

Our Airbus extends its allure to the lavatories, where one has been transformed into a modern shower with hot water, while the other maintains its original purpose, complete with charming details like Arabic signage, a nod to its globetrotting past. The living area, bathed in natural light from 26 windows equipped with original pull-down blinds, invites relaxation with a coffee table and Freeview T.V., all under the soft glow of converted overhead compartment lights.

Step outside to discover a haven designed for alfresco enjoyment and intimate starlit evenings. The aircraft’s front opens onto a deck with expansive double-glazed windows and a glass door, leading to a west-facing outdoor area ideal for savoring the sunset with a drink in hand. For privacy or shade, blackout blinds are ready to deploy at a moment’s notice. Nearby, the ‘Arabian Nights’ outdoor seating area, sheltered and adorned with a desert mural, offers a secluded spot for dining or unwinding, enveloped in the captivating ambiance of distant lands.

It is priced at £199 per night (£50 surcharge for one night stays) and you can book here.

Yes the music is annoying and yes the constant “enjoy your holiday” is annoying when you are going on a 6am work trip but never have I had crew remember me a week later or be so perky at 6am.

  • SamG says:

It’s an interesting move by them – relatively last minute by their standards and they’re doing a lot of “W” flying from other bases which isn’t something they’ve done before. Presumably the slots came up and they jumped in as particularly morning outbound slots are in limited supply!

I’ve flown with them a couple of times – love the English brekkie ! Reminds me of flying Monarch in the 90s

    • strickers says:

Yep, two based aircraft and W patterns for the rest of the routes. I work for Jet2.com and I didn’t see this coming!

  • Ian says:

Can’t say I will ever use them.

    Can’t think of anything worse!

Although maybe being served brunch or supper in business by BA might come close!

    • Alex G says:

      Wizz? Ryanair?

    • apbj says:

Operationally, and as a business, Jet2 is leagues ahead of British Airways never mind Wizzair etc. To avoid them based on snobbery is extremely stupid.

    • Michael says:

Book their up front seats and you are likely to get a bit of space around you. CE for much less!

  • Tracey says:

What is there to do in Tenby?

  • David S says:

I’m pleasantly surprised by the nice comments and wish BA would learn from Jet2

  • r* says:

Do jet2 actively split up passengers on the same booking around the plane unless they have paid for seats, like wizz and ryanair?

    • Trickster says:

No, not in experience. We have sometimes paid for seats, but when we’ve not we (party of 3) have been sat together

    • MrHandBaggageOnly says:

We’ve flown with them on eight occasions (4 x rtn) as a family of four (with children old enough to be seated away from us) and have never paid for seat reservations. On only two of those do I remember not being seated together and even then we were all close by. They are not like Ryanair, punishing you by seating you at opposite ends for not paying for seat reservations (in my experience).

  • Stephen says:

Jet2 is incredibly well run with high levels of service, generally reliable and lots of repeat customers. Always our first choice for package holidays and if we lived nearer Stansted would use them for a range of other trips. Key thing is at Stansted they use all their own staff for every element – check in, baggage handling etc and the staff are incredibly friendly, professional and helpful.

    • Trickster says:

They also have really good own staff presence at destination airports too; not something that you can say about other airlines/package operators

  • vlcnc says:

I think also their big moneyspinner is actually their bundled Jet2Holidays offering which has been immensely successful to the point easyJet is now trying do a big push with their version. I often find as a result their standalone flight tickets tend to be quite expensive – at least when I looked earlier this year. It feels like as a result they want you to buy their bundled packages rather than flights on their own.
