OK, I’m trying to book an Aeromexico flight from MEX – LAX on 18th Nov. There does appear to be availability, and I’m under the impression that I can do it with VS points. What I’m struggling with is how to actually do that and how I figure the cost in miles and taxes to see if it is a saving over a cash booking. The VS website isn’t showing any availability at all, and I’d like to have an idea of the costs before I call them.
If anyone can advise I’d really appreciate it. I’ve spent a few hrs seemingly going in circles. Thanks
If you search on the Virgin web site and select show price in points it will return all available flights for you. Economy is priced at 18500 miles + $92 per person but there’s no availability showing with Virgin on 18th Nov (19th is ok with Delta). You might be better off calling them if you are specifically after Aeromexico.
I’ve booked AM flight with VS points, via VFC; I would think you might be leaving it a bit late for a specific date though, if you’re travelling in 4 weeks?
I’ve looked at DL redemptions as well, and they seem poor value due to the high departure taxes when starting outside the US.
I know this doesn’t help you, but I’ve booked some AM redemptions through KLM with Flying Blue points recently and was impressed with the efficiency and ease. Very reasonable way to move between MEX, CUN and OAX.
Thanks all of you for the feedback. ( I have a backup flight booked on the 19th, but was really hoping to get one on the 18th – Not the end of the world if I can’t though)
Yeah I can see the Delta ones, I just can’t see any Aereomexico ones at all, even for random dates in the future. Was wondering if there was some availability issues with the website.
@MF176 – Thanks – I hadn’t though about Flying Blue.. I’ll see what I can find. Thanks all of you for the feedback. ( I have a backup flight booked on the 19th, but was really hoping to get one on the 18th – Not the end of the world if I can’t though)

@MF176 – Thanks – I hadn’t though about Flying Blue.. I’ll see what I can find. The ‘no availability at all’ when booking through VS has been happening recently on other partner airlines too, particularly KL and AF. Some routes – particularly US and Asian – started to show before others like those for African and intra European destinations.

@VickyTM I’m sure you are aware there’s a big difference between the 787 and 737 Max 8 on AM with the 787 having flatbeds. I’ve being flying MEX-JFK and this has been my choice every time@kevin72 – Ah ok…. so possibly just VS being tricky then.
@rosswill – yeah unfortunately I’m very restricted as to what time I can fly due to work stuff not finishing till late…. So it’s limiting my options unfortunately. Sometimes we just have to fly with whom will get you where you want to be at the right time as opposed to a preferred choice. But I appreciate the sentiment 🙂Sometimes we just have to fly with whom will get you where you want to be at the right time as opposed to a preferred choice
Absolutely right, and stepping back this was actually the reason I found myself with AM tickets in the first place due to their late evening direct service from London.
I’ve been trying to do the same myself over the last few weeks, but the best I could find was some discussion on Reddit that said ‘there is no availability through Virgin, it’s all disappeared’. I ended up paying cash last weekend for a Mexico City-San Jose (Costa Rica) flight next August (OTT I felt, but needed that particular flight).
