Quite a hefty offer for staying at an Iberostar Beachfront Resort (outside Cuba) between 20/02 and 20/05 just landed in my inbox – 40k for 4 nights, can be triggered twice.
Terms and conditions don’t look restrictive unless I’m missing something, just need to be paid stays.
Couldn’t find the list of Beachfront Resorts in the T&Cs but the Iberostar site suggests there are 49. All being well my stay in Montenegro over Easter will trigger it and that’d be around a 50% return!
Are you going to Herceg Novi? I’m doing 10 days, but sadly in July so won’t trigger this offer. Be interested in your feedback on hotel if youre going there.
Any idea if points are elite qualifying, any recommendations for Spain hotels would be appreciated.

No they aren’t.

That is where we’re going, yes. First week of April for us and looks like it will only just have reopened but will let you know how we get on.
Anyone know if you have to book via ihg.com or do bookings via iberostar.com also qualify?

Yes that was my concern. I tried to place an order via ihg.com but got an error. I probably need to contact them
I booked 8 nights separately in Cadiz and Palma.
60%-80% points return and also boost towards 40N.Just booked Iberostar Bouganville Playa in Tenerife for 8 nights, cracking deal if it works as I often buy IHG points so this will work out £50 per night after deducting the value of the bonus points!

I had a similar issue with ihg not working – I have booked via iberostar.com and believe it should be fine as the IHG T&Cs explicitly state that rates booked there are qualifying rates. I don’t know why the IHG app and website still seems to be broken for iberostar hotels though!
I checked out after a 7 night Iberostar stay yesterday.
Booked direct with Iberostar last July.
Registered separately for this offer when it was emailed to me.
No points in my account yet.
Have some patience!
Even for a normal stay no points would post until tomorrow morning.
I find it can take a couple of days for IHG to post.
My anxiety is based on the fact it was never showing in the IHG app as an upcoming stay and nor is it showing now as a past stay.
However the hotel have confirmed in writing my IHG number was on the booking so fingers crossed.
Got the points and the bonus. Result! Still not showing in my previous stats but the points are the main thing
Had this offer marketed to me at least 4 separate times.
Each time it’s annoying as it looks like a return to the decent days of offers in IHG’s loyalty program. So i open it and once again it’s for Iberostar Hotels only – a type of hotel I am simply not interested in.
This promotion being sent again and again when there’s clearly no interest from me and nothing in my profile or history that would make me appropriate to target, is just annoying and stopping me looking at IHG hotels for other bookings.
@NigelHamilton – just back from Herceg Novi and can give you a few thoughts.
Overall, really enjoyed it. Location is a huge plus point – the Bay of Kotor is stunning and the hotel’s spot on it is a good one. If you’re up early you may see dolphins playing in the hotel’s bay. The only problem we had with it is there isn’t much walking to be done from the hotel, but Herceg Novi has a lovely town and promenade and the water taxi runs 10 or so times a day (and a free hotel shuttle bus 2 or 3 times). Water taxi takes just over 10 minutes, and is 5 Euros each way, cash only.
As a diamond we were given a priority sea view room (one category upgrade I think) which was on the level where the pool, restaurant, bars etc were. A short walk to the beach bar. The other blocks were further up the hill and anyone with mobility issues may struggle as it’s fairly steep.
Rooms what you’d expect I think – smallish but clean, comfortable beds, decent shower. No coffee / kettle in the room or anything in the fridge so if you want a drink of anything it means a wander to the nearest bar.
Food was all buffet but it was OK. Enough of a turnover to mean it was generally hot, though once in a while something was lukewarm. Fruit and salad really good, meat and cooked veg trial and error but as I say could find something that was OK. Fish was good.
Drinks options were also fine. Local beer and wine on tap as were the soft drinks, with spirits and cocktails part of the package. Spirits were either local brands or the likes of Gordons. Did see some folk ask for and get bottles of wine, but not sure if they were an additional cost.
Beach is very small but I’m sure in July the sea will be a lovely temperature. It (along with the pool) was too cold while we were there for more than a few hardy soles.
The rooftop bar wasn’t open (think it’s too chilly in the evenings right now) but everything else was.
Staff absolutely great. Early season (opened on 1st April) so just getting going, some new staff picking things up but all very friendly and helpful. Seemed to genuinely enjoy interacting with the kids and there were a lot of them as well – very rarely queued for anything. We didn’t join in too much with entertainment – our kids are too old for the day time stuff and it was too chilly to sit out in the evenings – fair play to them for putting singers / DJs on. The inside bar is quite small and got quite full for us due to the cooler evenings but I’m sure in the summer the pool bar area will be a great place to sit out.
Boat trips are available from the hotel and seem to be the same price as you’d get elsewhere. We went to Pravast, Lady of the Rocks and Kotor – 7 hours or so in total for 35 Euros (cash or card). Absolutely beautiful and again, great staff on the boat.
Other options from the hotel were a coach trip to Dubrovnik and Blue Cave / Submarine tunnel on bat. We would have done those if we’d been there more than 4 days. I think there may be more options offered in the summer – for example some stops for ocean swimming weren’t offered as it’s too cold right now.
Not sure where you are flying into / from, but if it’s Tivat then get there as late as you can for the return trip. There is a cafe landside and a small duty free shop / lounge airside. That’s it. They actively advise you to stay landside until the plane is about to board. We went into the lounge with priority pass but there’s no food, only hot drinks and a fridge with soft drinks, wine and a small selection of beer. It’s more pleasant than sitting by the gates but that’s about it.
Beach towels need a 15 euro deposit in cash, safe is 3.50 euros a day (though they threw that in for us, I think as a diamond but may have been as an apology for the slight delay in checking in due to being looked after by a new staff member).
I’m sure I’ve missed stuff so fire any questions my way. There will be some differences in July, not least the heat, but I can tell you what we saw.
Will now see if the points for the 40k offer (plus the 2k for 2 nights, 4k for 4 nights) get posted. The receptionist went through all the right options for a diamond member but obviously only the welcome points make sense in an all-inclusive, but they’ve not arrived yet.
@LeeG that’s really comprehensive, thanks so much! The only thing I’m really doing differently (apart from the time of year, no IHG status and going as a family of five) is that we’re hiring a car (flying into Dubrovnik). I’ve seen mixed messages as to whether the parking is free or not – do you know?
We’ve gone for one priority sea view room and one suite for the three (teenage) kids, so two questions on this – how good is the sea view and do you know if there are suites in the same block?
Again, thanks for writing such comprehensive info – am looking forward to this!

