News in brief:

Get a 100% bonus when you buy IHG One Rewards points

Until Friday 13th June, you can buy IHG One Rewards points – the InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc hotel scheme – with a bonus of 100%.

The page to buy points is here.

The bonus kicks in with a minimum purchase of 11,000 points.

Unless you have been targetted for a different deal, the most you can buy is 200,000 + 200,000 bonus points, so 400,000 IHG points for $2,000.

You would be paying 0.37p per point on this basis. This is better than our target value of IHG One Rewards points of 0.4p and it isn’t difficult to beat 0.40p on a good day. If you have any hotel stays planned it is worth running the maths to see if buying IHG One Rewards points may be a better deal, especially as reward bookings are cancellable.

The offer runs until Friday. You can buy here.

citizenM hotel sale now on

Whilst citizenM hotels don’t offer a loyalty programme or miles in any airline scheme, they are popular with our readers due to their mix of low price and modern design.

We’ve been able to review some of their London hotels, including:

Following a growth spurt, you can now find them in Europe (Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Geneva, Glasgow, London, Paris, Rome, Rotterdam, Zurich), the US (Austin, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington), Taipei and Kuala Lumpur.

citizenM has launched its summer sale which runs to 18th June.

They have kept it simple:

  • rooms are discounted by 20% (30% for those with a paid membership)
  • there is 2-night minimum stay requirement
  • all hotels are taking part
  • sale bookings are fully flexible
  • you can book for any date up to 31st August

Whilst Marriott is in the process of buying citizenM, the acquisition will not complete for a number of months. For now, the company continues to operate independently and your stay will NOT earn Marriott Bonvoy points or elite night credits.

You can find out more on the citizenM website here.

Bonus kicks in at 11k x2 = 22k points, but the rate is not 0.37p (half a US cent) until you buy at least 26k x2 = 52k

    • The real Swiss Tony says:

Thank you for pointing that out. Was starting to assume Rob had used some very flakey exchange rate or my mental maths had gone down the toilet. If you want to buy 23k-25k points, you’re better off going for 26k….

    Promo code: 64971

Appears to be for “select accounts” but also appears to work if not targeted

Double status nights up to 10 bonus nights

  • Will says:

Is there any value left in IHG, I’ve not been able to find any for at least 18 months now.

    • Tom says:

Yes – points stays with IHG are significantly cheaper than with equivalent Hilton, and you also get cancellation.

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

Gaining outside value ended when they moved to dynamic pricing and ditched the fixed price redemption system.

Values do get better when they have a Diamond & Platinum members points offers such as save 15%.

  • Brian says:

Worth remembering that points stays are eligible for use of suite upgrade vouchers. So if you have a voucher to use up, it might be worth using points instead of cash advance rates, since you would have to buy the flexible rate otherwise.
