Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Offers at IHG, Marriott & Hilton Properties

  • 25 posts

I am in the middle of cooking-up an itinerary for a UK road trip. I am planning to use various Amex Offers at IHG, Marriott & Hilton properties. However, I don’t want to mess up anything which may result in not triggering the offer. Therefore, I want to double check my understanding below, which has been curated based on reading the comments here over the years.

Can someone confirm that Amex offer triggers okay on prepaid bookings at these properties:
    1. IHG: Yes for prepaid bookings
    2. Marriott: Yes for prepaid bookings
    3. Hilton: Yes for prepaid bookings (except US & Canada)

    Thanks in advance.

2 & 3 have always worked for me, but IHG properties tend not to take payment until shortly before the stay so you may have to negotiate this with the hotels. Even then, they may send you an email form to fill in which feels a bit dodgy and isn’t guaranteed to trigger the offer.

I love a UK road trip – tell us more about it!

Thanks @NorthernLass. I am heading towards York, Windermere, Highlands, Isle of Skye, Edinburgh & Newcastle.
    Cheers.

That sounds like a nice round-trip. Sadly (or not, some might say), there are few chain hotels in the Lakes, especially since Mr & Mrs left IHG.

If you’re flexible about Newcastle, the Indigo Durham is a beautiful property and much the nicest IHG hotel in the area.

Yes, I am aware there is a dearth of chain properties in the Lakes. I am planning to do a B&B there.
Thanks for the tip on Indigo Durham. Will check them out. Cheers.

It does not always work for Hilton. At least it didn’t trigger for my Hilton T5 booking.

Hilton worked when I booked prepaid last month.

I’ve never had it not work at any Hilton, and the majority of IHG hotels in the UK have charged me within a few days of booking (>80%)
