When do your Radisson Rewards hotel points expire? How can you stop it?

I receive occasional emails from readers asking ‘How can I stop my Radisson Rewards points from expiring?’ or ‘When do my Radisson Rewards points expire?’. This series, which we are updating this week, looks at the major hotel loyalty programmes and shows you how to keep your valuable points intact.

If you need to refer to this article in the future, there is a link to it on our ‘Hotel Offers’ page in the Radisson Rewards section. This also includes details of current Radisson Rewards promotions.

About Radisson Rewards

Radisson Rewards is the hotel loyalty scheme for Radisson Blu, Radisson Red, Radisson Collection, Park Inn, Park Plaza and Country Inns & Suites hotels outside of North America.

Inside North America, the Radisson brands are now owned by Choice Hotels.

When do Radisson Rewards points expire?

According to the Radisson Rewards terms and conditions here under 5e:

If there is no points activity in your Radisson Rewards or Radisson Rewards for Bookers and Planners account for any 24-month period, we may, at any time and in our sole discretion and without notice or liability to you, void and cancel any or all of your points.

What do they mean by ‘activity’?

The key point is that you do not need to stay at a hotel to keep your points alive. You simply need to have some activity go through your account.

When do your Radisson Rewards points expire?

There are various ways of achieving this:

Earning Radisson Rewards points:

It does not appear that you can earn points via food and drink spend in a Radisson Rewards hotel if you are not a registered guest.

(NOTE: When we ran this article in 2024, a reader told us that – despite buying points – he later received emails saying that his points were going to expire. It isn’t clear how this could be the case, given the T&C wording I quote above, but I thought we should mention it.)

Spending Radisson Rewards points:

Any movement on your account should cause your expiry date to reset.

  • Use points to part-pay your next Radisson Rewards booking – you can use as few as 10 points. If you book a flexible room and then cancel it, this should count as activity, in my opinion, but of course you try this at your own risk
  • Radisson Rewards has a number of charity partners on their website who accept donations of points. The minimum donation is 3,000 points.

There is no excuse at all for letting Radisson Rewards points expire.  The easiest option is to transfer the minimum three American Express Membership Rewards points over to your Radisson Rewards account.

How to be notified of upcoming miles and points expiry dates

If you want to track the expiry dates of all of your miles and points, I recommend signing up to AwardWallet for free. It keeps all of your points balances, including non-travel loyalty schemes, in one place and updates them automatically.

If you pay for the premium version ($30 per year) it also tracks your all expiry dates and emails you when points are about to expire.  On the free plan, you can track the expiry date for three loyalty schemes of your choice.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (February 2025)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.

We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here. You can apply here.

Got a small business?

You can get free top-tier Radisson Rewards VIP status with the new Capital on Tap Pro Visa credit card for small business. Clck here to apply.

“When do your Radisson Rewards points expire? How can you stop it?”

Does anyone care about Radisson anymore? I don’t think I’ve stayed in one since they changed the scheme.

    • degsy says:

Me neither. I certainly don’t care – I donated my outstanding points balance of nearly two years to the Valencia flood victims last week, which I found very satisfying.

    • Wally1976 says:

I’m still running down my balance..

      • Rob says:

I suspect you will all move back to Radisson because they are determined to give away VIP status via any potential route, eg Club Avolta members are all getting it, Capital On Tap is giving it out to Pro cardholders etc.

They know the points are worthless now so they think they can only get frequent travellers back by throwing top tier status at them. Given you get a 2-level upgrade and free breakfast, it might work.

        • Josh says:

Does anyone know when the Club Avolta status match is due to launch? Got an upcoming stay I’m keen to have this ready for!

  • AndyGWP says:

Is there a trick for linking your Amex account?

Tried a few times and it keeps erroring – does your membership number need 0’s prefixing it or anything?

    • Joe says:

I had the same problem. I did it through Amex Chat in the end which was relatively painless

    • BBbetter says:

There is a difference in the number of characters accepted. Try removing either the first or last 6 digits.

      • AndyGWP says:

thanks – will give that a go later…. if all else fails, I’ll go the chat route :/

      • Wally1976 says:

Pretty sure it’s the first 6 digits. Or maybe 5. I’ve got a note on my laptop, I’ll try and remember to have a look when I’m back.

  • Nick says:

Any thoughts on how to get re-upgraded to Premium tier? Amex plat says still registered but Radisson downgraded it and won’t budge… Does it need a FOS complaint to get things moving?

  • Thomas K says:

    This:

    “Buy Radisson Rewards points”

Is incorrect, I bought the minimum amount of Points and a few months later I still got a notice saying “your points will expire in 60 days”

    • Rob says:

Thanks Thomas. Very odd – this isn’t how I would read the rules. I will update though.