+1. Except it must be approaching 10 times now. Once or twice, fine, but for Pete’s sake can they not take a hint!?!
@NigelHamilton – not sure about the parking, sorry. Didn’t notice anything obvious about charging on the arrival info leaflet or in reception, but as we didn’t have a car I wasn’t looking out for it.
There didn’t seem to be much parking space, but there may have been more elsewhere that wasn’t in obvious sight.
Assuming you get the same or similar room as we did, the view from the priority sea view is glorious. You can see across to Herceg Novi and down the bay to Tivat, with the background of the mountains. The restaurant blocks the view to the left a little, but that’s really not a problem.
In terms of suites I think one room of the 6 on each floor in the block we were in was a suite – they had a bigger balcony and a swing seat. Can’t be absolutely sure though, from the corridor there was nothing unique about them.
Brief update.
After checking out on Sunday my account showed this as a non-qualifying stay today. Having looked at the T&Cs around why that could be I couldn’t see a reason as I booked it through the Iberostar website so started a chat to see what was going on.
While I was chatting to the agent updates started to come through and the stay has been manually adjusted to reflect the base points, status bonus points and the various promotions that apply, so looks like the Iberostar integration isn’t fully in place but they have workarounds.
All in got just under half the holiday cost back in points and double elite nights – most satisfactory!
