Which UK airport restaurants offer £18 credit to Priority Pass cardholders?

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Airport lounge access card Priority Pass is not just about lounges. It also has deals with many airport restaurants where you can receive a free or discounted meal by showing your Priority Pass card.

As I mentioned in our article on the Lloyds Bank World Elite Mastercard on Monday, which comes with a Priority Pass offering restaurant credits, I promised to update our list of participating UK airport restaurants.

At any of these restaurants, you will receive £18 credit towards a meal or drinks. If your Priority Pass allows a free guest and you arrive with someone else, you will receive a £36 credit between you.

Unfortunately these deals are NOT available to anyone who gets their Priority Pass via American Express. It is available to anyone who gets their pass directly from Priority Pass or via the £15 per month Lloyds Bank World Elite Mastercard.

It is also available on cards with stricter eligibility requirements such as the HSBC Premier World Elite Mastercard (requires a HSBC Premier current account) or the Capital on Tap Pro Visa card (for Limited Company owners).

Remember that you could visit multiple sites on the same day if you wish, or visit a restaurant before or after visiting a lounge. Priority Pass has a grumpy warning on their website saying that you really shouldn’t do this but I’ve never heard of anyone getting into trouble ….

But if your Priority Pass is issued by American Express ….

There is only ONE restaurant globally that Amex-issued Priority Pass customers can use.

This is Pizza Express at London Gatwick’s South Terminal. Given that this is the British Airways terminal, it is at least convenient for most HfP readers.

There was a 2nd option, in Berlin, but it was removed a few weeks ago.

My best guess is that Priority Pass wants to charge American Express a higher fee for restaurant visits, as it pays out more than it pays a lounge operator, and that the two parties could not reach an agreement.

Unfortunately the chances of this changing are slim. Sentiment is going the other way – both Chase and Capital One in the US have recently banned restaurant visits from the Priority Pass cards they issue.

You can find out more about these Priority Pass options by searching for an airport via the Priority Pass website.

PS. Without wishing to state the obvious, you should not take part in any of these restaurant deals if you have a ‘pay per use’ or – if you’re not alone – a ‘pay for guests’ Priority Pass. The guest fee is now £24 and you are getting £18 of restaurant credit so you can see the problem!

  • Alan says:

Good luck getting anything at Bird & Signet in Glasgow. Their PP machine has been down for months, and even before that staff were refusing the PP because they didn’t know how to work the machine when the card wasn’t a PP card (I have HSBC World Elite). The only times it’s worked for me is when the staff member was willing to hand me the machine, and I processed the transaction myself. I reckon over the last 2 years my success rate there is below 20%. The place, just like the airport, is a shambles, which is a real shame given it’s my home airport.

    • HampshireHog says:

I thought you presented the PP virtual card QR code and not the underlying card?

      • Scotsman says:

A lot of staff don’t know how to work the terminal to scan even the QR code. Buts that redundant since, as OP stated, the terminal has been out of action for most of this year and they don’t seem keen to get it fixed in a hurry.

The lounges in Glasgow’s are poor also. Lomond, the best of the bunch, opening hours are useless unless you travel during working hours.

      • HampshireHog says:

Mine was more of a general Q rather than specific to Glasgow

        • Alan says:

There is a manual entry way, which is how I’ve managed to get it to work in the Bird & Signet, that involves typing in the credit card number and then scanning the boarding pass…..however that doesn’t work if the terminal isn’t working. I’ve emailed Priority Pass many times on this but they don’t take ownership, nor do SSP.

    • BP says:

Came here to say the same thing. They are useless in B&S – they should be removed from the scheme. If you have multiple cards or in my case lounge access vouchers from a delay then the staff don’t know how to process them and on a rare occasion they do they can’t combine multiple cards/vouchers for a single large order. Only once did they process all cards in one order without any issue and little delay.

    • numpty says:

Had the same experience at Bird and Signet, card machine was faulty for months, which then changed to not working at all, and ‘look I can’t get it to work’ – as if it was a recent problem. I actually recognize the staff member now as spent so much time mucking about with the ‘faulty’ card machine. Been handed the machine to do myself in the past (when it part worked). Most recently I wanted to complain to PP but couldn’t find anywhere to log a complaint.

Also on the most recent visit they suggested I pay normally and see if I could claim back from PP. Laugh.

I actually like Glasgow airport, it’s all pretty easy to get through. The New Mexican restaurant was good (great friendly staff).

  • John says:

Do any of the restaurants have a minimum spend ? I was “informed” that I had to spend £25 ( I think ) at Stansted to get the £18 reduced from the bill last year.

    • Rob says:

      No

      • Michael Jennings says:

I’ve often used it at The Camden Bar & Kitchen at Stansted, which is the only Stansted restaurant that takes it, and I have never had anything like that told to me. If they were doing that, I assume that they have been told to stop it.

What I find more amusing is that the staff often feel it is imperative that I get maximum possible value. “You have £4.30 left. Shame to waste it. Would you like a bag of crisps and a bottle of water for the flight?” This has happened at a few places, one of them being the CB&K at Stansted.

