Tesco Clubcard adds easyJet Holidays as a redemption partner

Tesco Clubcard has become less and less useful for frequent flyers in recent years. The key blow was Avios defecting to Nectar, of course, but the scheme has also lost many of its other interesting partners including Hilton and Uber.

Virgin Flying Club remains a partner (100 Clubcard points = 200 Virgin Points) but that’s about it.

A new travel option has now appeared – easyJet Holidays.

Tesco Clubcard adds easyJet Holidays as a redemption partner

easyJet Holidays follows the usual Tesco format. £1 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers gets you £2 to spend at easyJet Holidays.

What is interesting is how it is structured. Clubcard deals often force you to book uncompetitive rates in order to use your vouchers, but this is not the case here.

This is how it works (cut and pasted from the Tesco site here):

  • Your Clubcard vouchers are exchanged for ‘easyJet Holidays credit’, which is shown automatically in the ‘credit balance’ section of your easyJet Holidays account, called ‘Tesco Clubcard’ credit
  • Your easyJet Holidays account email address must match the one you use for your Tesco Clubcard account
  • Your easyJet Holidays credit is valid for six months from the date you exchange your Clubcard vouchers. Any unused credit will not be refunded, credited or exchanged, so only exchange the amount you need.
  • Within a 12 month period the maximum you can exchange is £300 in Clubcard vouchers (£600 easyJet Holidays credit). The 12 month period starts from the date you exchange your Clubcard vouchers for easyJet Holidays credit.
  • You cannot use your easyJet Holidays credit to book standalone easyJet flights
  • You must be one of the travel party on the holiday booking. You cannot share, combine or pool your easyJet Holidays account(s), or credit with other family members or friends.

This means, I think, that you can book any offer or promotion that easyJet Holidays is offering. The credit sitting in your easyJet Holidays account will be automatically used against the balance. The only restriction is that you cannot book via any cashback or reward site.

It isn’t clear if you can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers to pay the balance of an existing easyJet Holidays booking. The implication is that you cannot but this may not be the case in practice.

Don’t forget the American Express cashback deal

American Express has a generous cashback deal with easyJet Holidays although it ends in two weeks.

Until 22nd December, you will receive £200 back when you spend £1,000.

Note that the closing date has been extended from the original end date of the 12th.

Oddly, I received this deal on my Business Platinum card, even though Amex can get difficult with you if it sees obvious non-business spend going through your Business Platinum or Business Gold account! It is also on various personal cards across my family.

As usual, if you see the offer under one of your cards in the Amex app or on the website, you have to click ‘Save to Card’ before making your purchase.

Thanks to Paul for this.

I would consider it if it work for flight only, but not for a ‘holiday’. I never book flight and hotel together.

Potentially short-sighted. I’ve had some incredible hotel and car hire bargains by using BA and Easyjet holidays.

Should add to the “bargains” comment that the Easyjet holidays reps are SUPER helpful at sorting stuff out if hotel or car hire operators screw up.
