I’m a fan of using the free functionality on ExpertFlyer. You need an account but can do about 5 searches per day for any scheduled flight.
Some airlines have different restrictions on viewing “on the day” seat maps.

Viewing BA in advance is fine, which would help if you are doing a dummy Avios booking.

Since the end of last year I get the below error message whilst checking BA flights for seat availability, I think I maybe read somewhere that BA has blocked access, I can still check AA etc, anyone else have this issue?

“An error has occurred while communicating with the airline reservation system. The support team has been notified of this problem. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

I don’t have any trouble with BA. That’s from T-355 all the way through to after a flight has departed. Sometimes I enter LON instead of LHR or LGW (you have to be specific) and flight number etc all has to match.
