In recognition of your loyalty to us I would like to offer an exclusive Offer. If you spend £15,000 in the next 6 months you will get a £50 statement credit. This will be added to your Account once spend has been made. This could help to offset the fee increase which will be applied on your next card anniversary date after 1st Aug 2024.
• This statement credit is in addition to your standard Avios earn rate, where you will collect 22,500 Avios from this spend.
• You don’t need to take any action, if you accept this Offer, I will enrol you now.Dissapointing….
Cancelled earlier this week, offered nothing (I didn’t ask nor was I seeking anything)
Bizarrely, this morning two brand new 241 vouchers were credited to my BAEC account. Perhaps a BA IT blip somehow triggered by the cancellation? At any rate I am sure they will disappear again in short order…
Same offer for me a few days ago – asked if there was anything more generous (e.g. 10-15k Avios for a certain spend), but was told that was all they could do…takes the edge off the fee increase I guess

Mines coming up 14th Feb, is it best to ask before the renewal date or wait for it to show on statement.?
2 year platinum anniversary is in August so will be looking to trade up then. Could do with scoring another 2:4:1 before then Though as using my last one in April.
offered 10k avios for 5k spend in 6 months
offered 10k avios for 5k spend in 6 months
same today
offered 10k avios for 5k spend in 6 months
This was player 2. I was offered nothing so cancelled. Surprised no offer made but we don’t need 2 BA cards at the moment

same today
got the same today

Same here, though the route to get there was interesting:
– the agent’s first proposal was to downgrade me to the blue card
– I said yes, that was indeed what I was thinking of, but did they have anything else for me to consider
– they came back and told me that in fact “after checking my account. the offer to downgrade is not available” and then they proposed the 10K Avois for 5K spend instead.Which is fine, but does alert me to the fact I am trapped on the expensive card if I want to stay technically eligible to use my existing 2-for-1 voucher. (I know that’s not the way it works in practice.) Certainly it assuages any guilt I might have felt about squeezing a retention offer out of them…
I’m idly interested what the commercial logic of it is. I’ve never downgraded or upgraded, and the conversation was in the context of my annual fee being shortly due, so it can’t be that they think I’m playing the game to avoid fees. And if it’s just that for whatever reason I don’t qualify for the blue card, it’s weird that they are keen to keep me on the black one.
@R76 – Amex works in weird and wonderful ways, often it gives as you have experienced today and sometimes it takes away, but always without any apparent rhyme or reason.
I’ve seen posts before from people saying they were refused a downgrade over the phone, but if you apply online for the free card then you should get downgraded. I’ve not heard of anyone trying that route and being refused.

Called today offered £50 for £15k spend. Refused and asked to downgrade and was told they were unable to do it today I have to call on the renewal date.
I usually spend around £30k a year on the card.

I got the same today, my first annual fee is due next month so I declined the offer and will ask again in a week or two as I’ve just increased my credit limit. My annual spend is around £30,000.

Well that didn’t work, same offer. Decided to downgrade to Blue, I might try in a month to see if there is any “incentive” to upgrade back to black.
After holding the BAPP card for 6 years, and paying more than £1000 in membership fees, I’m closing my account. But player two has just taken the card after a 2 year gap. Whether they will keep it once they have received the 60000 sign up bonus remains to be seen. I’m finding it hard to make use of the BAPP voucher now, and we are using our Avios on Finnair and JAL.
Slightly off topic, but may be of interest to some.
I just called Brighton to cancel my BAPP, and transfer some of my credit limit from my BAPP to my ARCC. They couldn’t do it, and couldn’t say why not. They suggested it could be something to do with my credit record. They were however happy to downgrade me from the BAPP to the free BA card, with all account details (and credit limit) staying the same.
(My limits are £10300 on my BAPP and £4500 on the ARCC, and I wanted to transfer £5500 from the BAPP to the ARCC. £4500 just isn’t enough for my primary credit card. I probably need to cull some of my cards, or ask for the credit limits to be reduced on cards that I rarely use. I’ve got 9 credit cards with a total credit limit of £63k.

Total unsecured credit of £63k seems a lot unless you are regularly using say one third of that.
Same, offered £50 😢 Must be the same script as the same wrong date was given.

I thought once the 2-4-1 voucher was in your BAEC account it couldn’t be taken back.
Do you still have it?
Sorry just noticed 2 x 2-4-1s!
Similar trend as above, no offers today,.just option to down grade, which I took took to avoid the fee. Have Amex platinum and found it difficult to work the existing 2-4-1 voucher I have around our family working patterns, so not seeing the benefit without a good retention
My fee hit last week.
Spent 30k last year due to house renovation but unlikely to hit the 15k this year.
Said as much to agent and that I’d like to cancel. They offered £50 statement credit for 15K spend in 6 months – which clearly doesn’t make sense as I’d said I wouldn’t hit £15k at all.
I declined and downgraded the card (and will probably cancel soon)
Have had an unsolicited but welcome 10k bonus today into BAEC alongside the normal monthly Avios transfer. Any ideas why!?
Just offered 10k Avios for £5k spend in 6 months. This was just after the annual fee renewal.
Offered £50 for £15,000 spend so I downgraded to blue
Annual spend around 30k
