IHG One Rewards has announced a new global promotion following a fallow few weeks.

You need to register here. A bit of thinking is involved because you need to choose between TWO different options.

IHG One Rewards is the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo among other brands.

How does IHG’s new bonus points promotion work?

The offer runs from 20th May to 31st August 2025.

You must register in advance via this link. Registration is now open.

You can learn more about IHG One Rewards in our overview article here.

What will you earn?

It’s up to you, interestingly. You can choose from two options:

  • 2,000 bonus points for every two cash nights or
  • 8,000 bonus points for every four cash nights

Once you’ve made your decision, you cannot change it.

Reward stays do not count.

Existing bookings DO count so there is no need to rebook anything.  Only one room per stay counts towards the offer, so if you are booking multiple rooms you should put each in a different name.

Which option is best?

For those who do a lot of hotel stays, this isn’t a tricky choice. You are better off with ‘8,000 points for every four nights’ rather than ‘2,000 points for every two nights’.

(Interestingly, last time this offer ran, the alternative was 10,000 points for every four nights.)

Let’s say you ended up with seven nights, and on 31st August you were kicking yourself for not triggering the 8th night. You would still be better off than if you’d chosen ‘2,000 points for two nights’, as seven nights earns 6,000 points under the first option and 8,000 points under the 2nd.

The only people who should choose ‘2,000 points for every two nights’ are those who are fairly confident they will only complete two or three paid nights during the period from 20th May to 31st August.

Even then …. if you were confident of doing three nights, you might be tempted to register for ‘8,000 points every four nights’ on the basis that something is likely to come up. You are only gambling 2,000 points and could potentially gain an extra 4,000.

What is the bonus worth?

The standard earning rate in IHG One Rewards is 10 points per US$1 (80p) excluding taxes.  I value an IHG One Rewards point at 0.4p although you can often do better, which means your base return is 4p per 80p spent, ie 5.0%.

Of course, most HfP readers will have some sort of IHG One Rewards status.  This comes with a status bonus (applies to base points only):

  • 20% bonus for Silver Elite
  • 40% bonus for Gold Elite
  • 60% bonus for Platinum Elite
  • 100% bonus for Diamond Elite

Under this offer, and assuming you do an exact multiple of two or four nights:

  • you get an extra 1,000 points (£4) per night with the ‘2,000 points for every two nights’ offer
  • you get an extra 2,000 points (£8) per night with the ‘8,000 points for every four nights’ offer

This means that the offer is heavily geared towards people doing low value stays at, say, Holiday Inn Express-style hotels. There isn’t much here for anyone planning a week at InterContinental Maldives.

Conclusion

If you can do four nights, or a multiple of four, over the 13 weeks that this promotion is running, you will do OK. Bonus points worth £8 per night are not to be sniffed at, especially on low cost stays.

  • John says:

I got a misleading email which offered the 8k for 4, and I clicked the register in 1-click button even though in the back of my mind I had an inkling there might be two options.

After seeing this article I went back to the email and the 2k for 2 option is there but just as a footnote.

I was probably only going to do 3 nights in this period so am slightly annoyed, however Rob may be right that something will come up.

Separately I received a personalised offer of 3k for 1 night so maybe I will just do one night.

    • Andrew J says:

+1. I hadn’t seen that smaller mention of the 2K option, although I would have still selected 8k as it works for me.

    • Gordon says:

My email was the opposite way round, 2k as the header, and 8k further down, but not hidden, both as bold as brass!

      • LittleNick says:

Exactly the same as me, I would have preferred the 8k option but stuck with 2! Grrgh

  • SydneySwan says:

    I only received the 2k * 2 night option.

  • Alan says:

If I check out on 20th will the nights until that point be included?

    • John says:

No (assuming you mean 20th May)

If you check out on 21st May only one night will count, regardless of when the stay started

  • tootsci says:

OT but related – how often does IHG do a bonus elite night promo and is it always targeted? My searches seem to suggest not often and yes?

I estimate that I’ll be in the low to mid 30s for nights by the end of this year and as, with exception of a couple of Indigo/IC stays, they are all HI/HIX I won’t get enough qualifying points for Plat but would need to do it by nights. A bonus night promo rather than a points promo would therefore by very handy for me

    • John says:

Buy 5000 bonus point packages or pay for Ambassador

      • tootsci says:

Yes have Amb for this year, had forgotten about the ability to buy qualifying points when booking a stay, thanks for the reminder. I normally just click past but could factor that in towards the end of the year if I need to

        • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

Remember you can only buy qualifying bonus point packages with Best Flexible Rates.

Also buying Plat means you won’t earn the One Rewards as those are earned via stays.

          • tootsci says:

Yes, good point I do make good use of the railcard rate whenever I can! I bought Amb so Plat for this year but am now doing enough nights this year to take the CSU at 20 nights and will probably take the F&B credit at 30. Would be good to make the 40 to renew Plat and then think about what 2 milestone rewards. Lounge pass likely not worth it for me. I’m not inclined to do ‘mattress runs’ to push for the 40 though so let’s see…

  • Lee says:

Wondering if I use an ambassador free night weekend would that still get me the 2000 points? (Nothing in Ts and Cs to suggest otherwise so registered anyway, thanks)

  • Scott says:

I signed up for the 8 nights yesterday. Not had the email as of yet.
Requalified for diamond this morning, so 8 nights+ by August isn’t going to be too hard, and I want to build up my balance for a decent bit of travelling….

  • tootsci says:

@Alan I doubt it, I think it will be based on check-in. For the last points promo which ended on 31/3, I checked in on 31/3 and out on 1/4 and got the points. I wasn’t sure if I would as I was checking out after the promo ended. Therefore, by similar logic I think you’d need to check in on the first day of this new promo not check out

    • John says:

As long as you are staying on a night within the period it will count, when you check in is irrelevant. A stay from 7-21 May should still count for one night

      • BP says:

Hope so. I have a stay from 19th to 22nd. I’m considering splitting it into two stays.

        • John says:

Well, if it doesn’t work like I think it does, splitting it will do nothing because they will still be combined into a single stay.

  • Alan says:

I just got the 8k for 4 nights one click offer.