    • Inman says:

My usual habit is to buy a coffee at Stansted restaurant while waiting for the lounge. Never been asked for a minimum spend.
One one occasion, when I bought my coffee, the Indian-looking bloke at the till asked me to grab a few bags of crisps and snacks till the total came as close as possible to £18. Talk about customer service 🙂

  • Josh says:

Would I be correct in thinking that as my wife and I both hold a Plat (one is supplementary), and therefore a priority pass each – that we could visit Pizza Express with the 2 x children and receive £72 ( £18 x 4) off of the bill? (As each priority pass allows an additional guest)

    • Rob says:

      Correct.

      • LittleNick says:

Is it possible to get the £36 off the bill with just one person present? Do I ask for a table for two?

        • Rob says:

You’d need to incentivise the staff to put everything through as if 2 people are present.

  • trient says:

Shelby £ Co Bar & Kitchen is a £18 option at BHX

    • Rob says:

That’s a rebrand of one of the others isn’t it? I think the PP website is a bit behind.

  • Iain says:

Can use PP (from being an Amex Plat holder) to use the £18 Pizza Express AND access a proper lounge on the same day without additional cost?

    • Barrel for Scraping says:

Yes it’s possible. I’ve done it before. As Rob mentions it’s now discouraged via a warning on the PP site but I think you’ll be fine if you don’t exploit it too much. If a bunch of people start going to multiple restaurants + lounge hop each trip then they may crack down further but the occasional restaurant + lounge should be fine. If this changes I’m sure it’ll be mentioned here

      • Nico says:

I actually hope they change it. So many social media posts about people trying to visit all lounges and restaurants possible, cant really help PP being better for others

    • JDB says:

People seem to do this although Priority Pass seems to have introduced a term seeking to limit multiple visits by charging for the extra ones. I think it’s fair to say that it’s not really in the spirit of the product to visit more than one place. The rule, as ever, has probably been introduced because too many people are taking the mickey.

Priority Pass, payment card provider or other organisation may limit the number of times Customer can use their Means of Access to enter a Lounge or Merchant location within a time period and within the same arrival or departure location.

    • Andy says:

The restaurant credit is a means of alleviating some of the pressure on lounges – if you want to double-dip, don’t complain about lounge overcrowding. Personally, I want to get on the plane and leave as soon as possible. Rushing between (generally uninspiring) lounge spaces and gobbling dough balls elsewhere wouldn’t improve the experience (for me).

  • Yuff says:

Daughter is going to be travelling for a year and wondered which supplementary card is best in terms of lounge access and travel insurance.
I have the platinum Amex and HSBC WE cards, so can do either.
The travel insurance is more important to me, but I believe both are pretty good so then it would come down to which has the best priority pass use and I’m thinking HSBC…….

    • Axel says:

I doubt either cover for more than 30 days abroad for travelling but HSBC probably easier to use in SE Asia

    • David says:

I thought the maximum trip length was 90 days for AMEX Platinum. Would need to return to UK for that to reset

      • Yuff says:

I’ll need to dig deeper in the platinum insurance thread to check out the T & C’s

        • Yuff says:

Apparently on plat Amex travel insurance, children on a gap year can extend the cover period to 365 days.

    • Froggee says:

Does HSBC not come with the premier bank account rather than with the credit card?

I assume you have a premier account, in which case check whether your daughter is covered under the policy wording. Dependent children under 23. Only valid for 31 days but you can pay for 120. For a year you will need to buy a separate policy.

      https://www.hsbc.co.uk/insurance/products/premier-travel/

Not really one to mess up!

For lounge access, HSBC includes restaurants, Amex mainly does not. But Amex gives a guest, HSBC does not. HSBC will charge £60 for a supplementary card, Amex gives you the first free of charge.

  • Gerard says:

Cabin Bar in BRS will charge you +1 guest. There were two of us, with two PP cards, confirmed before getting table and confirm when paying that only 1x per card, no guest. Waiter even had the cheek to say he was well versed with the guest fee charge, but then lo and behold the £18 guest fee appears on my credit card a few days later. Called PP up, and was told they would waive the charge ‘this time only’ but it was my responsibility to make sure (???)

  • W says:

Use this a lot at big smoke taphouse at LHR. Usually I end up spending £10-£12 but last time was encouraged to add a few more items to reach the £18 which I declined.

I know this article focuses on UK but anyone know of airports in other European countries with dining benefit. I know of Stockholm and Oslo.

    • Jonathan says:

It’s not at all surprising that the HfP team focuses only really on UK airports for these types of reviews / informational reports, as if they were to list everywhere, it’d take up a huge chunk of time to complete, and it’d be largely irrelevant to most readers

Most HfP readers are UK based, so don’t forget to bear in mind this point, anyone who needs further clarification can always check PP themselves !

      • Gerry says:

Most readers are UK based, but fly internationally, so it would be helpful and relevant… I agree it would be nice to put together a list showing some of the options outside the UK (eg Europe and North America). Maybe AI or one of the readers can help if HFP doesn’t have enough capacity 🙂
