Sydney: LOTS of Avios seats in Club World showing for April to June 2026

A reader flagged this evening (Saturday) that a LOT of Avios availability in Club World is currently showing for April, May and June 2026.

On many dates you can get FOUR Club World seats.

Whilst its heading into winter, I’m sure demand is still there from the ‘friends and family’ market.

There is also a LOT of inbound Club World availability in September, October and November 2025, but virtually nothing in business class going out.

This is not ‘phantom’ availability as far as I can tell. Of course, by the time you look things could have changed from 10pm Saturday when I wrote this.

    Still plenty of availability this morning, though online journey keeps on crashing when trying to add a stopover in Singapore (either way). Called BA and all the inventory loaded is direct only. Not quite what I would have wanted but have actually managed to book reward seats to Sydney – something that I never thought that I would be able to do. Now we’ve got 10 months to plan and fund an itinerary!

    Hi HFP community. I’ve always wanted to travel business class to Sydney using my BA Amex Companion voucher which expires April 2026. There are business class flights available over the end of August 2025 as well as the ones in April to June 2026. I want to book a one way with a stopover in Singapore for a few days. The cost including my voucher is showing on BA website as 200,000 Avios and £1000.00 taxes for two people. I had some questions I was hoping the community can answer for me:
    a) Does this appear to be a good deal? I know its on BA and not a better Middle Eastern airline, but it still seems great for a business class flight at short notice (just when I need it actually lol).
    b) Can I add a return fare for example May 2026 at a later date when and if flights become available, by calling BA service desk to book the return. I think I’ve read on this site that is the process.
    c) If my companion voucher expires April 2026, does the return have to be booked and flown before then or can I book before April 2026 but fly in July 2026 for example.
    d) If my BA Gold loyalty membership level expires in December 2025, does this make any difference to being able to book the said return prior to April 2026?
    Any advice much appreciated.

      SydneyBound – my responses..
      a) generally anytime you can use miles for premium cabins and travel when you want to travel is a good deal. QR would maybe cost the same in miles, but no SIN stopover.
      b) you can add a return later when the availability is loaded if more than 12 months after your outbound / not loaded when booked, BUT..
      c) all travel has to be completed before the expiry of the voucher
      d) no. Gold opens extra economy seats, or the ability to open premium seats are double(i think) the normal miles. So unless you wanted to use many more miles, probably no difference.

        I’d say (b) Yes, but only before you have flown the outbound, so end August 2025 in your case, and (c) I believe you only have to have flown the outbound by the voucher expiry date.

        (C) is incorrect. Outbound must be before expiry date.
        (B) may 2026 flights for your return leg are already loaded. If you don’t book both legs together now, adding a return leg for May later would be a ‘change to the booking’ and you’ll have to pay a change fee.

          The process is also cancel and rebook (though staff won’t tell you) and you run the risk of your outbound not returning to the award inventory (real risk with popular destinations like Sydney), though it’s less of a problem if you’ve already flown the outbound.

    I was pleasantly surprised when I read this article first thing this morning. I hit 50 next June and always had it in my mind that I’d celebrate it down under using Avios collected over the years.

    So – began a frustrating morning at looking at the options (including travelling on QR with their better product). What I have found is:
    1. Off peak returns in Club from LHR are 145,000 Avios with AMEX solo discount and £775 fees.
    2. Adding a domestic connection from MAN is exactly the same price.
    3. Trying to reduce fees by departing DUB lowered the cash element to £608 but increased the Avios to 160,000 thereby wiping out the saving.
    4. Flying on QR is allegedly 90,000 Avios each way although availability of those tickets is extremely rare with the vast majority being 180,000. Their website is also very buggy leading to significant date trawling day by day and being caught in endless loops.
    5. Did manage to find a multi-city on QR flying from DUB and returning to LHR for June 2026 but at 270,000 (though only €300 in taxes), I wasn’t tempted.

    Ended up booking BA and then the expected 777 and Club Suite had turned into a Dreamliner and Old Club World. Finger is now hovering over the cancellation button and going back to square one.

      You can have this as a fall-back and just keep an eye out for offers. My preference would be grabbing a deal to Indonesia, spending some time there and then hopping on a daytime flight to Perth or something. You should be able to get change out of £2k for your tickets, with the long flights in business class and a bunch of miles for your troubles.

      In related news, I have seen that Vietnam Airlines are selling ex-BUD business fares to Australia and back for about €2800 all in. Those also come with enough XPs to bag you Flying Blue silver for a year.

      Mmmm…. a couple of days ago I booked a one way CW redemption with a 241 voucher for Sunday 5/4/26 (Easter Sunday) and the booking has been confirmed but now see (thanks for the heads up) that there’s no direct flight anymore for cash bookings. My confirmation says its a 787 (oh dear) but I’m now expecting this to be cancelled in due course … it would be bad luck if BA says there’s no other availability – how does this work in practice if BA cancels?

        They will have to reroute you to SYD, even if it means sending you on another airline. Obviously if you have no return leg booked, they will have no obligation to get you home!

    This article promoted me to have a look at redeeming some of my Avios stash. I booked Tokyo next year in business. The outbound with BA and return with AY via Hel which gives me an extra day as it a nighttime departure.
    Redeemed for 180k Avios+£510 – I spilt the trip into 2 different bookings as if I had selected the same itinerary on a single booking the surcharge was £727 and 180k Avios. Not sure what prompts the change in surcharge by splitting?

    A bit of a novice when it comes to Avios bookings so if there is any risk in having the trip on 2 separate bookings, someone please shout out.

    I just wanted some advise. Done this before but unsure if BA still operate like this. If I book the outward leg but cannot book return as the date isn’t available, do BA hold the first flight until you call back to complete the booking.

    I dont want to book a one way flight, as I wont have enough Avios for the return if I do it that way. Im sure they have done that before. I did call BA but they were quite unhelpful.

      No, you must book and pay for the outbound first and the call to book the return when there is availability or you have enough Avios. The price is the same as if you book both together (or sometimes cheaper as inbound taxes are less unless using an Amex voucher).
