Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Dining 20% offer – very delayed

  • 108 posts

    Hi All!
I made a transaction at one of the participating restaurants on 5th Dec and have been awaiting the statement credit since then. Have followed up with CC multiple times but to no avail.
Is this level of delay in posting statement credit normal/ common? For me it’s always been fairly quick in the past, including at the same restaurant.
Is there anything I can do to get this through? CC say they have ‘escalated’ it, but that’s not helping either.
It was a big-ish spend this time (~£1200) hence don’t want to leave anything to chance.

Post COVID these now usually take much longer. They will usually send the usual copy paste answer and do nothing if has been less than 60 days but as you have just passed this I would ask for an investigation

It’s not really related to covid, save the coincidental timing. The issue is that Amex is using very outdated/outmoded systems to track offers when merchants have moved to more modern and flexible payments systems that often aren’t compatible with Amex offer tracking. It’s a totally different process to offers by Visa & Mastercard.

Amex likes its system because it enables the firm to offer very generous offers by targeting them more precisely to customers and merchants thereby having some additional appeal to the merchants and saving cost to both parties. The problem of Amex’s antiquated systems is compounded by the number of people who attempt to lie about offers so Amex has stopped fixing missing credits in the way they used to until quite recently. It’s something of a vicious circle.

My last 2 uses of this offer have both posted within a day of the purchase appearing on my statement.

Bao Marylebone — dined Friday last week, credit cleared on the day the charge cleared, which IIRC was the following Monday.

As previous advised do not use the table QR code

I’m chasing a credit from early December too. I provided:
    – booking confirmation and email requesting post-dining feedback to show I actually dined in person
    – photo of credit card receipt
    – screenshot of restaurant on the offer page

After regular customer service missed three dates they gave me for resolution, I instigated a complaint last week so hopefully that will get things moving.

It’s a really poor show. Most offers do work BUT when they don’t it’s a shambles.

Things seem to have improved. Some transactions in early January didn’t track and still haven’t. More recent ones have all tracked within 48 hours.

My dine local/abroad cash back triggered almost immediately, but the 20% thing has been really hit and miss. Had to wait almost 6 weeks for the back office team to sort Gaucho, when I initially called they tried to claim it wasn’t part of the scheme despite all the restaurants being listed on their webiste!

I’ve been waiting for a 20% credit from a gaucho visit in November. Continually fobbed off by customer services

We visited Cocotte Richmond and credit was made within 48 hours of dining.

I used the 20% dining cashback offer today.

We had lunch at Hawksmoor Seven Dials, received an email saying I’d used the offer before we left the restaurant! Will see how long it takes to show on the app / statement.

Finally got my cash back from 5 December, escalated on 4 Jan at the weekend. Haven’t heard anything back on my complaint made at the start of Feb though.

I did get the £100 UK dining credit plus two 20% cash backs on the most recent dining offer very promptly so hopefully just a glitch in the matrix at the end of last year. Will still raise it on the annual retention “discussion” though.

I too got the cashback late last week. Fianlly, after almost 3 months. It does look like there was some glitch during early December.
