British Airways Manchester Gate 37 lounge update

As we covered on Saturday, the Escape lounge in Manchester Terminal 3 closed yesterday. From this morning, British Airways passengers are being sent to a new location.

Some people thought that the airport was reopening the old BMI lounge to serve British Airways passengers. Unfortunately not.

The second set of rumours have turned out to be correct. British Airways has taken over part of the gate area, in the dead end beyond Gate 37.

British Airways Manchester Gate 37 lounge update

I suspect it will be a bit like the ‘lounge’ that BA ran at London City for the (RIP) New York services, with a coffee machine, a drinks fridge, a plate of sandwiches and some biscuits. It can’t be much given that the area has no catering facilities. There are a set of toilets in that area which is a plus point.

By the time you read this, I suspect an early bird will have posted some photos on this Flyertalk thread.

This situation will continue until the autumn when British Airways will make its much delayed move across to Terminal 2.

Terminal 3 at Manchester will eventually become a dedicated low cost carrier terminal. The Escape lounge in Terminal 3 is seen as unnecessary given the LCC market.

  • Lawrence says:

I flew from Manchesterford for the first time since lockdowns 2 weeks ago. I am convinced someone is employed to make it as bad an airport as possible

Packed busy. Only way I got to check my bags in was an IT guy asked me if he could test a terminal he was fixing on me as the check in agent refused to look up from his texting. When I asked security if there was anywhere I could buy a coffee before checking in because the desk wasn’t open yet he looked at me as if I was mad.

I honestly don’t get why they have decided to make it even worse by closing the lounge, potentially 6 months before they move to T1, and replacing it with a roped off biscuit zone

  • SteveCroydon says:

If MAN T3 is to become exclusively for LCC’s, then why is BA moving to T2? Surely T3 would be BA’s spiritual home!

    • Lawrence says:

There is a degree of irony in that T3 was built initially as a BA& Domestic terminal only

  • SteveCroydon says:

Sorry, BA isn’t an LCC, they’re a HCC with low service standards (LSS).

  • Stuart says:

That’s annoying and typical! On Sunday I booked 3 Accor reservations that would have fulfilled the entry requirements but they are all non-refundable so cannot rebook them.

    • Stuart says:

And there was no sign of that promo on the app (nor the UK website front page) when I was book although it says it started on 1st June.

  • Pangolin says:

The Accor promo errors out for me: “A technical problem has stopped the offer from being activated. You may attempt again or return later.”

    • Pangolin says:

It looks like it’s targeted – it’s not showing on the Deals page where all the other offers are.

Also, there’s zero mention of it on FT or LL.

      • Rob says:

It is popping up for people on Facebook.

        • Stuart says:

That’s not on. So unless someone has a Facebook account then they not targeted/informed. We don’t all want an FB account no matter what Accor marketing think.

          • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

It’s called something differential marketing. The more you engage with a company in different ways the more offers you will be exposed to.

No doubt at other times an offer was emailed but not posted to Facebook.

    • Lady London says:

Be careful a frequent reason for so called technical error on Accor promo signups is Accor may have decided to block yourxaccoint for no good reason and without informing you.

  • Lee says:

Accor doesn’t seem to let me register, try to activate offer and nothing happens?
Ts and Cs don’t imply it’s targeted though …
“Participation in the Contest is open to all individuals from the ENA region*, aged 18 or older, who have internet access, a valid email address, and are existing members of Accor’s loyalty program”

  • Michael says:

For those having difficulty registering, it seems that Google Chrome is the culprit (as it so often appears to be!)

I couldn’t register using Chrome, but Safari worked perfectly.

  • JC says:

Not sure a lounge in T3 is ‘unnecessary’ tbh, considering it was always packed with people on Ryanair flights
