Ready to hear about the first ever way to earn Tier Points without stepping foot on the plane? You can now accrue them (and collect Avios) when you contribute towards Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), making it easier to be rewarded without having to travel at all

We know how important Tier Points are to you as an Executive Club Member. Which is why we’re introducing a new way to earn them – and collect Avios at the same time.

Any contribution you make to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) until 31 March 2025 will reap Tier Points and Avios. It’s an effortless earner that removes the need for travel – and could be the well-timed boost you need to reach that next Executive Club Tier.

What’s more, when you contribute to SAF through our dedicated online tool, you can choose to pay for some, or all your contribution, using Avios.

To break it down, a contribution of £100 or 12,500 Avios will garner ten Tier Points and 1,000 Avios. The maximum amount you can earn through your contribution is 50 Tier Points.

If you think it’s a good way to help save the planet fair enough, but you can easily get 160TP for less than £500 by flying, so ‘cheap’ tier points it isn’t.

Shocking price compared to what FlyingBlue have previously offered IIRC (back in 2019)

    So 10 TPs for £100 or 12,500 avio (= .8 p/avios)

Could be handy for those that need a very small number to top up their TPs instead of flying. Yes this may not be the most economical way of getting TPs but would work for some people.

Problem is though I couldn’t see a way to actually just do this!

Still offered now at a rate of around GBP 8.25 per XP depending on the route, which is around the equivalent of 5 BA TP’s if already at Flying Blue Platinum level. If starting from scratch in Flying Blue the equivalent rate of BA TP’s is 2.586. I’d need to check if long haul is the same or a higher cost.

i was very nearly in the position to need to do this, having believed i would be on 1495TP after my trips for my membership year. Thankfully I got a ‘bonus’ double TP thanks to my rental car becoming 5 days due to me flying back later on the Monday, than I arrived on the Thursday

Nope, neither could I. As I will need 20 tier points to retain Silver, Avios rich and no real room for anymore travel currently, it could be a convenient option.

Can’t see how to get this to work. Ten tier points would suit me nicely. It asks you to put in a journey, so entered LHR- ORD return and it only wanted to charge around £11 and it doesn’t tell you how many tier points you will get. Must be missing something.

Maybe @Rob will find out the details in due course.
